Traditionally, comic book artists never tried to make the Hulk look like Banner.

I was going to mention the same thing.

I think the only one that did, in my opinion, was probably my favorite Hulk artist, Sal Buscema.

I can't praise this Hulk enough. It will be an amazing experience watching him in 23 days.

Hulk resembling Banner is kind of the movieverse's way of grounding it in reality in a sense. He's still the same man, only big and green. In real life, that is technically how it would look.

I agree that it works for the movie and none comic book fans. I don't mind it so much that Hulk looks like an exaggerated Banner although I believe they should have exaggerated the face just a slight bit more...but I'm not complaining.

Just curious to get some folks’ opinion on this but:

Seeing as how the version of Bruce Banner/Hulk is turning out to be somewhat very different from what we saw of Norton’s version in The Incredible Hulk, along with the fact that it’s like the one film that probably didn’t perform and receive praise as the other MCU films have done, do you guys think that it would have been better to recton the events of The Incredible Hulk entirely from the MCU and say that Mark’s version is a new one from the get go so that his version wouldn’t be as tied down to the continuity established of the character from the previous film?

Honestly, my belief is that Marvel should have waited on making their solo Hulk film instead of having released it alongside Iron Man 1, and that they should have released a Hulk film AFTER Iron Man 2, back when they had screenplays and solid story ideas/ground plan as to what the other solo films featuring Thor and Captain America would be like in order to better connect Hulk’s film with every one else’s.

Thoughts?

I'll reserve judgement as to whether they should have rebooted Hulk's part in this movie after I see their explanations and conclusions of any possible changes.

It wasn't necessary to wait to do Hulk's reboot at the time of IM #1. What was necessary was getting the right script and director that would have bought to us all the incredibleness that the Hulk is...like what we've seen in the trailers so far. But the biggest problem with the Hulk's franchise...IMO... and any disconnect with the audience, is because Hulk has been for the most part a none verbal voiceless monstrosity. A character closer to his 616 comic book versions...pick one...would have RULED!!!

Yeah, Hulk barely talking has always been a major issue for me. Regardless of his incarnation, Hulk has always spoken in some capacity, and to reduce him to a roaring brute is robbing the character of a chance to connect with the audience. '03 Hulk I can forgive...that Hulk was played out like a newborn...almost like Banner's inner child. '08 Hulk had seemingly been around for awhile, so it didn't make much sense for him to barely have speaking lines. It looks like Avengers Hulk will make up for both instances.

Exactly, and being that Sal is the holy grail for me, I tend to like my Hulk to keep the same skull as Banner.

If anything, I’d say that the real biggest different between the two versions is that Mark’s Bruce is seemingly more active in helping people whereas Norton’s Banner was more reactive.

I like that, from a story perspective. In TIH here's a man pained with the guilt of potentially harming a loved one, and lives in constant fear of himself and his surroundings. Hunting for cure after cure, fleeing for his life, and living in terror due to the unpredictable nature of his alter ego. The "active" Banner in Avenger's isn't too much of a departure. Banner does want to do good by the world, and that good is ridding of it of the Hulk. By the end of the flick he realizes that this possibility might be out of reach, but that the monster could possibly be controlled (hence throwing himself out of a helicopter on a gamble).

Obviously by that point he'd probably give up on the cure front (after all, look at what his hunt for one did) and utilize it as a way to protect himself (notice the swagger Ruffalo's banner seems to have when he tells Black Widow to shove it?) as well as a way to help whomever he can in the process. I'd imagine it's still not something he's completely comfortable with, but makes the best out of a bad situation.

I'm diggin' it.

Now that's Hulk,Yeah the face is Rufallo But as many other have said..The body is a more defined version of'03's Hulk while the type of green&muscles is TIH's!!

Look closely in most shots of Hulk and it's indeed pretty much Jack Kirby's Hulk!
