And if Marvel did get the FF back, they'd probably just add Annihilus to Guardians 2, make Black Panther square off against Doctor Doom and then add Galactus to Infinity War.
thanks for putting that link... i didn't know he answered questions there, so thoroughly and actually answering them. I been wrapped up browsing thru it all, really cool thing to check out.
but regardless of what he said, I totally disagree. I think at this point, if FF came back, we'd see them Phase 4. I think for sure. He's totally speaking on the comics. And even in the comics, they aren't awful sellers, they really are not. It's their classic Marvel iconic status that makes it talked about like an underperformer. cuz it kind of is, they really should be selling more.
Aside from that, a movie of Fantastic Four, done by Marvel Studios, and done right...would have the potential to be huge. and actually maybe even kickstart the comic somehow. But it's really a different thing. FF done properly is big budget, family oriented, high adventure films, where the tone and the humor of Marvel Studios fits absolutely perfectly. And villains of the FF, would get their best sides shown introduced as villains of the FF. I could see things like Annihilus and others done just as fine in a GOTG movie, and so there'd be some of that, i agree.
But I think Marvel would really recognize and have the most chance to realize the potential of the property. And they would not wait around, something like FF would even be treated as a likely lynchpin in their plans for Phase 4. It has that kind of potential.
Marvel FF movies could involve things like opening up to them in the Savage Land, being chased by dinosaurs...traveling dimensions, space and time, ending up in some alternate ancient South America or Egypt apocalyptic doom scenario, or an alternate modern day, with different versions of all the MCU heroes...
or really pulp fiction type weird science alien invasions, with shapeshifters and sinister plots and double crosses. all the colorful, fantastical, magical, monstrous, and bigger than life glory of the MCU, all of it makes sense with them. they would be just like they are in the comics, like this glue for the whole universe. if MCU set them up... that is their glue for the next decade of films. things could come and go, but there's the FF.
sometimes when i think about it, I just wonder... how much money is Fox asking for? cuz FF would really be worth a lot for Disney to get back.
family, family, family. basically.
also, just as example of how comic sales do not necessarily reflect a property's cinematic value... look at Iron Man. last year, he didn't even have a book running for a bunch of months. Gillen's run had ended. story was over, and even besides that, sales were often less than the FF. Marvel just gave Gillen the space to do what he wanted to for quite a while actually. and obviously we wouldn't say... Iron Man movies don't connect with people.
