The Flash The Flash General Discussion and Speculation Thread - - Part 11

I'm curious, is time travel still a large factor in the series moving forward?
It always will be. This is the Flash.

The difference now however, is any past that Barry travels back too will be different to any past we’ve seen before, as history has been rewritten.

Will running be a large factor in this series moving forward?

I've been rewatching Flash from the beginning as I stopped watching the series after mid season 3, and I'm curious... how does everyone rank the seasons so far? Feels like season 1 started off strong, season 2 was just as strong if not stronger. season 3 felt almost too repetitive and the overarching time travel plot (again) got old fast. I'm currently on season 4 (the cowl looks odd) and it looks like it's very hit and miss so far, The Thinker seems underutilized and the Barry/Iris stuff is really cringeworthy.

And why the heck was Iris leading the team while Barry was gone? That was laughable.. she goes from gossip columnist to team flash leader? Um, no. And there was a line in one of those episodes where she tells Kid Flash that she programmed a new training simulation... ummm, yeah right. Like YOU, a reporter, is also a programmer? Get out of here. Her stuff gets more and more cringy, and I just wish she would've been written out. I enjoyed Barry with Patty though, that was nice. Barry doesn't need to be with Iris, he's not glued to her in the comics so I don't know why the writers here are hellbent on force-feeding us this crap.

Anyway, how do you all rank The Flash seasons so far? Did it drop off in quality for you at any point like I've been seeing?
Seasons 1 and 2 were the strongest, season 3 had its moments but overall was just a mixed bag, season 4 messed up when it came to a certain thing with The Thinker and would have been better otherwise. Season 5 had its moments, but trying to make Cicada the big bad throughout the entire season was a huge mistake.

Season 6 has been a breath of fresh air so far though. The new showrunner has done a solid job so far.

Any word on who the big bad is for second half of season 6?

Sounds like
Wally’s return might be something big revolving around the Speed Force.

Crisis could (or should?) have been the perfect opportunity to recast Kid Flash, though if the writing department is lacking, I guess it doesn't matter which version of Wally West they introduce, he wont be sticking around. I hope he at least has a different suit.

Wallace is such a weak show runner. Guy has no clue how to simply write a good show. Ever since he came on as a screen writer from season 4, the worst one, the quality hasn't been improving. And now he runs the show. Wish a real fan of the comics can at least try to bring back the magic of Season 1.

First look at Sue Dearbon.

You will never have the same feeling as season 1. NO show will. A season can either be good or bad. there's no going back to season 1.

You make it sound like Eric was responsible for season 4. He came on as a writer and had to follow the orders of AJK and Todd. If you didn't like season 4, blame them. If you didn't like season 5, blame Todd. Eric has to follow up on things he had no hand in creating/writing. The show set a formula that he has to keep following.

Part of the reason I think many are nostalgic for the first season of a lot of shows is it's the origin story and you can't have that again. As humans we like the new, shiny, and different. Once the novelty wears off then it's time to nitpick and hate on a show.

Does anyone else feel like the ending used to conclude Oliver's journey in "Arrow" would have been more fitting for Barry instead, only with him reuniting with Iris inside the Speed Force? I mean prior to the actual Crisis Crossover, this show had started with a major tease that Barry would eventually disappear someday. So the idea of actually following up with that plot point for the series finale and having Iris reunite with him in the Speed Force would have been more fitting for that pair if you ask me.

I think the ending should've been Barry saving the Earth and disappearing with a montage of the legacy he left behind (ie: Kid Flash becoming The Flash, etc...) and leaving it open ended. Of course they likely wont use that and give him a very happy ending but...oh well.

I'm betting the ending will be Barry having a happy married life with Iris and starting a family with her. I think the final scene will be Barry passing the the Flash mantle to one of his children and as a result the Flash legacy will live on.

I really wish we would get some version of Wally back on the show. I really like Barry in the mentor role.

They could do that if they had a storyline where Barry was crippled for a while and had to go round in a wheelchair. Someone else would have to take over as the Flash, and Barry would have to mentor him/her a bit like how Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne did in Season 1.

Barry needs to find purpose or something to drive him. Because he seems off and I don't like that he's taking a back seat in his own show.

I hope they don't do that. This show has such a strange record on Disability/Wheelchairs. I blamed it on Kriesburg and Guggenheim, but I don't think Gustin could pull that off.

I like the way the new show runner is doing things.
Less villains of the week, and less season arcing big bads. Looks like instead we're juggling several villains with mini arcs that overlap. More drawn out mysteries. Actual police work and reporting!
Yeah, the characters actually go to work and do their jobs now.
I love that Mirror Master is being redone, and with more attention. Always been one of my favourite Rogues.
And while Barry hasn't been super prominent, he's used effectively. Showing up to stop robberies, Missing hints with Dopple-Iris.
The Elongated Man subplot is really cheesy in a way that doesn't do it for me- but it feels like an actual Elongated Man story.
Still has a bunch of dull conversations and uninteresting side characters being awkwardly shoved in front of the camera, (I don't care about Frost trying to set What's-her-name on a date. Why does anyone care)
Either way I like the new approach to tackling the villains, so we'll see how it turns out.

It would be better have a villain arc going over several episodes. It's more compelling if the threat is not bottled up after less than sixty minutes.

anybody else notice that after crisis the new intro doesn't have barry saying "I'm the fastest man alive" anymore. Not sure if they did that on purpose so that barry isn't the fastest anymore after crisis which kind of sucks....i understand the comics version and tv, but seriously barry is the only speedster who talks, connects and bonds directly with the speedforce and if the writers on the show incorporate that barry is the speedforce like in the comics, he essentially should be the most powerful or have the most potential as a speedster, I don't know how guys like reverse flash or even godspeed can match barry when barry is the one connected more purely to the speedforce....we'll have to wait and see how the writers portray other speedsters now that crisis is over.

they could bring wally back and make him be faster than barry, or bring in godspeed....with crisis it's very similar to flashpoint where you had the same characters but either different roles/personalities in most cases but things have been reset similar to how things are now after crisis...that means they could also bring back reverse flash as the next villain after they beat this mirror problem that iris is stuck in, especially since nash has been having visions of harrison wells/RF.
