If Superman's claim to importance is whether or not he's first, then this guy must really suck and be a boring character.

In the Justice League animated series, Superman was widely regarded as the greatest superhero of them all, even though in this universe, Batman had been crime-fighting years before Superman made his public appearance, but it wasn't the case so much in Justice League War.

I think Smallville is really the only one this century. I guess we'll see with MAWS and where that goes, but both of those were originally conceived as standalone and retrofitted to expansion.

It's been a while since I saw the later seasons, but on Smallville, didn't the JSA pre-date Clark? And Oliver was even a proper hero before Clark was.

And on Smallville, literally all the others he meets who get their origins on his show end up jumping right into the superhero game while he waffles about with "destiny" for a few more seasons.

I keep going back to the fact that I cannot think of any basis in the comics where Superman is ever the “first hero” to exist. And I certainly cannot think of any scenario where he has to be the first in order to be important.

To the contrary, one of his best aspects of the character is that he respects those who came before him. He reveres the JSA, even though he would most likely be seen as much more powerful than any of them.

Superman having to be the first hero is a really odd hill to die on.

No. I never said he should be the 'ONLY' superhero, just the 'first'.

A movie about Superman coming to the world as the first alien/superhero? That's sick, why hasn't that been done before

I feel like the first step to making a good Superman story is not being extremely defensive about the characters relevance and status. Why does he NEED to be the first other than as a boring status symbol?

First of all they are totally recognizable. Second could you at least come up with a less lazy criticism?

Like I said, I'm hoping there's an actual narrative reason for why they're dressed in those costumes.

Yeah, there's that too, the Guy Gardner suit will most likely have some CGI enhancements, as in theory, the suit is meant to be a construct of the ring.

Believe me, Guy will let everyone know how cool his ring is. Nathan will be hilarious.

I mean the helmet and mace are the only two things that make her costume Hawkgirl, so I think the film is perfectly fine in that regard.

Perhaps, but I never thought that I'd find myself having a hard time determing whether Hawkgirl's cinematic costume was worse than her television counterpart.
