The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I'm totally fine with a Black Superman whether it's Clark Kent or Calvin Ellis.

Whoever it is, I'd want a younger actor i.e. in their 20s as opposed to their 30s, so for me, it's a no to John David Washington as Superman.

However, after seeing Malcom and Marie, I think JDW would make an excellent Lex Luthor . He can play arrogant, manic, and manipulative at the same time.

The only thing is if they use Calvin Ellis as Superman they should start work on a solo comic series dealing with his origins and everything else. I also think they should change him from being the president or leave it out with how sensitive politics are over here right now.

Great news—I wonder if we get Michael B. Jordan as Supes? He’d actually be a great pick and really help WB differentiate this from past iterations.

MBJ is just so charismatic and earnest—I think he’s really give a great Superman AND Clark.

Look no offence but making Superman black would be an epic failure. This isn't a me hating the idea of a black Superman. The fact is Superman is traditionally white. This is what the general public knows. They don't know there is a version of Superman that is black. If WB makes him black the film will tank completely.

Maybe if you find some one like MBJ and introduce him in the Flash as cameo Superman as part of the multiverse. Then maybe they could do a black Superman film and it might have very slim microscopic chance of doing okay.

Last but not least how the hell do you guys thing there gone pull off a black Superman if they can't even pull off a good white Superman. No offence but WB has done really crappy job with DC universe.

It doesn't matter cause I don't think WB will do it. Even they can't be that stupid.

I'd be open to see a black actor playing Superman but I don't see Michael B Jordan as the right fit.

Because Calvin Ellis is a blank slate. Calvin only has a few appearance in the comics so you can really do anything with him. However as I said before DC should be giving him his own solo comic before the movie.

I think I’d prefer Clark Kent over Calvin Ellis, even if they cast a person of color in the role—but that’s also me not knowing anything about Ellis outside of some artwork / crossover appearances.

The Hype is kinda anti anything related to Snyder, but if we get Calvin Ellis as the main Supes I hope Cavill's Supes is still there on another universe (main DCEU) and somehow brought through mulitverse shenanigans for a cameo or minor role. It wouldn't bother me thoughh if this is just a solo.

I don’t think this movie means Cavill won't be Superman ever again. But remember rumors that he would maybe be Superman guest starring in other movies? That may very well happen. DC is all in on the multiverse. This series may end up like Reeves' The Batman and be a stand alone series, while Cavill keeps popping up in Shazam or Black Adam or whatever.

Don't know why some are talking about possible casting choices when we already got a Black Superman set up.

If they do use Calvin Ellis I would say bring Gran Morrison in for support since he created him

This is pretty much where's I'm at as well.

They're not making a Superman man where he's not Clark Kent.

Yeah, this is my thought too. Calvin Ellis hasn’t really caught on—can’t imagine WB rolling the dice on a Superman reboot and not doing Clark Kent. But stranger things have happened...

First of all YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! Finally, the news I've been waiting for since 2013.
Hopefully, this is Clark Kent Superman or this news will take a major dive for me. My preference is for Superman to remain to look caucasian, but I don't mind a black Superman so long it's Clark Kent.

Go for it.

Zero reason Superman cannot be black... although if they go with him being Clark Kent, they’ll have to deal with growing up a young black man in rural America... which, come to think of it, would be bloody good.

All those people who whine about Superman being a boring character? Making him black, and having to deal with prejudice as Clark, and the power of a god as Kal to do something about it or not... absolutely fascinating character work right there.
