The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I did it for the teaser trailer and it was good for a few weeks. Then I believe the negative YouTubers would change their titles. It’s frustrating. I have a feeling I already know the plot of Brave New World and I have really not been following it. I was hoping I could get my ticket and just watch it. YouTube won’t let that happen.
Honest question...why watch the stuff on youtube? 90% of it is clickbait nonsense from people who have no more credibility or value than you do. You are putting yourself in a position (no matter how much you curate) to find the ragebait stuff and spoilers. If you want them to stop just dont click.

I get it, we all want to be part of a community and such but youtube (and most social media) is not about that anymore. Its about monetization. They are overvalued fanboys or failed bloggers who know they can make a few bucks sitting in their basement saying off the wall nonsense that is either way too positive or extremely negative because people think they know something or they need a dopamine hit.

Its the equivalent of walking up to a guy wearing a sign that says "My face needs slapping", them slapping you and then you being upset your face hurts...and then going back to the guy and wondering why he keeps slapping you.

You don't have to go dark, just stay away from the things that make your experience less fun. If you don't want to be spoiled, stay away from the guys who love to spoil crap. If you don't want to see people nitpicking and meme-ing supposed bad cgi, stay away from the average online "commentator". I understand that seems simplistic, but in reality it is just that easy. Until you (and others obviously) do they are just going to get worse. Same with the jerks on Twitter (why even be on Twitter...that place is just bots and racists at this point) if you dont like the way they engage on movies, stop engaging them. If you hate reading it go somewhere else. Twitter and Threads needs the negative engagement to keep their numbers up that is why they forcefeed you stuff they know will get you going. Dont let them. Either mute it, block it or scroll on by.

What process?
Conversations online. We had the honeymoon phase now we are in the "OMGERD DAT SHOT LOOK TERRIBLE!1!1!" phase where people who need things to be upset about pick one or two minor things and make it sound like the film is doomed. Then they fall back on old tropes (oh the Snyder Cultists are saying this, Grace is hearing that, discourse all over is fully negative!1!1!!) because their anxieties kick in. We have turned movie discussion into sports...and this is just the "My team is dOoOMeD1!1!!!" portion of the season after they lose 2 games in a row. The coach is the wrong guy because a call he made went sideways and the star player sucks because he didn't make the big play. Then next week they win and all of a sudden everything is perfect again!

I follow Bobatalks the most now for DC content but also watch some others. I use YouTube for other things besides comic book talk so like Tra-El said the algorithm is going to always send negative pages towards me. I wish I could ignore it but it pops up on my screen when I sign in. I have deleted certain content.

I use it for stuff too...and I watch lots of comic trailer stuff. I never get any of the negative reaction stuff recommended because I never click it. I dont care what "NErdyDork12" has to say. I dont watch trailer reactions, I don't click on "insiders" and I never go to things done by groups like Collider anymore. My youtube is free and clear of the nonsense.

To each their own , I guess. I don't know how people can hold up with such an anxious way to look at movies.

I loved the flying shot, I was too busy enjoying it and being immersed to notice 'bad CGI'.

I don't know how you Superman fans have put up with the negativity from a certain group, for so long. All over Facebook, for example, each new trailer/photo/update is met with 'Laugh' emojis from that 'group' with the annoying bad-faith takes in the comments, to boot. They're pervasive, everywhere.

I'm sick of it and I've been following this film closely for only a couple months now.

I am beyond fatigued of bad-faith film takes on the internet/social media. YouTube is infested with click-bait channels who peddle made-up 'rumors' that make the current target of choice look bad, and when they turn out to be false, the spin it that their negativity caused enough backlash to change the outcome. They win either way.

The endless stream of manipulated thumbnails with some angry guy whining into a microphone with a headset in a gamer chair has ruined a lot of online film discourse, and comic book film discussions.

I went through these bad-faith takes on YouTube with the latest Indiana Jones and Batman, and that's nothing compared to stuff made about Star Wars and the MCU. It's hard not to let the negative takes on YouTube or Twitter taint the experience of these films, in a way.

Guess it's Superman's turn with a certain fanbase on top, to make it even worse.

People are so dead-set against things from the very jump.

I'm still stoked for this film.

If people don’t like the shot, that’s fine. I personally love it, and I never even thought it looked like CGI at all. If his facial expression looks a little funny, I’d say that’s normal for when you put a human being horizontal on a gimbal, simulate high speeds, and spin them around. Same reason Cavill’s face looked kinda odd in these shots:

That’s not a natural position for a human body to be in, so their facial expressions are just gonna look a little different. And frankly, there’s no way it’s gonna be that noticeable in context, because we’re gonna be way too caught up in the actual sequence to get stuck on ~why his eye looked like that for a split second~.

I love the shot because it looks so clean and tangible compared to other similar shots, and you really feel the speed like we never have before with Superman’s flight. I can already feel the Top Gun: Maverick influence Gunn talked about and that gets me so hyped. :mrk:

I wouldn't say tanked as a trilogy of films was still released, alongside Ultimate Editions of those films. Regardless of yesteryear, Superman will be judged on its own merit when it matters. Said it many times, but Gunn is a good storyteller and the final product will always do the talking regardless of the typical fan nitpicking that existed since the beginning of time itself lol.
It tanked. A segment of fans like yourself enjoyed those films, but they objectively tanked at the box office and did not remotely meet expectations.

This can be seen in how both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman had big openings weekends and then had massive drops and horrible legs. The reason why they got to a trilogy is because Warner Bros was already committed to several sequels and spin-offs as part of a connected universe and they couldn't just abandon those plans once in motion. Too much was invested.

I didn't have an issue with the shot , but if others did , so be it.

I thought the shot was okay, but to each is own .

At this point, I'm not get gonna get triggered by this, or that ,fan views about this project , especially since we still have 6 months to go.

Ultimately , all I can do is wait till July, and see the final product , and then respond to what I see.

It is annoying that we get a TV spot that was otherwise perfectly fine, but all some people want to talk about is the wonky looking eye placement of David Corenswet in the final shot.

Its obviously done in bad faith by Snyder Chuds, who were never going to like this movie to begin with.

This is going to be an exhausting marketing cycle isn't it?

It’s amazing what less than 1 second can do to a trailer to make the weird part of the fandom react. You literally would have to put the tv spot on Super slow to notice any issues with the CGI.
It’s always unpredictable which shot is going to make people complain. Watching the tv spot yesterday I thought the flying looked cool. Definitely didn’t think it was going to become a meme.

As a veteran of the Twenty Teens " Star Wars Fan Wars Debates", this ain't nothin'. .

Yeah, those arguments weren't about TV spots, but compared to the discourse over those films , this is a bright sunny day.

I'll respectfully disagree. It's not like the studio wasn't in dire themselves during Emmerich's tenure when he took over in 2016. He already had a hate ***** for Zack anyway. That dude fudged everything up even more and tanked the films that came thereafter as well. Zack ended up getting the JL he wanted released anyhow, so that's far from tanked for me and it remains a big part of the studios current history. But regardless, it has no barring now on Superman. We are here now.

It's not just the hardcore Snyder people. Really isn't. There's so many subdivisions of the Superman fanbase that is sickening. I'm apart of many Facebook groups and even the old-school Reeve fans have been harsh on Superman so far. A Rock music page put out the TV spot with all kinds of people commenting. The post had over three thousand comments and most of them were negative. The post that was at the top read "What's up with his eyes"? With the most likes and laughs at it. Social media has become a bigger cesspool of hate than it already was. It's been exhausting for awhile now.

I swear, it's like people have gone insane. You post a pic of a brownie, you'll get polarized debates on the proper and improper hue of fudge. Exhausting.
I don't know how, but it has got worse and worse. The Internet sure makes sure to out due themselves, that's for sure.

I kind of like the flying shot. I haven't watch Top Gun Maverick, but as I understand it, the flying effects were inspired by that movie. So I look forward to seeing this in IMAX.

I never really liked the way the flying was shot in Man of Steel and the consistent held hand camera/shaky cam. At the same time, I'm not sure if I'm completely onboard with this flying camera narrative. As long as it's not in every single up-close flying shot. Something formal is fine. Snyder was trying to be as realistic as possible, but whenever we had to endure through that shaky camera in the film, particularly on Krypton, I felt self-conscious that we were watching a movie, rather than feeling like I was in it, if you know what I mean. In other words, I felt conscious that there was a film crew shooting the movie on Krypton, and that took me out of the movie. The hand-held camera narrative and consisted shaking was very disorienting.

I cant tell if this is just a higher definition shot of if someone's cleaned the eyes up a bit, but it looks better here to me!

Thats definitely been cleaned up because....he looks like one of those new ugly personalized emojis that phones have nowadays

Knowing that Gunn is perpetually online, I hope he stays off social media with some of the responses to that shot. People have some pretty cold takes and it must suck to see that.
