Long shot here, but I think Jonny Lee Miller would make a solid Joker. I think he has to chops to pull off a pretty intense portrayal.

Walton Goggins.

8 years was enough time to go from Clooney to Bale, and Schumacher to Nolan. As great as Ledger was, I don't think audiences are averse to a newcomer coming along. Especially if he's great in his own right.
People love that Joker.
He'd be awesome as the Joker opposite Ben Affleck's BatmanWillem Dafoe is like 105 years old.
We've seen him as a fantastical terrorist in Batman 89 and as a rogue mobster in TDK.
Lazy choice, but how about Andrew Scott?![]()
But I think it's too soon, even if it'll be 8 years by the time the movie comes out.
I'm sure I saw this around here somewhere...but thinking about his acting style, his voice, and his presence, he would be a very good fit:

Especially in the below picture, he's almost the spitting image of the Joker from the AA and AC games:

David Bowie is a very inspired, interesting choice.
Shia LaBeouf for The Joker? C'mon now.
Adrien Brody is a pretty cool suggestion though.
Tilda Swinton.
