Yeah, Rises has its problems and it’s the weakest of Nolan’s trilogy but I still think it’s better than a lot of CBMs and Bane is a ****ing awesome villain.

Agreed. I rate it above all the DCEU and several MCU films.

I'm quite fond of The Dark Knight Rises. Bane is my second favorite villain in the Nolan trilogy and one of my favs in CBMs period.

DC is great it's the DCEU that is the problem. Even Marvel's cartoons suck at the moment so it's not just Teen Titans Go! The Arrowverse has been extremely successful for the CW, so really it is just a movie problem.

Absolutely right. The comics are fantastic at the moment. The video games have been amazing for years. The cartoons are wonderful. The CW shows might not be everyone's taste, but they are successful, popular and do a decent job of representing the characters they use.

The DCEU is the problem, and only the DCEU.

It was started terribly by Snyder and co... and they still don't have a clue what they're doing.

Even this redundant Joker movie only exists because of the mess the DCEU is in.

And nothing is going to change any time in the near future. Strap yourself in.

Well, subjectively I take issue with TTG but yes it is successful despite being a show that I and many others dislike. Because apparently you have to go to streaming services to get action in cartoons now. I don't see why video games would outright replace these shows in the marketplace, so l don't buy the common industry explanation. As far as the worry over serialization goes, don't serialize the shows on cable then, most DCAU episodes were stand alone besides Justice League.

I still love the film and find still find it vastly superior to almost all of the MCU movies. I understand it has flaws, but its still a fantastic film if you ask me. The sewer fight between Bats and Bane is one of the most brutal fights i've seen in a comic book film

The Thomas Wayne stuff makes it sound as though Batman doesn't exist in the universe, and never will. Thomas Wayne being alive and in his sixties would put Bruce in his thirties or twenties. Unless we are to assume that Thomas is still cranking out kids at his age, which isn't unheard of I suppose.

Wonder if maybe the Joker is the Batman of that universe. If it's an Elseworlds story I can imagine something like that.

I’m telling ya man, Batman and the Joker are the same person! The screenwriter was taking a cue from Donald Kaufman in “Adaptation.”

Oh man, that’s the kind of deep, exciting twist that us idiots who like the comic books just can’t accept or understand.

Robert De Niro is ready to do his first comic book movie.

The veteran and legendary is in negotiations to join Joaquin Phoenix in Warner Bros.’s upcoming Joker stand-alone movie from The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips.

Phoenix is portraying the DC Comics villain in a movie that is more moderately-budgeted and darker than the studio’s other DC-based movies, known as the DC Cinematic Universe.

Phillips is direct from a script he's co-written with Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter). While plot details are largely unknown, the stand-alone is supposed to be set in Gotham City in the early 1980s.

If a deal makes, De Niro would play a talk show host who is somehow instrumental in the Joker’s origin.
These talks have been going on for weeks, but a deal is near and they have finally worked out the financials.
Sources said he’ll play a formative figure in the development of the character who eventually becomes The Joker. But De Niro’s character is not a villain, I’m told.

I was like, please let him be joker's dad.

Screw it, lets bring in Pacino and Pesci too and you've secured my opening weekend ticket.

So... that outline is real, huh?

This cast is shaping up to be fantastic

The plot outline doesn’t sound bad to me tbh

This isn't 80s DeNiro. This is "Bad Grampa, Meet the Fockers, The Intern" DeNiro. So while it's cool to see his name thrown around, doesn't necessarily mean the quality will be good.

I just hope De Niro actually tries to act in it. I love old school De Niro, but he’s been terrible the past 10+ years. If he’s confirmed, I hope he brings his A-game, and doesn’t sleepwalk through it.

Yeah, I love De Niro but he's not above paycheck roles.

Exactly.
