Gotham The Official Cameron Monaghan As Jerome Valeska/(Possibly) The Joker

Doesn't exactly mean "Joker" shouldn't pop up. He already has in a sort of way in Jerome, and this time, actually planted the seeds of Batman in Bruce. Different interpretations of a character are always going to be made, and Jokerome is no excuse.

That said, I don't exactly ever see him putting on the make-up/suit on the show. But to me, he's Gothamverse's Joker.

Even if he never dons the red lipstick, green hair, or purple suit, it's pretty clear Jerome is Gotham's Joker.

Wasn't the original idea that Jerome inspires the Joker? Sort of like how in the comic books Batman inspired Catwoman.

Yep, but then they've written themselves into a corner of making Jerome look and act too much like the Joker, to the point that if the actual Mr. J were ever established in Gotham, he'd be nothing but a copycat.

Also doesn't help that the majority of people who love Jerome's character and Cameron's portrayal do want him to end up being Gotham's Joker.

A rare case of the actor and writers being too good for their own good. If the actor were bad or character was badly written, people would be glad to be rid of him. Few people are happy with Jared Leto's Joker.
And lots of people hated Barbara Kean the first season. Or Fish Mooney.

It'll always be the biggest mistake of the show if they decide to do the "oh, he's just a prototype Joker" approach because of how critically acclaimed Jerome has been. Might as well just stick with him being the real thing. That certainly isn't going to hurt anything & will actually keep fans happy, especially the stans (like me haha).

If they don't plan to make him Mr. J, I seriously don't understand the need for more of these teases.

I know, right?

It's been said already but at this point making him be a proto-Joker would be the biggest mistake they can make. They really just need to keep Jerome around and have him be the true Joker because everything's already there.

Imo, it's beyond stupid to introduce Jerome and expand on his character this much while literally ripping things from the comics only to say "hey, he's not really the Joker, guys. We're just setting up the 'real' one."

No matter what they do, if they make Jerome the proto-Joker, then the majority of fans aren't going to care about whoever they bring on to be the "real deal."

Or maybe they will just never have the "real" Joker show up. They lied about having Harley Quinn show up, and instead have Barbara Kean as an ersatz Harley Quinn in their own version of Gotham City Sirens.

Cameron posted this on his Twitter earlier:

Not sure if it's Gotham related or not. Probably 50/50.

Even if he doesn't show up, having Jerome be a proto-Joker is still going to make the "real" Joker look like an unoriginal poser. He doesn't even have to show up, everything is already in place for that to be the case whether they go that route (in showing the supposedly "real" Joker) or not.

The guy was surprisingly good. Hope we see more of him.

Assuming you're still bingewatching season 1 by your recent posts in this forum, he will. :cwink:

There are 2 new Jerome pictures!:

He really is the BEST (not) live action Joker since Heath Ledger. Jerome may not officially be the Joker, but he is to me.

Looking awesome. Yeah, he could be going for that no.2 spot in time.

This thread can be renamed now. Best to take out the "(Possibly) The Joker" portion.

I'll be finished with season 3 tomorrow. Hope there are more Jerome scenes to come.

I watched a video on YouTube talking about how Jerome may not be the Joker and there was a theory that there could be a clone of Jerome as it's been shown that Indian Hill was willing to clone Bruce. Then in the comments section, someone pointed out we heard Jerome's laugh at the end of S2 as the patients escaped, yet was resurrected in S3.

It's an interesting theory, and you could still keep Cameron on the show. But as much as I would love it, it probably won't go that way!

Yeah, heard about it. It's a little far-fetched though, but if they wanted, they could always retcon the retcon.

Not to mention there is still the Red Hood gang (or the potential Red Hood), a few Jerome acolytes (especially in the episode that Jerome first died) and that random pilot comedian if they really wanted to do a real plot twist.

According to Morena Baccarin, Cameron Monaghan will play another character on the show. Sounds like it could be a relative!

Spoilers for the second half of Gotham Season 4. There are few Gotham characters fans like to see more than Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska, who's the closest this series has come yet to the iconic Batman villain the Joker. Jerome was locked up in Arkham when he last appeared, after being resurrected from the dead and having to sew his face back into place after a supporter sliced it off. Not only is Jerome returning in Season 4, but Cameron Monaghan is playing another character on Gotham too, according to co-star Morena Baccarin. Bustle reached out to Fox for confirmation, but had not received a response by the time of publication.

"Cameron Monaghan’s coming back," says actor, who plays Lee Thompkins, speaking to Bustle at a Gotham screening at Tumblr's New York office. "He’s never really left us. He’s got some incredible scenes." Those scenes will probably include Oswald, since the Penguin was carted off to Arkham in the midseason finale and may wind up as Jerome's cellmate. But Baccarin also revealed that Jerome will have another ally — one that looks remarkably like him. This is huge news, because, frankly, the cycle of killing and reviving Jerome is starting to get ridiculous, so it's good to know if he winds up being written off of the show for good, there will still be a chance to keep Monaghan around.

The actor didn't specify the name of Monaghan's new Gotham character, but indicated that he's a member of Jerome's own family. Since Jerome had a pretty terrible childhood that led him to become what he is today, it's likely that this relative won't have had a much sunnier experience growing up. According to Baccarin, this character is also "psychotic" and together, the two will be "leading Gotham to revolt."

Could this possible relative/doppelgänger be the man who becomes The Joker?
