The Official Choose A Director Thread

well first and for most is they dont have a director, they dont have a writer, no script they execs can agree on the direction they want to take superman. Then the whole on going copyright battle with the siegel family is another hold up. Cause right now things are at a crosshair. The seigels have the rights now to various aspects to the origin of superman/planet krypton and its destruction, and other things. Were wb/dc still have rights to other stuff. So right now it would be crap to try and start over superman and having to not use the things some fans want to see. I want to be able to have the complete version of superman to be used and all that. There is probably more to it too then we know.

How the hell did they win the copyright battle? Siegel had sold the rights to DC!

I dont know all the finer details about the ongoing copyright battle. But last year and this year they with their lawyer and the judge who is now stepping down gave the siegel heirs(siegel's wife/daughter) certain elements. Were DC still has the rights to other things. I would ask one of the other posters here who may know more of the finer detail things.

I would love to see what cameron would do with superman. He could handle the action and story stuff well. But thats just a dream pick there.

I think he might,if it were an epic script.:awesome: He could co-write himself if he wanted. Cameron is a director I trust.

I agree cameron has been a pretty solid director over the years. I would love to see how he would handle a superhero film. He would probably turn in a very story driven action packed film.

The intelligence of The Terminator
The drama of Titanic
The suspence of Aliens
The action of Avatar

Superman would be epic if Cameron was director.

man i would love to see either of those three would handle superman.

Now we are getting all the, "Cameron for Superman" quotes. Just like when Terminator 2 was coming out we got the "We want Bay!". When Star Trek was out it was, "We want Abrams." Flavors of the month.

Did you connect Terminator 2 with Bay or am I misreading here?

Ive thought Cameron would be a great director for Supes for a long time.

I wasn't necessarily pointing to you directly, you just happened to bring it up. It seems like every time there is a big movie, with a big director, he is the flavor of the month for Superman.

Neil Blomkamp

....with the script written by Ronald D. Moore and either Timm/Dini, Jeph Loeb, or Mark Waid. And before certain people react negatively to my choice of Moore, he has done an amazing job with genre, and I want to take the opposite approach of brining in a Chris Nolan or Bryan Singer have had work grounded in reality prior to there comic book films, and bring in someone who has done there work with genre productions. Battlestar Galactica was amazing, and I don't care what trekkies think, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was Trek's finest hour, along with Ira Steven Behr in fairness, were responsible for that. Moore also wrote some of TNG's best episodes, and while he recieved a writing credit for Generations, he was not that directly involved. The only TNG movie he was directly involved with in a writing capacity was First Contact, which is regarded as the only really good film with that crew. He also wrote and proudced Carnivale, which was awesome, and Roswell, which had it's moments. Anyway, the point is, I think it would be awesome to get Moore on board as a writer/producer. Now, in fairness yet again, he does his best work when he has a good partner/co-producer, like the aforementioned Behr, David Eick, etc. Thats why I would team him with Loeb, Waid, or Timm/Dini.

If only I ruled the world!

Exactly.

Thats why I don't even let those guys slip into my thoughts when thinking about the next Superman film. It would be great, yes, ecspecially Peter Jackson. But it's just not going to happen.

i would like to see how any of those would take superman, but its to bad its likely never ever going to happen.

I would also like to add that my other choice for writer/producer on the next film is Josh Schwartz. He might not meet the genre requirements I talked about up top, but Schwartz is a very talented writer in my opinion, and before you disagree based on his noted television shows, I would like to remind you that J.J. Abrams first big project was Felecity. I think Schwartz is a similiar writer to Abrams, not to mention that he is an uber-comic book fan. It's that which makes me as if Schwartz ever gets ahold of a comic book franchise, he is going to knock it out of the park.
