Granted, it doesn’t look great for a solo, but “Henry’s going to be back, maybe, but we don’t know where or when, and WB has no comment” means almost nothing to me.

I think the biggest takeaway from that is it means they aren’t replacing him as Superman, so no reboot ala The Batman anytime soon.

But also no Superman sequel either which sucks.

You dont sign henry cavill to return to superman and not give him a solo movie. Cameos here and there to give a rub to the young bloods is fine but this is the grand daddy of superheroes.

Super disappointing. Cavill is adequate, he's a 5/10 Superman who could maybe be a 7 with a great screenplay. Would have much rather seen a more interesting actor take over in a total reboot where Jimmy Olsen didn't get shot in the face and Luthor isn't unwatchably horrible.

He'd be fun as a supporting player in Shazam/Black Adam though! And if this gets me more Amy Adams as Lois it's an acceptable trade off.

As far as I’m concerned, the “DCEU” as it were should be considered DOA and the movies should be taken on a case by case basis.

So... Cavill as a brand new take on Superman without that messy ass continuity hanging over it, pls.

Shazam is the option that makes the most sense to me, given both the tease at the end of the first and the kinds of heroes they are. Supes getting involved in Atlantis business doesn’t make much sense to me.

I'm glad Henry still has the role. But it's disappointing that he's really only in it at the moment for cameos. I wonder if they are going to make Superman have a Iron Man/Spider-Man mentor relationship with Shazam.

Shazam makes the most sense. Their connection goes all the way back to Shazam’s debut in the 1940s. Let alone Superman already cameo-d at the end of Shazam, albeit faceless.

As for Cavill, a fun cameo could lead to interest in a new Superman film, I suppose, but that would be, what, half a decade down the line at the earliest. By then, it might be tantamount to wanting to do another Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire in 2017, years after his last solo film. It sure as heck ain't my preference, but who knows. At least it would go to someone who seems fond of the role.

Once again, WB shows they have no handle on Superman whatsoever.

Superman does not need to regulated to a supporting character or a cameo on other films. He deserves his own franchise.

I see no reason to bring Henry back if they are not planning a MOS 2. I've been in favor of them rebooting the franchise for a long time and this just makes me more disappointed than if they were doing nothing with Superman at all.

I'm sorry, Cavill had his chance but it's time to move on. He has a devoted following, but the general audience never took to him or his films. I see no point in bringing him back.

I know nothing is confirmed, but this will suck majorly if true.

One thing to keep in mind, if Cavill does come back simply for cameos or to be a supporting character in other films, that just means a solo Superman film is even further away than if they simply didn't bring Henry back.

You need time apart from the last actor when rebooting.

I hope that when Cavill's deal is sealed, that the directors that he will work with (likely Sandberg and Collet-Serra) will coax the charisma he exuded in other projects as Superman. I saw glimmers of that in MOS and in the Whedon-directed sections of JL.

I can't see Superman appearing in The Suicide Squad, let alone Aquaman 2 or The Batman.

I honestly think WB is testing the waters right now. They got interest piqued when they announced the Snyder cut of JL (with Cavill in attendance), now with the announced cameo(s).

They might get the ball rolling on MOS2 if the Snyder Cut is extremely well-received next year.

So Supes is really gonna be like our MCU Hulk, eh? Not feeling it at all.

I still think it's a mistake to continue hanging onto such a divisive iteration of the character when there's more leeway with a successful revamp (see: Tom Holland's Spidey).

The possibility this iteration will last us several more years and without any significant coverage of the lore, just comes off like an IP that's dragging its feet rather than working towards something worthwhile of the brand.
