So apparently the rights to John Carter of Mars just reverted back from Disney to Edgar Rice Burroughs with plans to entice a new studio to adapt the author’s “Mars” cycle.

Could the same happen to with Fox after FFINO fails at the box office? Or would they still hold onto them at all cost? But it's not like the two previous FF films were so successful. You'd think they would do a Disney and let the rights revert back to the original creators. But no. They seem to want to hold onto it for dear life.

I don't think they want to hold on to the rights for dear life as they just don't want to see the rights return to Marvel without some sort of compensation. The FF franchise is far more valuable in Marvel's hands than Fox's, I think they just don't like the idea of that happening without them making something out of it also.
