Yeah I see your point. And I mean, that's what I always assumed we'd be getting.

I just... would be so happily surprised if they found a way to not be that predictable.
See I prefer Brainiac, as I never like Lex as the “Big Bad” of a Superman story. I prefer him as a constant presence and wildcard. And Brainiac is the most overdue comics villain ever as far as the big screen’s concerned imo. So we will be wishing for opposite things on this one I guess! ;)

I'm still of the belief that Brainiac possesses Tess and has a cyborg baby with Lex ala Titane.

I agree on Brainiac being majorly overdue and I won't seriously be upset if he appears, I'm just starting to wonder if it's possible they are saving him for something later down the line.

Also agree on Lex being a constant presence, he's an essential part of Metropolis and of the dynamic of Clark & Lois' life.

Just think it could be really cool to spend this first movie really setting all of that up, so that he is that constant presence going forward.

Do you remember when people were literally zooming in on the dark shadow around Cavill's crotch in that first official image, searching for any sign of red pixels?

Yeah, this is nothing yet 😅
Lol yup. And if venom was the refection in spidey's eye.
And the red tis burgundy debates.

I just don’t want this movie to just be setting everything up because it’s a decent chance this will be the only Supes movie we get in this universe. I need it to deliver the goods on its own. Brainiac has ALWAYS been “saved for something later” and that’s why we never get him - Because each time that happens, there never is a “something later.” I am SO freaking sick of that I can’t even tell you lol. It has literally been going on my entire life! :funny: Gunn is sooooo close to putting everything I’ve wanted to see in a Supes movie into this movie, Brainiac is basically the last missing piece. Of course, there are other things I’d love to see in sequels if we get ‘em (Warworld please!), but of the stuff I’ve basically been waiting my whole life for on the big screen (Daily Planet life/staff front and center, Clark/Lois chemistry being key, Clark with a sense of humor, Clark showing what makes him special among other heroes, comics-accurate Lex, etc), this movie seems to be just about covering it from what we know. Brainiac’s just the last thing that needs to crossed off the list for me.

I really wish we would have got a Lex origin film. No super brings.
Just Lex from childhood to multi billionaire adulthood.
Tony stark with an evil attitude film.
Seeing Lex invent things out of boredom. Cures for cancer, an engine that runs on water, etc etc.

Okay yeah I can't argue with that. You win. I'm now waving my #teambrainiac banner 😅

Just using Lex is a retread of the Donner film and Superman Returns, and to be honest, that's boring by today's standards. You need that villain for Supes to trade fisticuffs with. I think flickchick is right on there being a 3rd act villain reveal, and Brainiac makes a lot of sense for that.

You remember those kryptonian messages we had to decode to get the trailer countdown?
I loved all that build-up hype! There was a part of me that was hoping they'd do those video production diaries like we got for both SR and MoS, as those seemed great for generating hype (and I personally loved them), but then I remember, neither of those movies performed very well, so the studio now probably sees those kinds of things as a waste of money/resources. :(

Look, I wanna see Brainiac too, but I feel like a lot of you are just setting yourselves up to be disappointed carrying on like this. I’m sure it won’t be just Lex, but sometimes you have to just sit back and be patient.

They were definitely fun, but I guess social media wasn't so huge back then. I'm sure we will get a lot of BTS. I mean, at least half the cast in that photo have posted that pic to their insta already.

I think everyone here acknowledges that going back and forth between Lex and Zod as the main villain of a Superman film is pretty tiresome at this point. But I'm willing to stick with Lex for a starter film if it means almost certainly getting Brainiac in the next. As to whether we actually get another instalment, well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

My opinion is that we'll probably get a tease/sequel hook of Brainiac towards the end. Hell, maybe even a post-credit sequence. Maybe Bizarro will figure into Lex's plan in Legacy. That'd be pretty fun imo.

I mean, the fisticuffs could be traded with existing characters like The Engineer or Metamorpho (can absorb the properties of Kryptonite).

I don't think it should be all Lex, with no one to present a physical threat. I agree that'd be boring, and I'm not a Donner Supes fan at all.

I will also say, I'm very grateful Dune is arriving when it is. Since this apparently won't start shooting until the latter half of March, the first half of March was gonna be totally agonizing for me if it weren't for the beautiful distraction of Dune. :funny:

Too many of the scoopers, including somewhat credible ones, have said it's Brainiac. Gunn himself hinted at Brainiac. They included Superman: Brainiac in the recommended reading for Legacy. It's not like we're going on blind faith here. They either want us thinking its Brainiac so they can pull a switcheroo, or it's Brainiac.

I forgot about Superman: Brainiac being in the recommended reading list.

I agree it's likely he's at least mentioned in this film. It's just a question of whether it's a tease for a later movie, or a 3rd act reveal.
