The Election Night Thread - Part 2

Well, that's true. If Trump had lost, he and his supporters would never have cried about it.

It's almost worth having Trump be President just to watch the Clinton Cry-Babies go in complete meltdown, and to think they had and still have the nerve to knock other candidates supporters. What a complete bunch of self-righteous bigoted hypocritical trash her supporters have shown themselves to be. Trump may have his deplorables but it's become incredibly clear that Clinton has her despicables.

I prefer to see it in line with the Boston Tea Party.

Protesting a problem with your democracy because you care about you country.

Plus it sends the message that the anti-Trump crowd won't go gently into the good night.

You're failing to account for media bias and the similarities between Trump and Bernie: promising to not cut Medicare/Social Security, presenting themselves as anti-Establishment, anti-trade policies (polls show that was the determining factor for Midwest voters), and being "honest" (or selling himself as such in Trump's case).

Also the fact he was beating Trump by an average of 10.4 points during the primary while Hillary was beating him by the less than half. He was also beating every other Republican compared to Hillary.

Not to mention only 19% of Millennials voted while Bernie was hugely popular with Millennials. Not to mention the media tried to limit his voice at all costs while over 50% of the country agreed with his "revolution" policies in the first place, so who knows what the results could have been. And finally, not to mention that swing-state Democrats were asking for Bernie's help as late as August.

At the very least, I don't see how you could argue he'd do worse than Hillary.

Putin and Russia cheered upon hearing the news. N Korea did the same. China laughed and is now using it as propaganda for their people to show why democracy is a joke. The KKK is having victory parades in parts of the south.

Any of those statements make you think maybe you're on the wrong side of this argument? Your guy won though so who cares right?

Just those things make me shudder. Dark times coming my friend, for the entire world.

I had an argument tonight with my parents and a friend of theirs over this stuff, themselves very much in support of Trump. I asked them how they liked that the guy they supported would quickly become a puppet of on of the other world powers. they laughed and told me how wrong I was, and that Hilary would've had us in a war day one. I replied that not only do I doubt that, but I'd rather not see us all under the thumb of Russia, or whoever Trump decides to bow down to for whatever reason. I argued that he will not be a strong president, and one way or the other, I absolutely see everything will be done for him. That's why I believe Hilary, Bernie, and even Obama have all been quick to offer aid in the coming days, to push things in a slightly better direction.

To say the least, my parents friend called me un-American for disliking Trump and tried to tell me how wrong I was. Luckily dinner was over so I said my thanks for buying me dinner tonight and left.

Please explain.

I wanted Sanders but even though I don't care for her I voted for Clinton like the rest of my state but the way her supporters have acted and continue to act I just find myself not wanting to admit I voted for her to anyone so as not to be associated with them. This election has brought out the absolute worst in everyone and that's very sad.

Let's eliminate the traditional VP candidate & just let the loser who ran for President and didn't win be the Vice President instead. Would be interesting to see how that would work out.

The only reason North Korea "cheered" is because Trump wants to pull American troops out of South Korea. You're making it sound like Kim Jong-un sees Trump as his equal or something.

I've always said that :D

She said that she wanted a no fly zone over Syria that could spark a war with Russia.

She also said that cyberattacks by Russia would also be considered an act of war.

Everybody thinks they know what they want until it happens.

Here are some highlights from a "debate" that took place on last night's Late Late Show (the Irish version).

I understand that South Korea was one of the first countries that Trump called after Clinton conceded. It seems doubtful that he did so in order to tell them they were on their own. I suspect that, on this and many other issues, what Trump thinks or says in private is quite different to what he says in public.

Is it true what I saw in a local newspaper of today? The percentage of callers to the suicide hotline went up significantly after the terror that is election day?

Transgender suicide and support hotlines saw a near 400% jump in calls

the incoming administration is looking to strip away their rights, so any help would be welcome

Statements like these don't exactly help. In fact, it sounds like fear mongering to me. Let's wait until there's an actual proposition by President Trump to strip away the rights of transgender people. Until then, it's just baseless speculation.

Yeah, between that and what Republicans won't simply allow him to do, I fail to see how Trump becomes anything more than a figurehead for President.

If he doesn't plan to run again, the re-election cycle starts in a year and he'll basically have to let it be know so the Republicans can get a candidate to Iowa.

I have to admit. Despite the loss, there's something that feels very victorious about the media talking about Bernie having had better chances of winning.

It's not just the internet. Corporate media like CNN and MSNBC is saying the same thing. I'll be lying if I said I don't take some pleasure in this.

It was clear throughout that Clinton was a very unappealing candidate. She should never have run, and nominating her was either reckless or arrogant.

I definitely lean toward the arrogance explanation. They took the absurdity and near-comedy of Trump running at face value and didn't seem to bother investigating how or why a guy like him could turn their apple cart over. If they were smart they would've observed the massive popularity Bernie enjoyed, built on the back of social media, and they would've noticed the same kind of trajectory for Trump.

Only instead of icing Bernie out of the spotlight the media used Trump as a ratings cash cow and facilitated his rise. The media presence Trump got really feels like it was the crux of why he got elected, without the excessive focus on him he would've remained a fringe candidate that only nut jobs supported, but they normalized his participation and more and more people bought into the horse**** he was selling.
