The Flash The Flash General Discussion and Speculation Thread - - Part 11

I wouldn't be opposed to recasting but if they don't...I dont blame them since he's spent the last 3 years playing the character (wink wink Batwoman EPs). But I also see a scenario where after a year or so, Eric sits down with them and forgives him and welcomes him back to the show for a couple of guest spots.

I’m not opposed to them recasting, as I always kinda felt he was miscast anyway, tbh. But given the decision recently made with Batwoman, I doubt they’ll consider a recast.

I kind of wish they had saved Joel McHale for this recast instead of Starman. However it might be similar to the way they dealt with Dean Cain.

They will probably write out Ralph offscreen and come up with a excuse of him settling down with Sue or something.

I doubt Joel McHale would be available for this role anyway, tbh. I seriously doubt they’ll recast. I think Primal is right that they’ll write him off in a way that leaves the door open for him to come back after some time has passed and he’s “made amends.”

Ralph wasn't that important to the plot so I could see them do that. He was mostly used for the B storylines anyway.

I didn't know about Dean Cain at the time, so I thought it was weird that Kara suddenly didn't talk about her dad anymore... especially since he had an important role. Now they basically pretend he never existed :funny:

My reaction to his getting canned is sort of "meh". The character just seemed like extra weight to me anyway.

If it was Cisco, or someone like that, it would be a bigger deal to me, but I feel team Flash is getting too large with too many characters anyway, so Digby leaving isn't a great tragedy.

I've only read a few of the sexist tweets but not the racist ones. If Grant is coming out making a statement then it must be bad.

This does remind me a little of the James Gunn situation, though there doesn't seem to be the fanboy outrage and fury with this as there was with Gunn.

After the season finale, I can see how Ralph might need to impersonate Sue. I think it could work, like the Voyager episode when Jeri Ryan played both Seven and the Doctor.

Basically thus far everyone is like "byeeeee, don't know ya!"

He does have someone in his corner though....she ahs nothing to do with the show though (but was on LoT for 3 episodes)

Its funny how they're don't want to say his name :funny: But I can understand why none of the cast member are willing to back him up as they clearly feel strongly about these societal issues so him tweeting those things must have hurt them personally. Also its not in their best interest to appear slightly sympathetic towards Sawyer. I don't think they hate him but rather they disappointed in him.

I think this may, to me, be a situation that some of the actors may not want to cause waves by disagreeing with the showrunner, or some others, like the showrunner, are acting on anger at the situation, and not the godly understanding of forgiveness.

I’m not really sad about him leaving the show as I feel the team grew too much over the seasons.

Did I miss something? As the amount of tweets I have seen that basically been calling for Killer Frost actress to be fired as well are very confusing.

I have no horse in this race - I'm not a Flash viewer and I don't have any familiarity with Mr. Sawyer's work - but I think this stinks. I can certainly understand deciding not to hire him if offensive tweets were revealed during the casting process. But the guy's got 50 episodes under his belt. If there has been no inappropriate behaviour during his tenure, no evidence of racism or misogyny, it seems silly to can him based on some dumb ass tweets made before he was even hired.

That's probably because it's the worst kept secret that she and Candice do not get along and Danielle was pro SnowBerry at the beginning of the series. Just petty shipper drama. Some try to say its because Danielle is racist...I don't really agree.

A little disappointed since I was a big fan of Ralph and was looking forward to seeing the dynamic between him and Sue grow, but it's obvious the CW and Wallace needed to let him go. Hartley seems like a good guy who just posted some really insensitive tweets years ago and it is a shame that people feel the need to dig up old tweets like that.

I'm not defending the guy because he was old enough to know better at the time and should have deleted the tweets years ago.

I can't believe that some fans want to get rid of Danielle Panabaker just because she's not friends with Candice Patton and that she cracked a few jokes about SnowBerry. Some of these tweets are toxic and full of hatred.

Shocking no one. Twitter wants this guy's career to be over with but at the same time are totally okay with Gunn's creepy ass still getting job offers

This is what happened to James Gunn as Hartley was trying to tell edgy jokes but the problem is these jokes don't really translate well on Twitter due to Twitter being overly liberal. Entertainers can't get away with being non PC on that platform as they will get massive backlash from the progressives and they will get endless tweets about being "cancelled" from the far left (Unless you're someone who thrives off that like Ricky Gervais).

I'm sure actors now are encouraged to delete their tweets from 5 to 10 years ago as those old tweets could resurface and damage their reputation. I'm not a fan of cancel culture as I believe people can learn from their behaviour and grow as a person. He hasn't tweeted anything too controversial in the last 2-3 years which suggests he's moved on from that. I'm sure Hartley Sawyer will find work but unlike the James Gunn situation Hartley doesn't seem to have the support of anyone from the Flash and it is a little sad to see Grant Gustin denounce him on Instagram but I understand his pov.

The jokes don't translate at all because they're unfunny and just flat out stupid.

There is a LOT of gossip about that. If it's not true, fine. but if it is, firing Hartley and not Danielle is a bad double standard.

Danielle has never said anything as bad as Hartley. It's hardly the same imo. Of course we'll never know if she'd have the same respect for WestAllen if the actress were white but it's also the same thing that happened on Arrow with Olicity fans vs. Lauriver fans.
