"Held in a secret facility against their will, five young geniuses have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the difficulties of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves."

"We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the Fantastic Four universe. There are no costumes - just containment suits. There are no supervillains - just one colleague who has lost his way. We’re trying to do something very, very different."

Didn't Josh Trank say Fant4stic would be a body horror David Cronenberg movie?

It was and then they coincidentally skipped any more that could've been a la timejump.

"Held in a secret facility against his will, one self-proclaimed film genius and his dogs have to battle the dangers of being given too much power, as well as the difficulties of relying on his one-and-only past movie. He isn’t out to save the world — he's just trying to save his reputation."

"I am caught up in a fully-fledged horror movie on the set of the Fantastic Four Fox universe. There are no windows here in this "apartment" - just screensavers. There are no supervillains - just one colleague who has lost his way named Simon Kinberg. I'm trying to do something very, very different from my last movie named Chronicle."

@sinKEVitch

Bill Sienkiewicz

That should read "BOO!" (with exclamation point, not 'Boo' as a negative.) I'm 100% behind what Josh Boone is doing.

Bill Sienkiewicz just doesnt get xmen.

While I can understand why some of you are looking at the similarity of Boone's plot detail to Trank's as a reason to sharpen your pitchforks, we also have to remember that at least we know Boone is adapting the Demon Bear arc. Anyone who actually read it can totally see how it can be adapted to a psychological horror format. You'd think after Logan, Deadpool, and Legion people would be a little patient with this one.

I never read the Demon Bear arc. I don't care about the Demon Bear arc. I have no interest in New Mutants. I won't see the New Mutants movie. That was true a week ago, that's true today, and that will be true 3 years from now.

But funny is funny. And the fact that those quotes could have been applied to Fant4stic while at the same time claiming to be "very, very different" is funny.

:funny:

You all could be wrong about New Mutants - it could turn out to be more like Split than F4 - plus it's got Anya Taylor from Split - I can't wait to see her on screen again!

This! I don't want to see Logan or Legion and DP gets way too much hype.

Don't even know what a Demon Bear is but I'd sooner watch the Berenstain Bears (as long as Fox or Sony aren't rebooting it with an R rating)

See now you guys are just complaining about Fox adapting properties you have no interest in.

I will say this could work for New Mutants better then it worked for the FF, because they are too different animals.

Logan is a great film, but that style would not work with the FF.

Fox's darker, more realistic can work with the X-Men, because it is darker property that often deals with social issues, the FF are by their nature fantastical, so Fox's tricks don't work well with them.

Yeah, I'm fine with New Mutants being a YA adaptation that is not geared toward folks of a (ahem) certain age. As we are heading further into the deep forest of "Prime Superhero" there is going to be an awful lot of product - including The Gifted, Cloak & Dagger, Runaways, and New Mutants - that won't appeal to old fogies that that want their heroes in costumes and prefer inter-squad punching over inter-squad smooching. It makes sense to bring new fans into the fold even if I won't be watching.

.

As long as they're not continuing to screw FF, I don't care what they do. But I'll laugh when they do funny things like this. If it were FF, I wouldn't be laughing, but as long as it's something I don't care about, I'm going to just laugh when I see Fox being Fox or Kinberg being Kinberg. :woot:

I wonder what would have to happen for Marvel to get the X-Men rights back. I know it won't be anytime soon and possibly ever, but anyone have any guesses?

The Mouse would have to cut FOX a check. Probably for a billion or so.

Are you being facetious, or do you think that's what it'd actually take? I've often thought the exact same thing, so I don't necessarily disagree with you....

I think a billion or so would get it done. I figure the X-Men franchise generates about $100M or so a year in profits when you average the Deadpool and Logans with the Apocalypses and the years without X-films. 10 years of profits upfront would be a strong bid.

What is everyone's estimation for Marvel getting the rights back? (If you don't believe they have them already).
I think they'll get them back earlier than the reversion date, because Fox isn't going to make another one and they would be stupid to not sell them back to make at least some profit.

I say around 2019.

Also, if when they get back to Marvel, it needs to be a visual spectacle. I just saw Mad Max: Fury road again and the way the colours popped on screen would look amazing for the FF. Especially when you add that to imaginative locations they go to. I also really want to see the Kirby Krackle translated to the big screen.

I agree, I think I'd set the over/under at 2019. At that point, Fox will concede that they have no intention of green-lighting a film, and they'll accept any small, symbolic face-saving offer Marvel is willing to make.

Probably means nothing, but if you look very closely at the Epic Collection line on the Comic shelf from inside Marvel Studios, you can see some featuring characters that aren't owned by Marvel, or only partially owned, like Spider-Man (Grey/Silver=Silver Surfer, Red=Spidey, Beige/Orange towards the end =Wolverine). You can even see a few Fantastic Four volumes in the middle:

Possibly, but it also depends on whether Marvel is willing to actually fork out the cash themselves. If it's true that Fox are absolutely dead-set against making another film, then Marvel are more likely just waiting until the reversion deadline in 2022 so that they can get them for free.

Disney are basically running the film industry, they shouldn't be worried about the cost of the rights. Especially considering that these rights can easily sustain an entire phase on their own.

So no Spider-Woman in Marvel Cinema universe? Jessica Drew and Julia Carpenter have no ties to Spider-Man(Peter Parker) at all. How can Sony have the rights to these characters & not Marvel Studios?

If I remember the Sony leaks said that Jessica Drew was shared with Marvel (although Marvel can't use the Spider-Man elements). As for some of the other stuff Dominic Fortune was in the pilot for "Marvel's Most Wanted" and Roxon has been used in a few MCU things if I remember.

Roxxon was used in MCU movies, AOS and Netflix series.
