It might just be me, but Affleck never seemed like the most enthusiastic/outgoing guy... even prior to BvS coming out, he seemed pretty blase about everything.

All those years in Hollywood and spotlight will do that to you.

I feel sorry for Affleck. He obviously came into playing Batman with great hopes. I still think he's done a great job (far better than I thought he would) but I can absolutely see why his enthusiasm started to wane (Wayne? :woot:) even before the JL debacle.

Well it was a very risky and different move for him compared to the other actors.

Memories of Daredevil (which I actually liked - especially the director's cut) and all that. Understandable.

I also think part of the issue wasn't Joss or the reshoots. I felt post BVS Affleck wasn't as invested in the role as he first was when he signed on.

I think anyone would be rattled after that. Think about it. This was supposed to be his big superhero comeback, and ended up with even worse reception than Daredevil. I don't know what was going on in his head at the time, but anyone would be reasonable to be upset.

Remember he also got a divorce, Live By Night bombed hard and was dragged into the #MeToo drama

It's interesting how people forget all this and only focus on how bad RT score for BvS was.

Edit: He was also going through alcohol rehab at same time.

Yeah from what I've read in interviews. A lot of actors don't really take a movie's reception to heart. Actors like Ben will always have acting gigs in movies with great to poor receptions. Directors have a harder time because it's their work that they spend years working on to perfect. Also it might impact them from getting further directing gigs.

But does it really change the conversation? This is just piling onto the negativity pile and is even more of a reason for Ben to slow down, step back, and reassess how he wants to move forward.

Guy wears his emotions on his sleeve, it’s easy to tell whenever he’s rattled. He’s acknowledged it before that he’s more fit for the smaller flicks and I’m sure that’s come to mind plenty of times within the past 2 years. Holding on to him for continuity’s sake, difficulty in recasting, or fear of acknowledging failure, are all terrible reasons in doubling down. Especially if he’s not up to it.

If Affleck genuinely isn't interested, then I wouldn't want him to continue, but I haven't been convinced that's the case.

We've had conflicting rumours about this for years, at SDCC 2017 a lot of people were sure he was about leave, but he's still here.

Until there's an official statement or Affleck himself says otherwise I'm going to assume he's staying on.

I wish it had worked out for him.

I'm the same. I don't want him to go - but if he is going I just want us to find out and move on from there.

Small Snyder Cut tidbit. Chris Wong has a nice video up about an exchange on twitter that Mark Hughes was apparently going back and forth with people yesterday about the Snyder Cut. Hughes was saying that it just doesn't exist and that the only alternative that would behoove WB is taking some of Zack's completed footage and re-editing the theatrical and making an extended cut. Jay Olivia was part of this exchange saying that Zack filmed everything that was storyboarded and he isn't the kind of director that makes his films in the editing bay, he meticulously plans everything out beforehand and films it. Which, if you think about his past movies is true. MoS and BvS did not have reshoots.

They also go on to talk about Supes' original role in the final battle and some questioned if Zack had intended for Supes to be involved much at all in it to which Jay Olivia responded "No he was involved. I drew a lot of Supes kicking ass." Olivia also said that the "super breath" was originally in Snyder's cut too. Sounds like we missed out on a ton of epic Superman action.

My take away from this? Zack filmed the entirety of his movie. Screened it, the execs were like, "nah, you need to fix x, y and z" and Zack intended to do the reshoots himself but these were reshoots probably imposed upon him by his superiors unlike MoS and BvS.

So the options are A) The studio forks over cash for Zack to finish the VFX for his cut which is all thats left to do (but not a likely option) B) DO like Hughes says, release an extended cut of the TC inserting Zack's footage and making it closer to his cut but it would still be an amalgamation of Zack and Whedon C) Release Zack's cut unfinished as maybe a special very limited edition run for fans who are willing to pay premium price for it, and it sounds like most of us would happily watch the unfinished VFX version of this. And D) Do nothing at all and let JL die and move on.WB/DC had a very good week this past week and built a lot of positive press off of Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Their future looks bright and they could focus on the WW, Aquaman and Shazam franchises which could sustain them for a while. It might behoove them to look forwards instead of backwards.

What do y'all think?

Nice post

I think option D) is what WB would have done in past but now with new top management in charge (After AT&T acquiring Time Warner as they want more 'content' as they plan to start streaming services, they have even renamed Time Warner to WarnerMedia.) chances are if there is enough demand out there for Snyder Cut...we will get it.

So, I see option B) happening, that is, we may get 'Extended Cut' with more Snyder directed scenes and longer run-time but not completely 'free' of Whedon shot scenes.

Great post. I saw Hughes also say how (just an opinion piece) the AT&T merger could effect Cavill with not getting a Supeman film.

Of course, I choose to not believe that since there's evidence proving otherwise, especially what Henry posts and his answers when pressed. I follow Mario from Revenge of the Nerd on Twitter and he always answers my questions and says Hamada has a plan and feels strongly about it, Supes included.

Not sure why he is saying this, I have read several news reports published in different respectable news sites and all of them said that AT&T won't interfere in WB's movie making business and WB's TV divisions, but they want them to make more 'media content'.

I don't know how that translates into Cavill not getting his Superman movie, if anything I think opposite's happening.

A few years back it was said Peter Chernin could become involved if the merger goes through. But overall, I don't think Cavill's fate is any worse than before. Hamada seems to be in charge of DC films and the process may have been streamlined for the better with Diane Nelson and Jon Berg moving on and Geoff Johns shifting to the creative side fulltime.

Agreed.

Thinking objectively for a moment and not as a fan, i think option D: Forgetting about JL makes the most sense for WB, especially if Aquaman and Wonder Woman can build goodwill back. Hit the male demographic with Aquaman, hit the female demo with WW and hit the kids and families with Shazam. Its a sound plan.

However, I DO feel like, and again, thinking as a studio whose out to make money. There's still some dollars left in the JL tank which could help them break even on the whole endeavor. People are HUNGRY for Zack's cut and the demand only seems to be getting bigger not smaller. Will the whole #releasethesnydercut movement die down eventually? Of course. We all have to move on eventually, but why not strike while the iron is hot? Its been 7 months since JL and people are still chanting for it. The studio spent all this money on footage that they did NOT ultimately use, why not squeeze out some extra money from it? They could release a special limited edition, limited release edition of JL: Director's Cut for like $70-$80 bucks and people will eat it up and it will satisfy the fans. It may also end up improving JL's rep. I think they only have to gain not lose from it and the fans can stop tweeting #releasethesnydercut on their social media pages and move forward.

DC Streaming service and soon to be launched WB's streaming service to compete against Netflix (which is what AT&T wants but don't quote me on that) would need more 'exclusive' movie content, which is where they can release Justice League -Extended Cut.

That's a REALLY good idea, Micromind. Boy would that be a way to lure in subscribers.

Wouldn’t be worth the PR nightmare regardless of its quality.

Yeah I'm with kguillou here. I think at this point the most likely move is WB just moving forward and trying to forget it. Particularly when they are actively trying to promote a new Aquaman movie, I don't see them wanting to bring that up again.

Mark McClure(Jimmy Olsen) shared this on a con :

Mark McClure had 3 scenes with Amy Adams. The police station scene is a reshoot, no surprise. He too hopes that a “director’s cut comes out” as he enjoyed his scenes in the film.
