Right, the chill factor is missing. There was never one time in the show where the change seemed bleh. What made it Bixby Good was Bixby's acting, Harnell's perfect music score for the scenes and that haunting hum as he changed.
Defiitely memorable stuff.
Isn't the "Bixby" in "Bixby Good" in Bixby's case a bit redundant? It's not like there was someone else named, say, John Bixby who already set a Bixby standard that Bill Bixby was able to live up to with his performance. Bill set the standard himself.
But yes, I agree there was never a time that the transformation was boring. In fact, I'm of the opinion that as the show progressed, particularly getting towards "The First", that each transformation started becoming even more tension filled so that you were literally on the edge of your seat by the time it came round. It was like a pressure cooker that was constantly building. That's what I want in The Avengers with Ruffalo's performance. Every scene with Banner should have this cloud of tension over it because you never know when he could lose it and Hulk out. That's even how all the other Avengers should be around him and should be walking on eggshells.
