Frances Conroy is in talks to play the Joker’s mother, Penny, in Warner Bros.’ “Joker,” an individual with knowledge of the project exclusively told TheWrap.

Conroy recently starred in “The Tale” opposite Laura Dern, Jason Ritter and Elizabeth Debicki as well as “American Horror Story,” “Young Sheldon” and “Arrested Development.”

If they introduce multiple backstories through the use of an unreliable narrator, I can accept all this joker mother and brother nonsense because we won’t know what to believe

I was intrigued, nearing some excitement, up until the A. Fleck/Bruce's half-brother thing leaked. Now I'm back to wait-and-see with a dash of uh-oh mode.

I'm assuming they are casting Frances Conroy based on her work in Six Feet Under, in which case, bleh. She was quite bland in that role, and yes, I realize she won awards for it.

Interestingly enough, I googled what else she's been in, and she was in Catwoman.

I'm in the same boat. Phoenix is a brilliant choice for the Joker, and yet it sounds like they're gonna make him Bruce waynes half brother. WTF is that?!

Which unless Batman shows up at some point, there would be no payoff to it.

If they go with a mix of King of Comedy, Requiem for a Dream and Taxi Driver then this could be a great one off in the same category as Logan. I just hope the half-brother angle is false and the mother's obsession with her former employer is the television host played by De Niro and not Thomas Wayne.
