The constant back and forth from Gotham to Metropolis in BvS is downright confusing because they make no effort to differentiate them, it's impossible to tell where a scene is set.

Nah it’s easy to tell. Gotham is the one that’s dark and rainy with Batman and Metropolis is the one that’s dark and rainy with Superman.

See, and I never thought Reeve and Kidder had much chemistry at all. :funny: To me Cain/Hatcher had the best live-action Lois and Clark chemistry to date, followed by Hoechlin/Tulloch. And as much as I dislike Smallville in general, I'd still probably put Welling/Durance third. Despite Welling typically being a block of wood, she kind of brought him to life a bit.
Crazy talk. They're the CBM couple! One of the many reasons, IMO, '78 is still the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to superhero movies. Not the best ever (although I think its as good a choice as any) but still such a key, foundational movie that a good half of CBMs just feel like worse remakes of it.

Hoechlin/Tulloch are pretty rad though. I need to see more Cain/Hatcher, but I've never seen any Lois & Clark and it feels a little late to hop on that train.

I can't wait for that 1st OFFICIAL picture of David Corenswet as Superman.

The official suit reveal has always been my favorite part of following these CBM projects, starting with Batman Begins, then TDK, Superman Returns & even MOS.

What are YOU hoping for?

Be funny if Gunn teased everyone and didn't show the trunks or no trunks area :beaming:

It's never too late!

Since the early days of DC Comics, both Metropolis and Gotham City were presumed to be based on/inspired by NYC. Indeed, “Gotham” is one of NYC’s many nicknames. And “Metropolis” typically refers to the biggest, most important city in a region or country — a clear allusion to NYC.

But, fictionally speaking, Metropolis and Gotham were obviously not the same megacity. So by fanciful geography, they were each separately located “somewhere” on the US northeast coast. (Whether NYC also exists within the fictional geography seems to depend on the story/continuity.)

In terms of distance between the two, several iterations (long predating BvS) depict Metropolis and Gotham as “twin cities” separated by a modest body of water. According to some references, this resembled the Narrows between Staten Island and Brooklyn. According to others, it was Delaware Bay (which would situate Metropolis in Delaware and Gotham in New Jersey).

With respect to BvS in particular, it’s pretty clear that this “twin cities” concept was being employed. So it was of little practical/plot relevance where, specifically, various scenes were taking place. It was all within the same “megalopolis.” And most of the time, the location was obvious— be it Metropolis proper, Gotham proper or somewhere in between (e.g., Stryker’s Island).

Nah, you don’t. Hatcher is good but the only thing worse than Cain as a human being is his “acting.”

I have no idea how Gunn will do Metropolis, but I'm really hoping it's a grand city with lots of real AND fictional buildings.
It should have some real buildings sprinkled in from around the world. Some of the more famous ones.
It needs to feel like a brand new, REALLY HUGE city, one that we've never seen before.

I'd like to see it be bigger than Tokyo and New York, and very clean and futuristic looking.

Yeah, I would take some cues from cities like Singapore that look very futuristic in certain spots. I really want to see Gunn lean into how fantastical these cities can be; it’s one of the advantages of having a fictional city rather than a real one. As much as I love Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Gotham mostly just looks like Chicago (with New York sprinkled in for TDKR). I really liked what Reeves did with The Batman by comparison; that was the first time since Batman ‘89 where I felt like we got back to the gothic nightmare that Gotham should be.

Eh, to each his own. I felt he did a great job in the role. Never saw any problem with his acting, he absolutely sold it to me just as much as Teri.

It sucks that Dean's real life personality is what it is. I wish it didnt cast such a huge shadow over a show I love/d so much.

If the Engineer is the main villain along with Lex, color me disappointed. I’m still hyped but that is a bad start. Hopefully Brainiac is involved but I’m not particularly hopeful for that. The Authority is something I have no interest in seeing when we haven’t even had a proper JL film first. Plus The Boys already exists as a much more interesting and better take on “the Anti Justice League”.

Eh I never read Stormwatch or The Authority but from what I've gathered they're nowhere near as bad as The Boys.

Also, any Superman film with Lex as a villain isn't technically doing anything wrong, pairing any number of villainous or monstrous other characters with him is also nothing new. I don't think it's a bad start even if I'm also not too excited on paper

They’re not completely alike but they both represent a twisted version of the Justice League. And the Boys is simply more interesting IMO. I have zero interest in The Authority movie unless they fill it with a bunch of mainline DC characters

It’s just a bummer if the Engineer is the main villain. I have no interest in that character whatsoever. I get that they fit with the story Gunn wants to tell but I wish it was Brainiac and Authority had no role in his DCU. I’d excise them completely from the slate because I think they suck

The Authority is way better than The Boys...I mean some of the best writers around wrote for that comic and it tackled the questions of the superheroism way better than The Boys...which was just a misogynistic fever dream. I remember when that comic came out it friggin sucked and I was glad DC/Vertigo dropped it.

Yeah well, I watched the show for a while back in the 90s and I thought he as bland and wooden. And that was long before he came out as a raging bigot. Just my thoughts though.

My best guess is Lex will be the main villain, but he will have some muscle villain to take on Superman. Metallo? Parasite? Pick your poison.

I also think at some point Lex will call out to the stars for help in taking out Superman, and he will be answered.

Bautista would make a great Parasite. Not sure if he would want to do it though.

Why does the order matter? I am concerned about The Authority’s involvement for reasons I’ve already discussed but who cares about there being a proper JL film before The Authority?

Also The Boys and The Authority are only alike in extremely superficial ways. If an Authority movie feels like The Boys, you’ve made a bad Authority movie.

The Boys and The Authority are both stupid. I’d rather the resources for both of those go to something I’d actually like to see. They’re both anti Justice League teams, and I’d much rather have a good Justice League movie than The Boys or The Authority.

I’d rather they make whatever they want to make and feel inspired to make. I suspect an Authority movie will be bad edge lord stuff but it’s part of what makes Gunn’s DCU slate feel unique and not a fan pleasing checklist.

I thought that I was the only one who thought Reeve and Kidder lacked chemistry.

And I always liked Durance‘s take on Lois, even if I wasn’t always liking the finished product. I thought that she did the Kidder take on Lois better than Kidder did (if that makes any sense.)
I'm with you guys as well about Reeve and Kidder. I just wasn't feeling it. Cain and Hatcher are definitely for my taste the best live action Clark and Lois chemistry, especially at the Daily Planet. I have never felt like any of the films have ever gotten Clark and Lois at the Daily Planet remotely right.

As this is supposed to be a younger Lois and Clark, we desperately need that competitive buddy comedy dynamic as they investigate the main plot together, overlaid with a will they or won't they sexual tension. Early Lois and Clark should almost have a "**** or fight" dynamic. :funny:
