Superman Returns truly was the first real legacy sequel. Back then we were shocked that they were sequelizing a thirty year old film, now it's completely commonplace.

The movie is a mixed bag but I'll always have soft spot for it. Routh definitely had the makings of a great Superman but was wasted. I'm glad he got his redemption in Crisis.
It isn't commonplace to have a legacy sequel where we recast the main character because they're no longer around. Prequels with younger versions....yeah.

It would appear that corporations already established in the DCU are monetizing/bankrolling heroes

And then here comes ol big blue who is bigger and better than them all, and he’s as mom and pop as it gets. I like it.
Mom and pop from Krypton.

Yeah those suits are definitely made by Mr. Terrific

I'm curious how this will be portrayed on screen.

I sent these photos to a friend of mine. He borders between casual and more hardcore fans like us. His reaction was that he felt like it was starting to look like a joke.

I hope Gunn carefully crafts how these characters are presented. I appreciate leaning into the more fantastical, comic book look feel of the movie, but you do not want to risk coming across too cheesy or silly looking.

Ya just seems like they're team uniforms, Either JLI or The Terrifics, I don't mind as long they still have specific powers, which obviously they will.

I think the imagery of the Bowl cut and the Ring work enough for Guy. And the Mace and wings, and helmet are enough for Hawkgirl. I would have liked a bit closer to to comics, but I don't think the suits themselves will be ugly.

Introducing Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, playing Moe Howard. Yes, I know the hair is accurate, but I'm still going to make an easy Three Stooges joke.

We got jackets's all over the costuming in this movie.

Ok so they got Guy Gardner wearing essentially the same LordTech getup as Mr. Terrific, interesting

Since it’s been mentioned that this Superman exists in a world where other superheroes exist and are already established, knowing how James Gunn like to throw in a little bit of real life commentary and meta-ness into his films, wonder if these superheroes working for Maxwell Lord and wearing matching outfits is Gunn throwing shade at the MCU and the same-iness of pretty much all of those films from having to fit into a certain mold and image to be “sold“ to the masses and not really being able to deviate and do their own thing due to being hamstrung by corporate interests and needing to play it safe for international appeal.

And then, in comes Superman, this refreshing bright blue, red and yellow ray of light, standing out from the rest of them, just wanting to do the right thing and save people on his own terms.

Nathan Fillion looking good as Guy Gardner. I dig what they did with the costume from what I can tell!

All I can say is that anyone expecting Gunn of all people to do everything 1:1 to the comics were just setting themselves up for disappointment.

I'm not gonna lie, I am a little bummed by the matching uniforms, but it's very obvious that they're like that for a story reason.

Weren’t there also set pics of Superman merchandise in a store as Clark was walking by? So it looks like they’re trying to monetize him too, wouldn’t surprise me if that’s Luthor’s doing

Good point.

I can see Guy and maybe Terrific being for that but Kendra? It's not a very Hawk thing.

Actress Is pretty young, maybe Gunn approaches the character as kind of new, naive of the scene, so maybe she just got wrapped up in the "wrong" group.

Longshot but maybe the Hawkgirl spy thing they did in the animated show? Except instead of the Thanagarians, she's spying for Luthor?

Don't know how I feel about these costumes. They look silly here, but these are set photos. I like the idea of embracing the silliness of comic book costumes though. We'll see. Can't wait for the first teaser trailer.

Maybe it's just The Terrifics and that's just Terrifitech's logo.

Adding on to this, I could see it being near the end of the movie and Luthor is like “well if you don’t wanna play ball with me, you can’t wear my logo or that suit, I own it” and then Clark wears a suit and logo made by Ma Kent

'm not even fully buying the idea that this is supposed to be like some sort of critique and that at the end they'll stop being corporate lmao I think they'll eventually get new suits but it won't happen in this film and I don't think it'll be Superman wagging his finger around saying "being sponsored by corporations is very bad". I can see a scenario where they eventually start wearing more individualized costumes but I think they'll still be bankrolled by Maxwell Lord like in the original run.

I gotta be honest man I don't think this theory makes any sense lmao Especially since the Superman suit already looks extremely traditional it's just clearly James take on it.
