Superman 2025 ends with Gunn's Superman theme and he gets a call on a hot scoop about an urban legend in a nearby city they call The Batman cue:

Thinking about the shooting the last couple days, they are really putting David through the wringer. He has shot how many different scenes back to back in just three days? Including scenes with completely different hair, makeup, and costuming as both Superman and Clark the exact same day.

Correct me if I am wrong but I feel like none of the past productions I followed had the lead shooting so much in such a compressed time period. During press tours, actors are always talking about how much waiting around there is between scenes on big movies due to the amount of set-ups, extras, etc.

Well, there is truly only one real shade of midnight blue, it is a very dark blue that almost looks black:

I am not going to lie. Every time you talk about fashion, I find myself feeling equal parts completely transfixed and simultaneously absolutely inadequate.

Your aptitude in this area is really impressive

I think all shoots in CBM films are rough once they get going. The Smallville fight in MoS was insane. They had Henry on a lot of practicle wires, sliding against the concrete and roads where they shot and all that. I remember them saying after every sequence, Henry would lift the suit at the wrist and sweat would pour out like a faucet. I give these actors ton of credit to last these types of rigouress films. Sometimes filming goes on for 18 hrs a day, nonstop. Waking up at 4am, shoot, work out, shoot again, work out, shoot again and again, work out, and retake. There's a reason they're put through meal plans and hardcore workouts to prepare.

Oh, of course. I just meant this seems to be a very different of roughness from the usual type of grueling that you see on productions like this, in particular in its pace of filming. When Man of Steel or The Dark Knight Rises were in production, the crew would be set up for a week shooting a single sequence, such as the Smallville Fight or the City Hall battle. It would be a very long, demanding day, but there would still be a lot of downtime between shots and takes due to the setup required (which would be very uncomfortable of course in the heavy, hot costumes).

Here we have David jumping from location to location, scene to scene, all in a single day. Including a complete change of wardrobe. Reminds me more of stories of guerilla filmmaking and blockbusters of a generation past like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Definitely. It seems the film is going to spend a lot of time in the streets of Metropolis as the main perimeter of the film with a lot of civilian activity. If they are going to spend a lot of time in a populated area, they need to get all the shots they possibly can, weather permitting as well. Gunn did mention Superman will be one of the longest shoots on any of his films.

Thanks, it's a fascinating area and I would be lying if I didn't say it was a perk of our profession that I very much enjoy.

Clothing and tailoring has such a wonderful history. They say a lot about cultures and are such a wonderful element of world building in genre productions Being exposed to the amazing costume and prop special features on the LOTR DVD box sets as a teen was a wonderful revelation. Highly recommend them to anyone interested in the area.

I also wonder if this expedited schedule is at all influenced by the studios not wanting to shell out for location shooting as much with green screen, the Volume, and CGI having taken over the industry.

Blockbusters of a decade ago would have lots of location shooting and they would need to get as much coverage as possible as well, but it always seemed like those location shoots would last much longer.

I’ve always hated the “framed by a clone” rumor because it sounds like the plot of a Saturday morning cartoon, or a bad spinoff comic from the 90s.

No way Gunn reintroduces the character with such a lame plot line. This Superman is still young and establishing himself, he hasn’t built up enough of a reputation for him being “framed” to have any impact anyway 😭

All these Metropolis set pics out in the sunny open, and I just realized how extra excited I am to see the classic Fortress back 🧊🧊 That's going to be a spectacular moment to see.

Are we getting the crystal again?

David as Clark looks amazing. I like how Clark is not a young fashionista, but a Kansas farm boy. Reeve and Reeves dressed in a way men would have in their day, well dressed but I don't believe either were fashion mavens, but I did love the hats. Dean Cain always seem to be dressed very fashionably for a 90's yuppie, his suits were stylish, and I loved the ties at the time. Cavill, though dressed more casually, still was casually fashionable. Hoechlin is dressed as I imagine a Kansas farm boy would dress for the city, and his job, and I just really think David, though hiding his Superman, is not a fashionista, and I love how his suit hides his muscularity for the most part. Also, damn, David, even with a bad hair cut you are good looking, and adorkably appealing. I really do wish to see Lois falling for this dorky guy. I do think both actors could sell it.

We are so close to perfection

Now does that suit look to loose. The best looking live action Supes.
Do I personally have gripes with the suit? Yes, I don't like all of the lines (especially around the shoulders), would prefer a shorter cape, and all things being equal I would prefer a more traditional symbol and neckline/cape attachment.

However, this sort of manips are pure fantasy and there is no guarantee that they would turn out like you actually want in real life. In particular, as several here have pointed out, Corenswet has a longer neck and that sort of neckline just might not have looked right on him. Similarly, the fit of the suit might have been necessary to allow him natural movement in the suit rather than forcing him to look like a stuffed sausage/posed action figure like Cavill often appeared.

The truth of the matter is that real life fabrics and materials do not always completely behave like how comic book artists draw them. I don't know how many times I have seen seen manips or fanart on the Bat-Boards to change the mouth opening on movie cowls to make them look more like the comics when the truth is those sort of mouth openings just don't work in live action. Where they are placed on the sides of the cheeks is an unstable area that moves a lot when people talk and make expressions with their mouths. They would cause an inevitable amount of weird gaping and other issues.
