The Avengers The Official 'Hulk in Avengers' thread. - Part 1

This has been on my mind for a while now and am really wondering how The Avengers movie is going handle the Hulk.

Are we going to get a 90/10 Hulk to Banner like we do in Avengers EMH or are we going to get the 70/30 Banner to Hulk like in TIH.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of characters to handle, but Ruffalo stated it's about 50/50 Banner and Hulk.

With that being said, are we going to give Hulk actual lines and speak, or is he going to just be the bashing ogor that we've all come to love.

I'm hoping he speaks, and I'm hoping that he and Banner are two totally different personalities.

I honestly LOVE Hulk in EMH. I love his little comments calling Thor Goldylocks and Hawkeye Cupid and having Hulk actualy feel like a character and not just an ever smashing monster that comes out of Banner. He does show signs of emotion and whatnot in TIH dont get me wrong, you just cant tell me its the same when you watch Avengers EMH.

I was hoping I'd get everyones opinions on this matter.

I too love Hulk's portrayal in EMHs, and I agree making Hulk purely a plot device sucks.

Both Ang's Hulk and Louis' The Incredible Hulk had a Hulk that had some level of intelligence, but those takes were pale in comparison with the Hulk from EMHs or any of the Hulk's incarnations that speak in the comic books.

Hah! He does have the McFarlane Hulk look too. Also he's a little like Adam Kubert's. Jorge Lucas and Carlos Pagulayan's Hulk renditions.

Gentlemen. ~tips hat~ 5150 here.

I posted there too once in a while too. I can't remember if I posted as Lord Smash'emall, PBuust or Gamma Ra...LOL What do you think of Hulk's new design for the Avengers movie Teach?

This is a Carlos Pagulayan image that looks close to the Avengers movie Hulk.

I always loved his Spiderman, but found his Hulk odd, he always looked lumpy to me, like he was riddled with tumors. Lol.

Good find Gamma and thanks for the message. I've been waiting for this kinda news for a while now. All that's left is to see how well the character motion flows.

You're a legendary poster, 5150.

Thanks, man!

I believe you were Gamma Ra there...but PBuust is ringing a bell, too.
Since you asked, here's what I posted on the News & Speculation thread, but it's so fast moving, it will probably get lost:

The Hulk image on the new banner reminds me of the Sideshow Premium Format Hulk statue that came out a few years ago. Maybe the artist used it as reference:

sideshowcompare.jpg

Everything from the gnarled fingers to the underbite and neanderthal brow seems to match up with the statue. Perhaps the artist had the statue sitting in front of him?

Here are my thoughts on the banner art. I like the face. But I don't like the over-exaggerated neanderthal brow. Also, ~if~ he has an underbite (which it kinda looks like he does) I hate that! Also, we can see the top of his ear. I think his hair should be a little longer and wilder (like it was in the 2008 TIH). While I am SO relieved that they gave him hair on the sides of his head, I think he needs more hair hanging down on his forehead (you see too much of his forehead). I like it when the Hulk has a few strands of hair hanging in front of his eyes, etc. Also, his sideburns seem neatly coiffed, instead of savage, wild and wooly!

I am relieved to see he has torn pants on (that look like they may be purple!!! Yeah!!). I'm glad he doesn't have those creepy spandex shorts on! I wish the tear of the pants was mid-calf (a la the Savage Hulk and the 2008 TIH).

So, basically, in a nutshell, he doesn't look like the 2008 movie version and there was no reason to change that design. If anything, the lack of continuity only distracts the audience further.

I'm assuming that a work of art as large as that banner had to be started a long time ago...perhaps (hopefully) the art on the action figure card (the larger-than-life one that you could get your picture taken inside of at SDCC) is closer to what we'll get in the movie.

I realize that it was just one single piece of art, so I'm only commenting on that piece, knowing that he may look different in the movie.

For your consideration, here are some elements I was referencing in the 2008 movie:

Thanks and you're welcome.

The picture is only an artist rendition of the Hulk from I suppose the concept art. I want to see what the cgi version of it will look like too.

Thanks.

And as always, you have a keen eye and you bring up a lot of practical points.

I agree with you Art Teacher, I would have preferred to see TIH's Hulk in the Avengers or atleast a Hulk design that was very similar.

It would be better for continuity reasons, plus I think TIH's Hulk design is ALOT better than the Hulk on the new Avengers poster.

Agreed Teach....even though Kirby was the original, he wasn't the definitive. His Hulk just doesn't connect with me.

I think one of the more enduring aspects of the Hulk is the many facets of his character, in terms of visually, mentally & psychologically.

While I can respect those that enjoyed TIH, and that particular design, I can't contain my excitement for this new version, IF, that's in fact what we get. To me, TIH didn't look so much like a monster, as opposed to a very pissed off human, which is ironic because most people that liked TIH design disliked Ang's Hulk for seemingly looking "too human."

Which I believe is false, he just resembled his alter-ego counterpart, but his proportions and bone structure were decidedly more monstrous than what we got in '08. Either way, I just want the F/X to deliver, especially with respect to integration, which is something else I feel TIH failed at.

So, is anyone a little disheartened to see that Hulk doesn't have anything from TIH in his background? I at least thought they would throw Abom in there and maybe even Ross. But nothing?

I'm getting worried that they're trying to sweep TIH under the rug...

I'm always going to be disappointed about it ..... but it's reality and Feige isn't going to go out of his way to promote Norton's previous work. The whole thing just stands out like a bad toupee.

Yeah I am too. I think TIH is still the weakest of the Marvel films, but I don't want to look back on everything post-Avengers and have TIH be this weird entry that didn't really matter.

Yeah, it's sad... I think they are slightly trying to sweep TIH under the rug too... I think mainly because they couldn't get Norton back and he wanted to mess with the script and probably asked for too much money and TIH didn't make that much at the box office... sad but true... hopefully I'll still like Mark's interpretation of Banner...

He wanted to mess with The Avengers script? Pure speculation.

I think Ruffalo will be the biggest surprise in the movie, actually. He's going to be a kick ass Banner IMO.

Norton wasn't anything special. Great actor, but a mediocre performance.
