see now... its a pre-order again. i just don't trust it. the photo makes me wary too.

finally made some progress on my mask!
please disregard the weird eyeballs- it's a bust i use to hold another mask.
xdzbj5.jpg

base is veg tan leather, wetmolded to fit on my head. covered with canvas, painted with a blend of black, silver, etc (you can see the subtle color change in bright lights) 3/8th inch wire loom cut in half and then burnished with silver leaf color rub n buff. hot glued in place on edges (tested to make sure it would work). then i punched some holes in the leather and used tiny eyelets to attach grosgrain ribbon in place. it looks like webbing but is thinner so it's easier to work with. i will be tucking the ribbon under and gluing an interior piece over it to permanently secure it.
gonna start working on the metal bits in back and on the sides next, then the side panels... and finally the muzzle (i figure that will take the longest)

Good call on the ribbon, that looks legit! I was foolishly thinking about using the foamies material. Now, to go out & get some of that ribbon...

thanks man, i used 5/8th grosgrain ribbon. they have it in every color known to man. for the piece that overlapped both tubes i just did one layer, but the short ones i actually used contact cement and folded the ribbon over on itself. ended up making it easier to punch the holes for the eyelets, too.

makes me wish i had no integrity so i could sell a crappy mask for thousands. or do that thing where it is a photo of the actual screen used mask.. and morons buy it thinking it's an auction for a mask.

BANEZERO:

dude don't just pad the back as that will, indeed, make the front borders dig into your flesh and even cut it. you need to pad the ENTIRE insides of the mask so that the stretching of the material is ALL over the mask. that will help quite a bit into making that cheekbridge get the right shape

OR you can glue a semi-rigid sheet of plastic or something that will flatten the piece against your skin.

yeah so took a look at that ebay listing and thought the picture looked familiar. they just took an actual photo of hardy in the mask and cut him out. see?

banetico, nice work. very thorough instructions. big improvement in the mask too

Hey Loviatar, your mask is looking really awesome, I love the tubing with the ribbons great idea. your model, on the other hand, isn't looking so hot, you might need to get him to a doctor...or the morgue haha

question for anyone who has made their mask... what did you do for this?
29msi7m.jpg

i think i remember that roids, todd(todd did not), and mj have all sculpted it in to the mask itself.. i am planning on it being a net-like material in top of a solid layer underneath since that is what it looks like to me...
currently i have 2 materials on hand and i am thinking of swiping somebody's fishnets to see how those would look too. the reference photos that i have make it difficult to tell if it is a net over something, or it that whole section has a waffle texture built in. does anyone know for sure?

hahaha! yeah, he's lookin a little weird right now.. thats a styrafoam head that's been built up to match my head shape somewhat. normally he is all black but i had to build up brow ridges and then i taped everywhere that the bane mask would be, to get an idea of what the shape of each piece was going to look like.
when he is not acting as a bane head form, he is wearing a halloween mask that looks like one of the locust from gears of war. i usually have him wrapped with some creepy cloth too. makes him look like some sort of cursed, evil babushka.
i showed the picture to a few people and had to apologize every time. maybe next time i'll change his look up so as not to offend!

I'm 99% positive that Todd used real fabric as I remember him posting a picture of it when he first started posting little bits and pieces about the mask around the time he announced he was doing it.
ooooh you are right, page 10 of part 2. thanks for reminding me. i wish i had some of that fabric, it looks spot-on. these are what i've got.. i dont love either. they are both stretched over a light colored object for ease of comparison...

Loviatar, the first thing that comes to my mind is the old Lego fish nest that were in the pirate sets, I bet i you glued some of those done on a pice of leather or foam it'd look pretty close with the square designs in them. Just an idea and I may be completely off haha

Jonny, yeah fish nets haha.

Banetico, that looks identicle to the material, good find!

what we do at the 501st is to dye the fabric (it comes in white) black. it will catch the dye in a heartbeat and perfectly.

FISHNETS!!!! great idea i was thinking of some sort of chickenwire but thats good too. im gunna try chicken wire for mine but if not...... :oldrazz::oldrazz:

So update on my set up. I spent pretty much the entire day building my vest from scratch, I had to scrap what i had before. It may not be 100% accurate, but I'm not done with it yet. There is one thing that I will brag about though that sets it aside from anyone elses. Mine's.... BULLETPROOF! haha. Being prior military I have all sorts of goodies thrown around my house and I actually found some ballistics gel that I used as the padding in my vest.

Here's some pics of the vest up to date: http://imgur.com/a/Og6Sv

And here's the gel I used: http://imgur.com/MjksS

Open to any suggestions or methods! Next up is painting/weathering the armor plates, along with weathering on the rest of the vest.
