Aw. I actually would prefer it if they explored themes like this in the films. I doubt Gunn would do something so heavy as Lois having cancer or even her miscarriage. I just think it humanizes these characters, but of course it has to be earned and not done for shock factor. I love how much love Clark shows her and how devastated he was to hear her confession and how she was afraid he would just look at her all he would see was her sickness.

He already explored hardcore animal cruelty on Guardians so I don't think he'd hesitate exploring something like that.

Yeah I don't disagree, I also like plenty of things that humanize characters. I loved Lois' miscarriage plot too, think that worked well. But it wasn't an entire season of relentless walking through the medical process of miscarriage. It was a reflection about it through therapy, in relation to a present day issue.

Bitsie & Tyler were phenomenol... but that also made the experience even more painful in a way. To be both adoring their performances and how their loving relationship was portrayed... and also wishing every episode it would be over soon, because it was just too much.

I know a lot of people enjoyed it, and I've managed a rewatch, but it's still bitter sweet for me. Looking forward to S4 shifting away from that hopefully!

I understand not wanting it all the time, but to me, there is a reason why Jonathan’s death in S:TM is one of the most important scenes in any Superman film, (whereas by contrast, Jonathan’s death in MoS is one of the dumbest.)
In S:TM, Clark has to deal with his inability to save someone whom he loves. It’s the pivotal moment where he is not omnipotent. And to me, the cancer storyline was that scene amped up to an 11 because it is his wife and she is still in prime of her life.

I want that kind of weight in a Superman story.

All I want from this new Superman film is some of that innocence and charm back. I think the superhero genre is in desperate need of something more pure, less contrived, post MCU back-to-basics approach. Most superhero movies in the last few years haven't been about saving people, they get too up their own a** with multiverses and mythology and forgot why they are superheroes in the first place. I miss the days of Iron Man going to Afghanistan, Spider-Man stopping a moving train or Superman saving a helicopter... you know what I mean? I think Superman is the perfect character to have some of that back.

Damn, I just checked out that theater David's appearing at tomorrow out of curiosity, and the auditorium they've got that movie playing in is TINY. Of course it's sold out, but still - those 36 audience members better deliver!

Honestly no clue, I totally forgot about that one.

Maybe the mind-controlled villains (or heroes?), or the general theme that Supes is trying to impress on everyone that revenge =/= justice? Or someone using Clark's secret identity against him? Or Manchester Black is really the real secret villain! I'm not a big Johns (or Kelly) fan and didn't particularly care for this story, so I've only read it the once tbh. Guess it's time for a re-read!

Ah the legendary Tom Grummet, honestly one of my favorite Superman artists!
If any of you want to see more of this man's work of art I suggest Action comics Annual #3 by Roger Stern, an imaginary story that also happens to be canon where Superman becomes the president of the US of A and changes the world through policy.

What were your thoughts in comparison to Jon Cryer?

I wasn't a big fan of Cryer either. Too much of an over the top characture of a villain, just didn't find him threatening most of the time.

TBF, I am curious to see if they can turn S&L's Lex around in S4 if they show him back at Luthorcorp.

The show is pretty good at randomly changing course, and in this case, I'm gunning for it
