In all seriousness I don’t think we are getting a “Joker” movie. We are getting a story of a guy who had a bad day and becomes Joker at the end.

Correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t every incarnation of the Joker only appeared after Batman already existed?

Same I thought he was fine, overall design was good for him too. I could’ve done without the forehead tattoo really and maybe even the grillz. But it was what it was.

I am however looking forward to this from what we know so far because Phoenix is an awesome choice for this role.

If it's shooting in September then I imagine they're aiming for a July-August release. July 26th is currently vacant as Hobbs and Shaw moved back a week but I could also being released in mid August.

Leto was far more suited to classic Joker than Phoenix and we got tats and piercings. All thanks to every freaking director feeling the need to put a visual "stamp" on the character.

Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Wolf of Wall Street) is producer on the Joker origin stand-alone, while Richard Baratta is an executive producer.

Emma Tillinger Koskoff was Producer for Silence (2016) which was directed by Martin Scorsese and upcoming The Irishman (2019) which Scorsese is directing.

I think Scorsese is Executive Producer for this Joker movie.

Someone suggested that WB probably never had any real intent of making a solo Joker movie with Leto, and just offered the idea to Leto to keep him from walking after Harley Quinn proved way more popular and immediately got a spin-off (despite Leto having been a much bigger star than Robbie going into Suicide Squad).

People greatly underestimate A) The love for Harley and B) Margot Robbie if they weren't telegraphing this. Joker had already been seen twice on the big screen.

I don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand, the prospect of seeing Phoenix play the Joker really excites me, as does Scorsese’s involvement in the project. And I don’t even mind that it’s an origin. The Joker’s backstory has been “multiple choice”, so even if they don’t go with something akin to the Killing Joke origin, that’s okay with me.

But what bothers me is that this film is likely a one-off, set in the 80s or 90s and probably doesn’t even feature Batman. I know there are people out there who loathe the shared universe model that Marvel has more or less perfected, but as someone who has read these comic books for decades, I feel like that’s essentially what these films need to be. People want to see their heroes and villains appear together on film because that’s how we’ve seen them in comics and cartoons. And even if you want to keep these characters isolated, with Batman just handling his own crap and no mention of Superman and Wonder Woman, he should at least be sharing the screen with his most popular villain.

This kinda reminds me of the controversy surrounding the Venom movie. Maybe you can do a Venom origin film without Spider-Man, but should you? And yeah, you can argue that Venom will probably suck because it’s a Sony picture, but has WB done all that much lately to assure you that they know what the hell they’re doing, at least when it involves Batman and Chris Nolan is nowhere to be found?

I don’t know. Maybe this film will be a masterpiece and none of this other stuff will matter. But even if that is the case, it would be kinda sad to have another great Joker that we’ll never see again after one film. It’s possible that WB would require Phoenix to sign a multi-picture deal, but maybe not. He’s avoided franchises thus far. And maybe if it’s only a one-off, he’ll give it all he’s got and the performance will be amazing. But I can help but feel like this is just another case of WB “throwing crap at a wall and seeing what sticks.”

Yeah, that’s another thing that worries me. Phoenix is a great actor, but I honestly HATED him in the last two things I saw him in (The Master and Inherent Vice). He seems like one of those actors that directors just let run wild and don’t rein in. Sometimes that can lead to an amazing performance. Other times, you get Leto in Suicide Squad.

It might be good but nothing about this really has me all that excited, mainly because the Joker is only interesting to me when Batman is involved. Why I think Nolan's Joker was perfect was because he was an unreliable narrator and the counter balance to Batman. Anything before that isn't that interesting to me, even Nicholson's Jack Napier wasn't much to write home about in Burton's Batman.
