DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

We still don't know Cavill's fate yet, but it doesn't look good since they canned WW3. If they return in their roles, the movies will be a soft reboot of the Snyderverse and their portrayals will be different.

He's done. They already seem to be talking about scrapping Aquaman 3.

We'll know for sure once Gunn and Safran unveil their plans next year. But if their plans include scrapping "Superman & Lois" in addition to Cavill --- I'm going to be so ticked off.

Starting off the new regime by giving Patty and Gal the boot, as well as denying Wan and Momoa a chance for a third Aquaman -- is not a good look for fans. (I love Cavill but he's not universally loved like Gal and Momoa are.) They're leaving Reeves alone, but you don't alienate the filmmakers who turned Snyderverse brass into box office gold.

It's not a good look for WBD. And I'm seriously side eying Gunn and Safran's plans thus far.

The Flash would be the perfect transition movie to kickstart the soft reboot

Better start seething...

Almost everything will be scrapped in some way or another, even if they keep some actors. They're going for a unified universe across all mediums.

It's creatively stifling their proposal to make every tv show, video game, and movie cannon to each other. Star Wars is still dealing with the effects of attempting that and contradictions still happen anyway. If you or others don't like one version of the characters you are stuck with them everywhere too.

I think its clear that anything connected to MOS and BVS is getting wiped clean (either cancelled or not continued after whatever is filmed comes out in theaters).

I wouldn't be surprised if we get new movies and new versions of Superman, Wonder Woman, etc that are connected and Robert Pattinson's Batman is folded into it as the new DC cinematic universe Batman. Just a clean slate across the board.

You're not getting the whole picture. Common wisdom is that you don't alienate filmmakers and A-list actors by scrapping a big sequel to a popular franchise. You let them finish out things before you reboot the thing.

You'll know how I feel if Gunn and Safran cancel a show or movie franchise you're pumped about.

If they are doing a full reboot then they need to announce it upfront instead of pulling this.
Yeah, otherwise it will reduce excitement for whatever they do announce next.

THR does caveat a couple of times that Patty’s WW3 was rejected in its current state. She had pretty free rein to do what she wanted on both films. My guess is with continuity being such a driving force now, whatever she crafted for the third film just didn’t jive. Hopefully they can find a path forward together because I think Patty deserves to finish her trilogy.

One of the most interesting parts of that article is that it said they were considering making a JL2 before Gunn and Safran took over

“ And at that time, he was not incorrect. Warner Bros. was indeed developing a sequel for 2013’s Man of Steel and actively meeting with writers. Andy Muschietti, who directed Flash, even expressed interest in sitting behind the camera for something that would have brought a tone similar to the hopeful and heroic colors of the 1978 movie directed by Richard Donner, considered a benchmark in comic book movies. In fact, the current leadership team at Warner Bros Pictures — Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy — did desire one more go-around of the Snyderverse heroes, possibly even having another Justice League movie with those actors.

But that was before Gunn and Safran began formulating their new (and still in flux) plan.”

Patty went from directing the Wonder Woman franchise and a Star Wars movie to nothing.

WW84 was such a misfire. I’m glad to see a new direction

I think its highly likely - based off of WW1984 - that Jenkins' and Johns' scriptment was not good. Why should Gunn and Safran pay to make it if that's the case? Jenkins doesn't own the character.

Jason was pretty happy about some news a few weeks ago related to DC I think. Maybe he comes back as Lobo? Would be weird though
That could at least work and be a small positive. He's made for Lobo.

Lol wild.

I mean this seems to be throwing the baby out with bath water (am I using that right?). I think we could have kept Gadot, Momoa, and Cavill with better scripts/direction but I’ll just as easily take a rebooted continuity.

Gal's tweet doesn't seem like a goodbye. She filmed a Shazam and Flashpoint cameo/sequence as well. Jenkins seems out tho. I just dont trust Gunn with all of this, but I'm pretty much over the superhero genre in general, except for Batman. Eh. Mostly come on the hype now to read the other none comic flick news and chatter.

I agree and disagree.

While this is what I wanted, the DCEU/Snyderverse has time and time again proven to be full of diminishing returns. The Batman was such a breath of fresh air for DC. If that can be replicated successfully for other heroes, I think it will be better for the DC brand overall.

Feel kinda bad for bald Cavill, but tis' hilarious. What if he made that Supe announcement cause The Rock told him it was gravy to do so, but had no real power to do so?

Seems weird to throw out Momoa with the bathwater when Aquaman was one of their few 1B grossers. But maybe they look at Lost Kingdom and expect another Black Adam.

It's just crazy, the ripple effect, years after the fact, that a bad trilogy that they bet everything on can have on a studio. And how difficult it is to pull out of that ditch.
