So you got me thinking about those reading recommendations.

The main 4 suggested reads - Superman: Birthright, All-Star Superman, Superman: Brainiac & Superman: Ending Battle

I can kinda see aspects they might draw from within Birthright and All-Star, and I get why we may be led to assume Superman: Brainiac is being suggested because Brainiac is at least mentioned in the film.

But what about Ending Battle?

There are tonnes of villains in Ending Battle, as well as various story elements that could be drawn from. It literally could mean anything...

Any theories?
Honestly no clue, I totally forgot about that one. :funny:

Maybe the mind-controlled villains (or heroes?), or the general theme that Supes is trying to impress on everyone that revenge =/= justice? Or someone using Clark's secret identity against him? Or Manchester Black is really the real secret villain! :o I'm not a big Johns (or Kelly) fan and didn't particularly care for this story, so I've only read it the once tbh. Guess it's time for a re-read!

I’ve been to Hell…

…but the one in the Cayman Islands, not Norway lol. Still a pretty interesting place, though!

Great, now I'll never be able to watch this scene from Thor:TDW the same way again.

I just want a modern Superman that I can show people. I also want a movie that I can watch over and over.

I never revisited MOS after the first cinema viewing.

I hope this one comes across as a Superman movie, moreso than a quirky Guardians flick.

I don't feel like the inclusion of Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho and Hawkgirl (as main castmembers) into Superman's debut film is necessary. Feels like Gunn just needed his usual group of losers and misfits to tell his underdog story.

If you want to contrast Superman's ideology to another 'white knight' who wants to save the world through less virtuous means, you've got that with Lex Luthor. Almost like Matt and Fisk both wanting to 'save the city' in DD S1.

Yes, why would you want a filmmaker to tell a story in his own voice and style? The property doesn’t matter, the people making it do.

What's this about the suit reveal? I thought Gunn said we weren't seeing it any time soon, but who knows?

In any case, I'm glad this film is finally starting to take shape, from the cast assembling in Atlanta to the table reads and production starting soon.

I've also seen the Kingdom Come shield being floated around as the potential official logo.

I wouldn't mind it being the S on the suit. Since it's meant to be a family crest (The House of El), have it look foreign & otherworldly as opposed to an S in a diamond.

He said we wouldn't see it until after filming has started. And that happens next week. I don't expect the reveal right away though, but some time in March. Because they won't have the privacy of soundstages come April.

The Snyder cult used the same excuse.
It’s not an excuse, it’s how this stuff works. Snyder making the character his own was great and admirable, the movies were just bad.

The Nolan, Burton and Reeves Batman movies are their respective directors movies first and foremost. That’s the ideal model.

Nolan hired Goyer to write Begins because of his comic book fandom and knowledge of the character. Begins got great reviews because it was more faithful to the comics than the Burton and Joel Schumacher movies had been up to that point.

Richard Donner treated Superman and his mythology with respect, which is why Superman: The Movie is still one of the greatest comic book movies of all time.

"The properties don't matter, the people making them do." Wrong. Nolan earned my respect as a filmmaker because he did right by one of my favorite characters (Batman) and gave me two of the best Batman movies of all time (and a respectable effort with the third). I don't give a **** about the directors. I want good movies. I want my money and time to be respected if I am going to go to the theater to watch them. And I don't want to feel like my love of the characters is getting pissed on.

These characters have been around so long they are close to going public domain. They have massive fanbases. It makes no sense to come in and say "I am going to do what I want" without any regard for the core audience going to the theater. Only bad filmmakers do that with these IPs.

Marvel Studios achieved most of its success when they were faithful to the heart and the spirit of their characters (Iron Man, Captain America First Avenger, Black Panther, The Avengers movies, etc). Taking your audience for granted is the best way to lose them. Marvel has been finding that out the hard way recently. The DCEU died because it didn't get what its core audience wanted from those movies and those characters.

I don’t believe “respecting the IP” and “doing your own thing” is an either/or situation. Snyder’s problem - besides being a generally poor storyteller - wasn’t that he did his own thing, it was that he looked down on the character to begin with. He didn’t understand his appeal (or the appeal of “traditional superheroes” in general) and has admitted as much. That’s just a very bad place to start, when you’re given the keys to a character that already means a lot to several generations of fans. I’m all for filmmakers putting their own spin on things, but when they’re working with characters that don’t belong to them, they have to remember that these characters do already belong to the hearts and minds of millions, so just…don’t s*** all over that.

The creators of My Adventures with Superman ALSO did their own thing with Superman, and they managed to create pure magic that was able to win over skeptical older fans and make new younger fans at the same time. It’s entirely possible to both take a unique creative approach AND respect the IP, and frankly, it’s necessary for a character to be able to evolve and endure as long as Superman has.

These IPs are why I've been coming to this forum for over 20 years. This is called the SUPERHERO Hype for a reason.

The Snyder cult used the same excuse.
Getting real tired of the usage of the term "cult", because I really don't think it's just being directed at the more extreme parts of that fanbase anymore. But I guess the name calling is somehow ok when it comes from people who hate those movies.

A certain Film comes to my mind when discussing a director doing his own thing and crapping on the IP's fan base and its long history of film(s) and comics, Godzilla 98.
That's what not to do.

What you DO make, is Godzilla minus one.

Or (much) better yet, Shin Godzilla :o

Because changing up a Z-list character is definitely the same as having Batman impregnate Lois Lane.

Get over it, seriously, you'e probably 40 years old, and I don't get why it's so hard for some people to understand that Snyder movies were hard alternate universe stories just like Batman: White Knight, it's done and acting like a kid about it having trauma over movie is seriously weird, especially after what? 8 years? If we're talking about BvS.

I'm just pointing out, that it's not like Snyder is the only one changing characters or focusing on other parts of their personality, Gunn made from many serious characters straight up clowns like Drax, Vigilante, Mantis and Adam Warlock, they aren't popular like Superman, but many people cared about them and he didn't, he just put his spin on them and now of course he won't do that because Superman is too big, but he did something like that and that's a fact.

If someone have a right to whine again about Snyder even if the topic isn't about him, I can't write about how pointless this is, especially that this discussion was done to death. Let it go. You don't have to put a poster and whine about Superman and Lois not touching, this is hard nerd level of whining as if you all were taking a pleasure in finding any little thing to hate about.

According to a website called Comicbookclublive, the most recent issue of Production Weekly has filming starting March 18 and ending August 2. It's possible to have pre-shooting earlier. Guardians 3 filmed Rocket's flashbacks during pre-shoots to get a head start with the VFX. MOS filmed a stunt sequence involving the school bus crashing over the bridge before the main actors arrived a week later.

Always weird to see new users coming in fist swinging.

Weird is to see people *****ing about 8 years old movie, if someone write to me with passive-agressive tone I won't pretend I don't see it, but ok, nevermind, I'm leaving, short story.
