Ehhh I think George Lucas was mainly to blame. I think he had great actors, he just is a terrible writer/director. Great idea man. But the future George does not have it anymore lol.

Sorry for sitting over here with this look of befuddlement on my face but you must understand...

I am from a planet where there is ALSO an actress named Natalie Portman. However, the one I'm thinking of is a one-note, over-exposed plain Jane who was INSTRUMENTAL in destroying a certain sci-fi film franchise that used to be inextricably bound to my childhood. Thanks in part to her, my childhood is now dead.

I know the Natalie Portman considered for a role in DKR couldn't possibly be the same person.

It's hard to act when you're interacting with green walls.

Nobody turned in a good performance in those movies. And most of them were great actors.

Portman is a good actress but I don't see her as Catwoman

Well I'm glad Clint released the info regarding Cotillard still being in contention, which I have been hearing as well.

It's just a scheduling issue with Cotillard really.

Out of this big "short" list.....I would want to see Nolan go with Weisz, Cotillard, Watts, Portman, or Knightley.

In that order. I'm hoping the two female roles are for Catwoman and Talia personally.

I also would not be surprised if one of these actress' take on a role like Julie Madison or Janice Porter, but wind up revealing themselves to be Talia toward the end of the film in a twist. :cwink:

If Talia is the female villain, then I would really want Rachel Wiesz. If Catwoman was the female villain, then I would still really want Wiesz haha but I would be okay with Natalie Portman or Keira Knightley.

Actually, I can see either Portman or Knightley playing Talia as well. Basically, for any female lead role, I'd want Weisz, Portman and Knightley no matter who they each played.

Naomi Watts would make an excellent Sarah Essen. however, i really doubt she will be in the film

Someone earlier tonight brought up the possibility of Nocturna as one of the female characters.

Not saying it's even close to likely, but it would certainly be a curveball. If, for whatever reason, Nolan didn't want to do Catwoman, Nocturna hits many of the same beats that Selina would.

Ah, 3:00 AM spit-balling. I need a life.

I don't know if regwec has the exclusive in this, but I will eat your heart.

hooray for nerd hyperbole.

Considering various factors here (acting talents, looks and definitely age- remember Bale will be 37 next year) I have to exclude:
1.Portman (age)
2.Knightley (age/talent, IMO and regwec will find that my heart is only small and black if he tries anything funny. Plus, I have to exclude her for looks. She can look beautiful sometimes, but she's way too skinny if we're talking about Catwoman)
3.Lively (age and the bonus factor of another running franchise- although that never stopped Stamos from being in Punisher and XMen. However Stamos was covered with makeup in XMen. I haven't seen her act, either.)

I give the benefit of the doubt to:
1.Phoenix. She'll be 31, but looks old enough and definitely hot, but I don't know if she can act. If she's more of a model then I dunno. Then again, Theron started out as a model and she turned out great, imo, so...
2.Perabo. Not sure about her acting skills.

The rest of them are more than welcome for any part.
My personal favs are Weisz (she's got everything) and Hathaway. Now, I know the latter is only gonna be 29, but she looks old enough to look ok with Bale (she pulled off looking ok with Carell in Get Smart, ffs), I find her gorgeous and I also think she's a fantastic actress who needs a big role to grant her more recognition and give her a chance to get more roles.
I'd be fine with either one of the rest, though (Watts and Cotillard) for any part.

I also hope it's Catwoman , I feel Nolan has a chance to really make the character really good. and different to what we have seen from previous adaptions, just like Joker.

I'm just hoping for/looking forward to finally seeing the modern Selina in live action. Pfeiffer's version was well acted and fun, but it's about time audiences get a glimpse of what Catwoman has been for the last twenty years - less villain and more anti-hero.

Last thing I want is a Catwoman that wants to kill Batman.

I think the best indication that we're going to see Catwoman in TDKR is the fact that the biggest influence on Nolan's Batman is TLH, which Catwoman was a major player in. Considering the fact that Two-Face's characterization in TDK was pretty much straight out of TLH, I'm expecting Catwoman to be the movie's wild car, just like she was in the story. She's a thief who might help Batman on one ocassion, and then side with the villain next time. As she said in BTAS, she's "The Cat who walks by herself".

I think TLH was a big influence because it's one of the few stories that focuses on the early part of Batman's career. Plus it's a good story. The story itself was villain heavy, so just because Catwoman was a major part of the story doesn't necessarily mean she'll automatically be a shoe in for the movies. I mean if we went by that logic then Holiday should have been, too.

Come to think of it, I really want to see Calender Man in a cameo role. Anyone else with me?

Yup. Ditto for the heavily mob-focused storyline, the appearance of characters with wild gimmicks of their own, and let's not forget Robin!

It won't be Lively so I'm not worried about that, but I am very worried about the notion of Hathaway being in the next film. Knightly's casting wouldn't impress me either.

Yeah, Blake Lively is Carol Ferris in Green Lantern, so I don't see her appearing in two comic-book movies within a short time of one another (unless she wanted to be the next Ryan Reynolds or something, but in female form).

Anne Hathaway isn't a bad actress. She was surprisingly decent in The Devil Wears Prada (don't ask why I've seen that film...) and nearly stole the show in Rachel Getting Married. Plus, she was really good in Brokeback Mountain opposite Jake Gyllenhaal (once a contender for Batman; she once again re-teams with him for Love and Other Drugs coming out soon) and The Joker himself, Heath Ledger. So she has some Batman connections and plus she has a great rack. :awesome:

I thought Keira Knightley was a mediocre actress until I saw her strong performances in Atonement and The Duchess. Those films convinced me she's a considerable actress with talent.

It's kind of funny and weird that both Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley are both up for roles, since they are pretty similar aesthetically speaking and Knightley even doubled for Portman as a handmaiden pretending to be Queen Amidala in The Phantom Menace. I have a feeling they're up for the same part, most likely the female villain character.

Out of that list I hope Nolan picks Rachel Weisz. She's 40, just a little older than Bale, but close enough. Easy on the eyes and a great actress. She could easily play Catwoman, Talia or any other female character Nolan has up his sleeve as far as I'm concerned.

Knightley and Hathaway are both great actresses, but they both seem way too young.

Portman, like Knightley and Anne Hathaway, is way too young. I can't say I've been a big fan of her films or her acting. I think V for Vendetta is the only movie I've seen that I liked her in. The accent helped a little. That and V for Vendetta was just a good movie anyways.

Not familiar with Blake Lively to be honest.

I wouldn't mind Naomi Watts, but only if she's 2nd on the list after Weisz.

Interestingly 2 women in that short list I had picked out for Harley Quinn (if she ever appeared on screen), Piper Perabo and Naomi Watts in the cast Harley Quinn thread.

I always thought Catwoman would be in the next one, now I'm not too sure. Catwoman AND a love interest, hmmmmm.

agreed....
these were pretty much my throught, too, when I read the list...

though, I don't have anything again Portman as an actress... I do feel she seems a bit young... but, besides that, my first throught was that she is already currently in a comic movie (Thor)... same goes for Blake with (Green Lanter)... so that kinda narrowed down the list abit for me...

over all, Watts and Weisz, were the name that really stood out... though with that said, with this only being the short list, I hope to hear of some other names as well...
