Its really not all that impressive. I'm sure a lot of people are connected to the industry. 3 of my immediate family members are connected to the movie industry. I've seen some things many of you guys would find cool before but I refrain from talking about it because I know the stakes. Either this guy doesn't value his job enough or he's been given the OK. This isn't a normal production so I'm going to guess this is some terrible attempt to do damage control.

I agree. A lot of people are connected to the industry and it's not all that impressive, which is why I don't understand why our fellow user Zarex has such a tough time accepting the fact that this guy is connected. It's very common.

Connected could also just mean he's friends with someone who has a brother that does Kate Mara's makeup or something. It doesn't mean we should value his opinion any higher than anyone else here.

Hey, if Josh Trank himself came and posted here I wouldn't value his opinion either because it would still not be an FF movie.

Why would they send Mara's makeup artist of all people to do damage control? :funny:

mercureyx, I don't know you. Some people here say that you are legit. I have no reason not to trust that you are legit... but... you said that Trank lied a lot. Why do we have to trust what you said about the production.

Yes, the synopsis (well, what synopsis, the first or the very recent one) is false for you. Interesting, but where are the proof for us ?

The fact we have, on the other hand, and that are legit (come from Fox / the production, etc...) :

- None of the cast (except for Kate Mara) look like the characters from the comics (even the UFF ones)

- The movie was shot in Bâton Rouge (a town that doesn't look like NY at all) under wraps, mostly on green screen, all to keep the budget as small as possible.

- There is no A lister in this movie.

- There is only 7 or 8 named characters in the movie (source : imdb), all the other are named as "students", "soldiers", etc...

- The movie is supposed to be grounded and gritty, and will be a lot like chronicle.

- a Fox executive said that the movie will have a "found footage feel". She never said that it will be all found footage, that's true, but it's pretty clear that the movie will be part found footage.

- Victor Von Doom is not Victor Von Doom but a guy named Victor Domashev who is supposed to be an antisocial blogger and hacker an not an aristocratic spoiled genious.

And I won't name the terrible Doom Look from pictures everyone saw but should not be mentionned here.

You can't deny all of that, it's things that we know for sure. All of this is what make people furious. Fox always make the same mistakes with their terrible geek movies (except from the one under Singer guidance) : They believe that fans are dumb *******s who will spend all their money in theater whatever cheap crap they show them.

Problem : Now, there is internet, and fans are not as dumb as they seem. I won't lie to you, this movie seems like a fraud for 2/3 of the fans. So whatever you say won't appease them, it's too late. Fox are at war with them. Funny, isn't it ?

Everyone has said everything and the opposite for this movie, so nothing will be trust anymore.

Do you want a truce, and to really appease fans ? I won't speak for all of them, but I'm sure that a majority can be appease and cease the internet attacks if :

- your friend Trank publish an apology for the dogs pictures. And an apology that will be published by a true and verified source, I'm sure you know why :woot:

- A teaser / trailer, or even official pictures is / are shown before 2015, that are in line with the "traditional" FF. We need proof !

Tell that to Fox, and these two point are not negotiable. Fans want that Fox and Trank respect them. If these two points are not fulfilled, then the mockery and internet attack will continue :) enjoy it !

Actually for a start I would love to know just where Trank has been, since he closed his Twitter 8 months ago we have seen or heard nothing from him except one statement expressing his excitement about a completely different franchise.

Preach!!!!!!!!!

The synopsis is 100% not true. Reed and Ben are not Quick-Stop employees and their powers work exactly like the comics. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about. You guys have nothing to worry about on that front.

It is VERY likely Josh Trank's THE FANTASTIC FOUR will be a good movie... Imagine a more Amblin take on the material.
what other differences there are from the synopsis to the finished story? (I suppose many more if it is 100% not true)

Okay I'll bite. If mercureyx is legit then what's the budget? Why is Fox hiding this film? Why is Trank in the witness protection program? Why does Fox think they can change the name of Marvel's most iconic villain? Is Doom from Latveria? Does he practice sorcery? Does he try to free his mother's soul? Is he a self made man or a "fifth Beatle" who gets his "powers" from the same source as the FF? Why does he look like a dark elf hobo wearing trash bags and a sari?

These are all great questions, but I can assure you we won't get answers to them any time soon.

Those who know aren't telling and those who are telling don't know.

There are a lot of great points in here, but I think the key is some information that shows this film actually features the Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom. I don't really care about an apology one way or the other.

I don't care if Trank is the biggest a**hole in the world as long as he gives us the Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom. Unfortunately his arrogance and the things he said (and the problems related to this film in which he has at least been complicit ) seem to indicate he considers giving us the actual Fantastic Four a low priority.

And even if he had every intention to give us the film we wanted, it would likely be impossible with no budget and a studio that likely would block him every step of the way.

I have no idea if Mercuryx is legit or no (if a mod is willing to vouch for them I can give them some leeway), but I don't think they are a shill: I doubt a shill would highlight how Kinberg heavily rewrote the script to cut the budget.

I mean, sure they have gone with a postiive spin to suggest it might have an Amblin flick feel, naturally evoking thoughts of Spielberg's greatest hits, etc, but that seems a tad contradictory on a slashed budget.

Slashed budget isn't a positive at all.

This evoked a spit take from me. God I want to punch that dumbface. Him and Eli Manning.

I really hope this scene makes it into the film:

We won't get the answers because they know we won't like the answers.

The 2nd Ghost Rider movie peed into the wind just like this FFINO movie is doing:

I do wonder why the hell Trank and FOX if true, would spread such horrible rumors anyway... it's actually severely hurt the film more than it could even be possible to help. Those "lies" (if they are lies) are actually sabotaging their own film.

I can't imagine the leaked synopsis is true, but it's likely based in some truths.

But I would think that in light of all the bad speculation about the film that's being spread due to the absence of any confirmed information from Fox themselves - just maybe they would be spurred into some kind of action to stem the tide of speculation and generate positive buzz.

The lack of any positive response from Fox or Trank or Kinberg only fosters the hostility from old-school fans, and complete indifference from the general public.

That's the biggest thing with this. Fox has has numerous opportunities to get people interested and get people involved. The bottom line is they don't care.

Fox did a great job with the promotion of X-men DOFP. From the comic-con panel to the wonderful teaser trailer. They were an open book and Hugh Jackman has been a great representative for the franchise.

They are not doing that with this film. They are being secretive, they don't even have a trailer put together, and all that we are left with is people's desperation to defend this film.

If you want to change the narrative, then throw the fans a bone. Otherwise people are going to think the worst, because we're not hearing anything positive.

This is the key, but it's getting more difficult with each passing day as people make judgments based on what is known.

Six months ago, I would have been encouraged by some positive-sounding snippets, but that same information now won't sway me as much as it would have then.

The more I become convinced this treatment just isn't worth my time, the harder it will be to convince me otherwise.

I agree, but the reality of all of this, is that one of the few inconvenient truths of the film industry, is that crap films are willingly greenlit with the thought that they will recoup some cost and write the rest off as a loss.

Fox is at least smart from a stand point that they are reducing the budget, so this won't be another John Carter or Lone Ranger on their hands.

Fox has always been up front in promoting films they know to be successful. Who would have thought that the Planet of the Apes reboots would be as successful as they have? Fox heavily promoted both, and when the first film came out I thought "really another Planet of the Apes film?" Having thought back to the horrible Tim Burton reboot.

As I mentioned they promoted the heck out of Days of Future Past and the Wolverine.

The proponents of this film keep asking, "why would Fox release a film that they hope fails?" Well that question is from a false premise. It's not that they want it to fail. I'm sure they wish it would be a hit, but I believe they know it's going to be a colossal failure.

However there's a big difference between wanting a film to succeed and minimizing losses, and the latter is precisely how Fox is acting. Fox has hundreds and hundreds of accountants and tax lawyers at their disposal. They know the numbers, and the simple truth of hollywood is, that in certain cases it's better off financially to produce and release a film that bombs than it is to take a loss on a film that you have poured development money on that ultimately has to be scrapped.

None of us can know this, because we don't have access to the books and wouldn't really know until Fox releases their earnings after the film had come out. But it's my believe that the number crunchers made a decision that it would be financially beneficial to continue production, with a minimal budget and write off a loss at the end of the year, and they would lose less money than just scrapping the project outright.

I think its simply down to Fox having no faith in the franchise and their own ability to make a success out of the franchise. There options are to let the rights revert, sell the rights back, make a real effort with the franchise, or making a cheap effort. They have no faith in the franchise so a proper attempt at an adaption with a proper budget is out, Fox don't believe they can make the franchise successful enough to rise a $+100 million budget on it. Fox won't let the rights just revert, they know that Marvel would likely turn it into a highly successful franchise, and I doubt they would be happy for that to happen and them to get nothing out of it. They could sell it back but that requires Fox and Disney to play, Fox wanting a sensible amount and Disney interested in playing. But Fox have gone with the ultra conservative approach with a budget low enough that it should not need to be very successful to make a profit.

As a result I hope that if it does poorly then it does very poorly, bad enough that even the low budget approach becomes unprofitable. By taking it off the table it leaves Fox with two options, they can make a proper effort at producing a real FF film, true to the franchise and with a budget large enough to allow that to happen. The other option is for Fox to make a real attempt to sell the rights back to Disney for a sensible amount.

While most of us here would like to see the rights return to Marvel and join the MCU what we mainly want to see if a good FF film made, by anyone that is willing to try. But while the low budget option is available to Fox I don't see them willing to look at any other option anytime soon unless made to. This production flopping as badly as Jonah Hex is one of the few things I can see happening that could force them.
