He wanted to mess with The Avengers script? Pure speculation.

I believe he rewrote most of TIH and I think that it was rumored (at least) he wanted to help write the avengers... I think that was what all the fuss was about... but I don't know for sure...

Yeah, it's sad... I think they are slightly trying to sweep TIH under the rug too... I think mainly because they couldn't get Norton back and he wanted to mess with the script and probably asked for too much money and TIH didn't make that much at the box office... sad but true... hopefully I'll still like Mark's interpretation of Banner...

It is too bad because TIH could have started a strong foundation, in the end where Banner was able to control the Hulk would have been a nice lead on into Avengers and we could be getting a talking Hulk.

Here's to hoping they don't start off from stratch, also hoping Ross isn't in the Avengers

Re-writing the Avengers is nonsense. That never happened.

As for TIH, they came to him to have him play Banner. He read the script and decided it needed re-writes otherwise he didn't want the part. Marvel green lighted that. How can you blame him? If I was an actor and I thought the script was awful, I would probably do the same thing if I had some screenplay talents. Norton is no slouch ya know. The messed up part is that some guys at Marvel renegged on that promise to Norton, by leaving many of the dramatic elements on the cutting room floor. What I really don't understand now that I saw Cap, is why the attempted suicide scene wasn't allowed in there.

I high doubt Norton is going to look a Joss Whedon's work and have the same distaste as he did for Zak Penn's Hulk.

I used to post there too under the same name, I know its off topic but what happened to Hulkspace?

IIRC they stopped moderating it and the place got flooded with porn bots. Somebody made an alternate forum site but it never caught on.

Also: Good call on that statue, ArtTeacher. That weird hand makes a lot more sense now.

Personally, I have no desire to see the Hulk controlled by Loki in this film for any duration.

I think what the Hulk Character needs right now is a way of separating himself from what most of the GA have been used to seeing him as due to the interpretation of his character in recent films, and that is more menace/liability than a force for good.

I'm pretty confident that if any physical altercations happen between the Hulk and the Avengers, it'll be at the beginning and only because of a misunderstanding.

I see things happening where the Avengers and SHIELD try to locate and recruit Banner, only for things to go sour, which causes the Hulk to appear and due to the Hulk's experiences of always being chased by militaristic forces, he would attack first before asking any questions.

Quite frankly, I want to see the Hulk portrayed as the misunderstood hero that he is.lol

The main thing they may need to get across is that most of the time, the Hulk's rampages are usually founded in reacting to something negative that was thrust on him or someone he considers a friend. The entire WWH thing was an example of it on a massive scale, overkill it may have been.

This has been on my mind for a while now and am really wondering how The Avengers movie is going handle the Hulk.

Are we going to get a 90/10 Hulk to Banner like we do in Avengers EMH or are we going to get the 70/30 Banner to Hulk like in TIH.

With that being said, are we going to give Hulk actual lines and speak, or is he going to just be the bashing ogor that we've all come to love.

I honestly LOVE Hulk in EMH. I love his little comments calling Thor Goldylocks and Hawkeye Cupid and having Hulk actualy feel like a character and not just an ever smashing monster that comes out of Banner. He does show signs of emotion and whatnot in TIH dont get me wrong, you just cant tell me its the same when you watch Avengers EMH.

I was hoping I'd get everyones opinions on this matter.

I agree 100%

That's one of the things I love about EMH interoperation, Hulk has more humanity and a sense of humor. I really hope we get this in the Avengers film. Finally we have a version of The Hulk that isn't just a ball of raging fury that lacks intelligent and only says "HULK SMASH", "HULK IS STRONGEST THERE IS."

Loki isn't really into mind control. As far as Asgardians are concerned, that's more like the Enchantress power. Also, mind control usually doen't work on the Hulk too well.

Loki is a trickster so I expect him to 'trick' the heroes into fighting each other.

Did anyone else notice that in the scene in the Captain America movie where Steve Rogers gets the Super Soldier Serum pumped in him while laying in the machine, he makes a similar expression with the eyes that Norton's Banner makes when he changes to Hulk on Sterns' lab table? It gave me chills.

Well that deleted scene had Cap's body frozen in a block of ice, while the movie had him in Skull's ship. I'm glad they cut that part out personally. I mean, leave the suicide in, but take out the Cap easter egg. I do wish they had left some of the more dramatic moments in, like Banner's talk with Doc Samson by the fireplace that was in the first trailer.

I think what happened was Marvel was over-reacting to criticism of Ang's version being too slow and cerebral, so they wanted a tighter script with more action beats and less time for introspection.

At the end of the day, I think both parties are equally to blame for Norton not coming back. Obviously Marvel has more to lose because this isn't just a recast like Rhodey in Iron Man. Norton was meant to be as big a headliner as RDJ.

Exactly, and this will be an issue for Man of Steel too. The other issue also, was that the movies were only separated by 5 years (another fact MoS will share). If TIH came out this yr, as opposed to '08, they may have been more receptive to the slower aspects of the character.

With the films being so close together, Hulk was still associated with the more cerebral approach of Ang, so they did everything possible to differentiate, IMO, to the detriment of the story as a whole. Nothing on the DVD felt so heavy that it would have weighed down the whole ordeal, I don't really fault Norton for not wanting to be involved TBH.

As far as continuity goes; even though we don't have Ed Norton or the same Hulk Design anymore, there are A LOT of things that were presented in TIH that were directly influenced from the other MCU films.

1. I'm starting to think that the Prototype of the Super Soldier Serum that General Ross had were created as a result from scientists studying the blood samples taken from Steve after Dr. Erskine was killed.

2. Wasn't it stated somewhere that Jane Foster and Erik Selvig are from Culver University, the same place that Bruce and Betty worked at?

3. Stark went as a consultant for SHIELD to talk to General Ross and had knowledge of the Super Soldier Project.

Just saw the poster.

I'm sorry, but this Hulk design is probably the best comic book to movie look I have ever seen. I am in awe at how perfect the classic 60's hulk translated to real life.

I have to agree with you.

I honestly wonder on how tall the Hulk is going to be in this film? As a student filmmaker, I'm curious to see as to how they'll have everyone interacting with Mark when he has to play the Hulk.

I really hope Betty's in this, and have the villain hurt her or something... I want Hulk to go mental and smash the bad guy to pieces.

I really hope The Hulk fight sequence are as good or even better than The Incredible Hulk and hopeful Willaim Hurt reprises his role as General Ross.

Although I liked the Ang Lee version less, I thought Sam Elliot was the better "Thunderbolt"

Norton would've been a huge draw in this, much to the degree RDJ is.

Norton's a great actor & maybe he's a big draw as a headliner (unlike Ruffalo) but I don't think of Banner when I see him onscreen the way I see Stark with RDJ or Thor with Hemsworth. (Cap not out here yet)

That's unfortunate because I do.
