The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 10

Hypothetical:

If the Venom movie is a tremendous success, and it captures the spirit of the character, like Deadpool, what are the chances of Marvel Studios simply adopting Tom Hardy into the MCU? It would be hella sweet to see Tom Hardy as Venom take on Hulk or potentially Spider-Man in a later sequel (Spider-Man Homecoming 4: after college)

From what I understood Sony had no b intention of bringing it to the MCU and they even eventually want SM back.

Sony would have to approve of such a move. And why would they if they prove to be successful on their own. They wouldnt need Marvel anymore.

If half the stuff I've read is true Sony is biting the proverbial hand feeding them.

Not surprised tbh with the likes of Arid & Rothman behind the scenes.

Sony isnt foolin anybody. It was always their intention to carry with this plan. Use Marvel status to reverse Spideys downward spiral while planning the side Sony verse. If all goes well pull Spidey back after 2019. It will backfire

That's going to be interesting to see Rothman & Arad attempt to reboot Spidey for a fourth time, stripped of his ties to the greater Marvel Universe and with an all new cast (I doubt Holland would remain on board). I'm sure it will go as swimmingly as ASM2.

People will go see a Spidey movie, he has never not been popular. It may falter some, but it'll always be a frontload.

But would they for a Venom movie? Or for Black Cat and Silver Sable? I doubt Sony has learned their lesson.

We should be glad that none of Sony's doomed-to-fail garbage is making into the MCU. Keep it separate, let it all fall to pieces and then Marvel can step in and regain the rights fully.

Hardy's a great actor, I know, but I doubt even he can save this movie, which the studio will likely meddle with and which Avi Arad is commissioning just to make money and sell toys. Trust me, that's all he cares about.

Bingo! Which is why as F4 fans who wants everything to revert back we should pay close attention to this Sony/Marvel deal as well act accordingly. Meaning that we should all support Homecoming while nixing all of Sony's other projects especially the non-MCU Venom and Black Cat spin-off nonsense!

This will give leverage to Marvel Studios while putting Sony on notice. It will also notify Fox (whose surely watching to) not to get any bright ideas on death gripping the Fantastic Four's rights (if they still have them). The same with X-men which is known for taking 1 step forward and 2 steps backward. And that "rated R" crap means nothing to me.

I'm about as interested in a Venom movie as I was in Suicide Squad - which is not much. I haven't seen that yet.

It warms my heart to see many people finally realize how horrible and one sided that 2015 Spiderman deal was.

The Mouse would have to cut FOX a check. Probably for a billion or so.

That's what I thought Dis/Marvel was giving Sony, through backpays. A trilogy movie set in the MCU (150-250+MM profit per movie, all to Sony). A trilogy animated movie with Miles Morales (60-120+MM profit per movie all to Sony). 2-3 exclusive video games for the PS4 (50-100+MM profit). Guaranteed pay of 1B or more (that is if profits were less than 1B by those alone, Disney would cut a check to make it equal 1B, otherwise, Sony would get whatever it made). Basically a deal similar to the one they made with Paramount.

Btw, people here really underestimate how big the SM exclusive game from a AAA developer is for Sony. It will not only sell extremely well, it will sell consoles. A comparable game by a comparable developer is Batman Arkham series. Games in that series have sold over 5+ million each and it inevitably sells consoles, which is one of the main sony pillars according to Kaz Hirai, their president.

Disney will never cut a check that big for an IP they mainly already own. Shareholders will throw a fit, I know I would. Backpay deal is different though.

You are not missing much, that film is not very good.

Hey Willie, besides the FF, what franchises do you enjoy? Even though the FF has never gotten a good film, have other heroes you liked faired better?

Well The Hulk was my second favorite, so I've had some good Hulk moments (though not a great Hulk story).

Beyond that, it's FF related characters like Black Panther, Inhumans and Silver Surfer, so Black Panther is looking promising. The others not so much.

.

Unfortunately, some things are pointing to you possibly being right.
At least the latest news of Sony recently having gained access to Jessica Drew are not a good sign.

Yeah a real "one-sided deal" in the sense that Disney was able to negotiate five film access to a character they previously had no control over...for free. Backpays? These are deductions from PROFIT, people. To say that Disney lose out on a deal like this is like saying a grocery store is failing cause they are still paying to lease a building. Do you guys honestly think Disney is losing money from the Spider-Man deal?

And it's not like these terrible Venom and SableCat films would NOT be made without the MCU deal. They just would have happened sooner, and they would have had Garfield instead of Holland AND we never would have Spider-Man in Civil War or Infinity War...is that better than what we've gotten?

Don't bite the hand that feeds!

It's not that one-sided considering Disney still controls all the merchandise and TV animation rights for Spider-Man and they get to profit off of using the character in the movies.

Venom for me seems like something that could go either way, the character perhaps doesn't have massive innate draw but I cans ee a film with a strong buzz doing well.

Yup, and those makes them far more money than the films will ever make Sony.

One reason Marvel entered into the agreement with Sony was so that they could make the Spider-Man films of high quality again because better films drive up interest in merchandise. Of course, Feige and co. longed for the chance to tell Peter Parker's story in the MCU, as well. But improving the hero's standing with the public naturally has a positive effect on his already incredible marketability.

On a totally unrelated note, Amazon is having a sale of Kindle editions of Marvel comics collections and graphic novels. The prices are $.80 to $4.00. In addition to that, they are offering a free trial month of Comixology Unlimited, which lets one read most of those works online. I snapped up a bunch of old favorites on the cheap and got a free comic as a bonus. Plus I signed up for Unlimited. Now I'm re-reading the original Secret Wars and reliving the thrill of The Wasp's hook-up with Magneto. Good times!

I overindulged and bought 25 trade paperbacks, including 3 from Hickman's FF run, before cutting myself off. Amazon, Comixology and the Marvel App are great for the lapsed comic reader considering getting back in the habit. Over the past few years I have amassed a digital collection comparable in size to the physical versions I purchased back in the spinner rack days. And since I only buy heavily discounted versions, like in the Amazon sale, my per comic payment is about what I used to pay many moons ago.
