It's not about screen time for me, it's about execution. I already feel like we're only going to get two big Hulk sequences, which would be fine with me.

I think, probably, the Hulk will be the Avengers first adversary, and seeing as how that was the catalyst for the initial Avengers team & the Ultimates (which they seem to be using quite a bit from) I see no issue with this.

Then, I think he'll redeem himself and help save them at the end. Executed properly, Banner/Hulk could be one of the few characters with a meaningful arc in this whole film.

Read my edit ..... You're not comparing apples to oranges when it comes to LOTR and The Avengers, especially as far as where the money is going to go.

King Kong is a much better comparison in terms of size of the rendered character and that movie cost double of LOTR ..... not to mention didn't have other superheros who will require VFX .... a helicarrier ... a quinjet .... the baddies that we all can assume Loki is going to conjure up with the cube .... etc etc.

I'm pretty certain Whedon will have Hulk get in a few classic quips, but we're not going to be seeing serious dialogue from him IMO. They've got to allocate for the action scenes they're gonna need him in.

just saw the edit. king kong may be a good comparison for size but im not talking about that. i used gollum because i am talking about the ability to make a cg character act and speak with real people not just what we got in TIH. i don't need to see more banner in the avengers save that for a hulk movie. in the avengers i want to see the hulk. besides with the recast it would be better to just show more hulk than banner.

I brought King Kong up because you attempted to compare the budget of LOTR and how they did Gollum to what they should do with Hulk in the Avengers ..... assuming that because the Avengers budget is almost twice that, we'd somehow get a lot of speaking scenes with Hulk, to the degree Gollum had them. It's just not the case when you look at what they're budgeting for. Gollum was done in-house at Jackson's WETA so he didn't have to pay all that licensing crap. He obviously gets a discount for his own movie since it's his VFX company. It's also cheaper to render Gollum as compared to, King Kong who is much closer in size to Hulk.

I don't think Whedon is the kind of guy to continue in the direction of the nearly muted Hulk though. But, cost-wise I highly doubt way you'll get the Gollum level of dialogue. People in the audience (outside of comic fans) are going to want to see Hulk beat some backside, which is where I guarantee in typical fashion we'll get most of his appearances. They've got Banner to do all the talking. Hearing him call Thor "Goldie Locks" or some other fun liners could easily be fit.

ive said what i wanted about the hulk im looking for, seems we just don't see eye to eye. it was fun, thanks for not getting childish or into insults. this was a real fun back and forth. i guess all i can do is wait and see what hulk we get.

I actually think we will have at least 3 "Hulkouts". Whedon seems to have been epic and ambitious with the script and action.

I don't think Whedon would be dumb enough to not have a Thor v Hulk fight

Agree. I'll bet that was near the top of his "make sure its in the script and if its not put it in there, if so then make it more bad***" list. :woot:

So...design asside (Baring in mind the avengers posters are 'concept' artworks, even I.M in his Mk7 suit has a circular arc reactor apposed to his new Mk6 Trianglular one) WILL or DOES T.I.Hulk lead in to The Avengers next year, will the storyline from TIH continue within The Avengers? Just re-watched TIH, IM and IM2, in TIH there's a lot of SHIELD and Stark references. I just hope its continuing TIH story line, thought it was very good!

I'm kind of hoping that we get to see a proper meeting between the Hulk and Banner personas on screen.

I mean, it'd be a great character arc for Banner to finally face up to his inner demons and confront the Hulk, while another great possibility for the Hulk to willingly decide to put his abilities to more productive uses like he did in the EMH cartoons.

as long as we see Thor vs hulk in this movie i will be happy!!
This is just my guess but the last scene in the trailer is thor throwing his hammer in a wooded area at night wich looks the same as the area Banners cabin seems to be wich is also at night when we see the Green burst so im guessing that thor is throwing the hammer at hulk

Kevin Feige on The Hulk in The Avengers

GB: Will we see anything substantially different in the visual realization of the Hulk?

KF: Well, I don’t know about substantially different. It will be as different as ”The Incredible Hulk” was from Ang Lee’s “Hulk” in terms of its look and design, but it is Hulk. The image we released on the last day of Comic-Con — which got a tremendous amount of attention and I was very pleased about — is a very good representation of what he’s going to look like. Hulk is Hulk. We’re not going to reinvent the wheel.

GB: How big will he be? That’s been a major variable through the years in the comics and the two films as well.

KF: He’ll be about the same size he was in “The Incredible Hulk” [which was about 9 feet tall] or maybe a little bit smaller. His muscles won’t be quite as cut. We figure he’s been the Hulk now for a few years and [his physique is changing]. He’s not as cut or as ripped as he was in “The Incredible Hulk.” The most important thing is that face. As you can already see in that concept painting, it is — more than any Hulk that’s ever been done in live action — a Hulk that let’s you see the actor in there. You will be able to see Ruffalo in there. That was a big revelation for us. It’s just a concept painting, but in that you can see the [influence of Marvel Comics pioneer and original Hulk artist Jack] Kirby, as people have already pointed out, but also, and equally important in this case, Ruffalo’s eyes and his cheek structure. It is him.

GB: That sounds like a very different philosophy than the approach you took on Louis Letterrier’s movie.

KF: It is. It was something we actively avoided before. Hulk was Hulk, he’s not any one actor and Hulk should look like Hulk. It was like Iron Man’s armor, in a way, it wouldn’t change depending on the actor wearing it. But we’ve taken a different approach because Hulk is Banner and, frankly, we came to question our approach. Why are we not doing it this way? So we did a few designs that put Ruffalo into it, and we immediately saw how much more you feel for the creature. When you keep that connection going between Banner and the Hulk and you have characters around him trying to reach Banner inside — “Bruce, calm down,” and all of that classic Hulk stuff — it means more if you see the same actor throughout. I think before it was something we thought might look silly. We were nervous about getting it good enough [via visual effects] to work. Frankly, it was the same way we were nervous early on about making Steve Rogers skinny for “Captain America.” Is this going to look disturbing? Is this going to look silly? In the end, we got that one right. We’re going to get this one right.

Like the idea of making him a little bit smaller over-all. TIH's size was a major improvement over the 2003 movie but I still thought he was a foot or so too tall. Dialing back on the ripped look is also good. He tended to look like a big green Bruce Lee in TIH. Basically I like how he looks in that picture. If that is acurate and he's maybe 7ft tall or so then this gets a  from me.

The thing they got most right with his look in TIH was his skin color, so I hope that stays the same.

This is 100% better than any Hulk before it! All the Kirby aspects are there in the face, like they should have been all along. The color is great, the body mass feels right [from what we can see] - it's all a major step in the right direction.

Just hope his internal character is as right as that picture.

I like an 8-9 foot Hulk personally, 8.5 as a good compromise. He doesn't seem way out of scale with others but still towers over them, as he should. If he were only 7 ft he would be barely taller than Hemsworth, albeit much wider.

That will count for alot, actually. It's that he's so much bigger, not just taller. A 7.5ft Hulk would suit me just fine. But I do think he should be short enough to fully be able to stand up in any room that any of the other characters are in(as I understand it, standard ceilings are around 8ft high on average) without his head going through the ceiling.

Has Hulk been eating pizza & sitting on his ass since TIH?

I hope it just means he won't have the Bruce Lee/0% bodyfat look that he had in TIH.

Feige's comments about the Hulk not being ripped in Avengers, cause he's been the Hulk for two years now is b.s. What the Hulk needs to work out at the gym now to stay ripped? That's B.S Feige!

I like that look but I can understand if not everyone does. Look aside though I find Feige's logic a bit difficult to follow! :woot:

Hulk's look subtley changes in the comics every time he gets a new artist to draw him. They also have the explaination in the comics that his look is different depending on which personality it is. I hope the time factor he mentions is more regarding how his look changes as his mind changes.
