The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 8

I just saw the trailer for "Pan" which ended with a "Summer 2015" tag. It's looks like its going to be moving away from Ant-Man, and the spot opposite FFINO makes sense.

Aren't they both scheduled for July 17th right now?

I saw that article - and it looks like the new date came from the photo captions. As if it was old news. I just haven't seen anything saying that there was in fact a change - that the movie was moved from one date to another. But thanks!

Good point. The article is just running with the photo as truth. But maybe the photo text was wrong to begin with.

I hope that Pan is good. Jackman should be a big draw for people and it should be interesting to see him in a villainous role.

I think if Marvel is smart they'll movie Any Man to August. Their ego and fear may prevent this because when all of your movies are solid hits that are opening at number 1 then moving maybe seen as a sign of weakness and faith in the project, which it shouldn't be.

But if Ant-Man moved opposite FFINO, I don't think any FF fan would see that as a sign of weakness by Marvel whatsoever. They'd see it as Marvel doing it deliberately to rain on Fox's parade, and would also appear like a supreme sign of confidence that they're even willing to put Ant-Man against one of their own comic properties (even if it's not their film property).

If Marvel moved Ant-Man to that date, I think the people at Fox need to start finding masses of toilet paper for when they start pooing in their pants.

I would be fine with that. Don't know if Pan would move though, but FFINO seems a good spot for it.

They would wise to do so because they are virtually guaranteed to come in second place that weekend - at best. I would be shocked if Ant-Man does not open at #1 with typical Marvel numbers. Whether it's a bad film or it's a good film (and there's a strong chance it will be despite all the haters) does not really factor into that first weekend. The quality of the film and word of mouth will dictate its second weekend.

I don't see how Pan could even qualify as counter programming. Why not move to a weekend where you have better chances for success?

If Ant-Man moved to the FF weekend, I'd see it as cool that I could see a movie that weekend instead of just doing yard-work or something.

Ant-Man moving to August would be based off the huge success of Guardians. It would effectively kill FF's chances of success, and Fox would be forced to move again.

Can FFINO really move to Ant-Man's former spot though if Ant-Man move? FFINO would be up against Pan, and then FFINO would probably be panned (which it will be anyway).

Where else could they move to if Ant-Man went directly opposite them?

Who would've thought years ago that the FF, Marvel's first family, would be afraid of Ant-man?

Yeah, that would stop that little Goosebumps celebration some were having real short. WB has to realize that Pan would OWN in August vs struggling against Ant-man, Minions and Poltergeist to name a few mid July.

Ant-Man would own in August as well, and Disney/Marvel have the power to move it instead of waiting for another studio to possibly move opposite FFINO. They would kill two birds with one stone in that move.

Maybe Marvel could cut a deal with Warner to push Pan in the FF slot, forcing Fox to move even later into the summer. Maybe lend them some money for BvS marketing or some ****. Since we are living in fantasy land here, being a Pan film and all.

Wait wasn't Ant-man already set to release in August but then took Bat v Sup's spot once they moved to 3/2016?

I doubt they'd move back to August.

EDIT: No it was actually November 2015.

Either way something in July has to budge.

Ya, when Affleck was cast it was slated for July 17th 2015. They were never going to shy away from Warner Bros, whatever their backup plan was (Pan in this case). Makes no sense to get started later in the summer just because Guardians was a hit there.

But in this case they aren't shying away from WB but trolling Fox and taking advantage of the date because of Guardians' success which they didn't know about when Ant Man was scheduled for July last year.

Wait now Pan is showing up on June 26th.

At this point I'll route for and possibly even support any film that moves their film to Aug 7th.

The thing is, you put up a blockbuster even 3 weeks ahead of this movie, it will obliterate it at the BO. Of course that is speculation on my part, but I can certainly see that happening.

starscream, where's that Miles Teller quote from (in your sig)?

The trash bin, where it belongs.

I agree ;)

 Why are they moving there? They're moving the wrong way. Isn't that just a week after Inside Out and on the same day as Ted 2? That's almost the FFINO's previous spot.

So cut your summer box office run by two weeks when Pan or anything else there isn't much competition? Good business plan for an unproven character... Fanboys need to get over this. If the FF film is awful like we all think it'll be, the box office will reflect that, regardless of what is put up against it.

in a perfect world, yes. but even awful and widely panned films still sometimes make lots of money.. (looking at Transformers 4) just because it makes money, doesn't mean it was liked. just means people saw it.

and in the same vein. there's lots of brilliant and amazing films that get loads of praise and a cult following, but never made even a remote profit in theaters

FF would have to truly tank for Fox to be worried about box office. They've underbudgeted this thing safely enough to keep them in the green. And now with a competition free weekend they are going to open up at #1 on the strength of the Marvel brand alone. Hate to say it but fanboys lose on this one.
