I wasn't a big fan of Cryer either. Too much of an over the top characture of a villain, just didn't find him threatening most of the time.

TBF, I am curious to see if they can turn S&L's Lex around in S4 if they show him back at Luthorcorp.

The show is pretty good at randomly changing course, and in this case, I'm gunning for it 😅
Just out of curiosity, did you watch Cryer in S4 of Supergirl, or just the crossovers? Only asking because I actually liked him in the former, but not those crossovers. It was like he was asked to play 2 different versions to me. And then when he returned to Supergirl in later seasons, they had him doing the sillier version from the crossovers, which was annoying.

It’s interesting because Luthor actually is relatively consistently a character with a comedic element. He’s pretty dead serious in a lot of post John Byrne stuff but even that’s not entirely consistent and people point to DCAU Lex as perfection who actually is still pretty funny in his own way.

A comedic element was not my problem with the portrayal. I agree there should always be a humor element to Lex, but it should be a kind of dark/mean humor imo. And shouldn’t remove his menace. Cryer’s Lex had that when he felt like an actual threat. And then they removed the menace for the crossovers and beyond, and he became the joke imo.

I have never seen Cryer's Lex at all so that was a broader observation on my part!

How is Lex on Superman & Lois? I need to actually properly watch that show someday.

Jury’s still out tbh. He just showed up in the last two eps of this past season, fresh out of prison, looking like he belongs in a biker gang. Plenty of menace but no humor and a bit thuggish so far. Waiting to see some displays of intelligence/cleverness that I primarily associate with the character. There’s potential but he doesn’t really feel like Lex Luthor to me yet.

I've seen all of Supergirl & the crossovers. Though granted it's been a long time and my memory isn't the best 😅 I agree, from what I remember, it got worse. Though I didn't love the take on Lex from the moment he arrived.
