Those are possibilities, but it raises the question of "Why?". If there is no need to release a reveal until partway through production, why release a test photo from before the suit is finalized and when your lead is still in the process of dying his hair? When you could release a later photo of the final suit and styling looking more flattering?

Convenience is my guess. Maybe they already did the photo shoot and didn’t want to spend a few hours doing it again with the updated costume. I’ve made similar decisions while working when it wasn’t critical to have the most up-to-date data.

Cavills hair was different from the first released image let's not forget. Things can change. We don't know the true timeline.

Okay, I love all the pictures that are coming out, but I have a terrible fear:
Both Superman Returns and Man of Steel, the colors for the suit in natural light were great, even Superman Returns (and I hated that suit with a passion because of the colors)... but both directors changed the color palette with color filters, and with Superman Returns, what was originally dark red, yellow, and light blue became a cyan-green, mustard, and maroon...
and with Man of Steel, magenta red, yellow-white, and faded blue became dirty red, dirty dull blue, and you couldn't even make out the color yellow...

my biggest fear is that James Gunn is going to do some crazy thing with color filters, and the colors we see right now on the in these pictures is not what's going to be reflected in the film

The difference is this is a $200 million dollar production. They aren't going to schedule a photoshoot for before Corenswet's eyebrows are dyed. It also takes quite a bit of time to make suit alterations. They would have to change the suit moulds and then remould a new suit from scratch. They aren't going to get partway into production and then decide to change the collar design.

I had speculated that the costume might have a little retro SF flavour... but in the end, not that much? 😅
The piping continues to give me a little MCU-like feeling... BUT... as soon as I stop focusing on these details and take the thing as a whole...
Well... yeah, this may be the most classic looking live-action costume since Christopher Reeve.

I love the trunks.
I love the cape with the return of the emblem (finally!)
And I love how saturated are the colors: that yellow on the chest is finally popping like it should!
Also, personally, I really appreciate the loose-fit. It gives a very natural feel to the costume and coupled with Corenswet's solid silhouette, i find there a little Darwyn Cooke thing going on, which is very nice.

If I had to keep a little nitpicking : I'd have liked the chest emblem to be a lot bigger. Really bigger.
But frankly, the suit is now fine to me and Corenswet wear it apparently super well, which is finally what matters the most.

Really, seeing this Superman in a suit with all its trademarks, next to a Mr.Terrific who doesn't shy away either from his (very!) comic-booky look, and these retro-looking metropolis streets... it's starting to smell pretty good to me. There's a vision there, I like it!

Gunn doesn't usually mute colors all that much.

Idk. I doubt they thought the stakes were that high on dyed eyebrows. If it’s just a change to the collar, they might’ve just been able to tailor the neck.

It doesnt look terrible but I'm interested to see how much better Mister Terrific looks on the big screen with a big budget vs. on Arrow

Most likely the collar just looks different at different angles...

The eyebrows though is just you guys trying to read tea leaves  :o

If this was a fabric suit, that would be true, but it isn't. These sort of textured latex suits are cast from moulds. You can't just alter/tailor them. They don't have traditional seams.

In the set photos, the front of the collar opening is about level with the cape attachment piping. In the reveal photo the front of the collar is clearly much higher.
