Since the buyer is undisclosed, it's not crazy to think Disney could have snapped up those shares.
What I was wondering too.Since the buyer is undisclosed, it's not crazy to think Disney could have snapped up those shares.
Same. An X-men movie with a real Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey/Phoenix, Rogue, Colossus actually done right? That could kick the entire CB genre into an even higher gear from where it already is. I love the idea of a X-men team being done like Marvel did with Guardians of the Galaxy where every member gets to shine. Marvel even made a raccoon and a tree into popular characters.Yeah, Ive never been much of an X-men fan, and with the situation up until a few days ago, I never thought much about a Marvel X-Men.
But the idea that we coukd actually see the real X-Men on screen - big and bold and exciting and nothing like the watered down crap weve gotten from Fox - has me excited about the possibilities.
If this goes through, Marvel could always use Fox as their distributor for their R films. If they want to do an R-Rated Punisher or Ghost Rider etc. they could distribute those films through Fox and that would be the signal "This film may not be as kid-friendly as traditional Marvel films."

Soooo close![]()
t:Man, it would feel so good to be able to say things like "Disney bought those shares fair and square!" and "If it weren't for Disney, Murdoch and his sons wouldn't have as many voting rights, so revert back to Marvel!"t:

Hmmm...
I seem to be exhibiting a "do as I say, not as I do" sentiment.

Has anyone seen a stretching effect that doesn't look bad in a movie? The other FF movies and now the Flash have both done it, and it never looks good to me. It's very clear when a stiff prop is being used, and the CG looks strange. I'm not sure what it is, but I think it's the only super hero special effect that doesn't look good on film.
I'm not really excited yet. If it happens, I'll explode, but for now, I'm just waiting and hoping.

What if this means that the Netflix shows all get canceled?

And that all the merch for these characters goes away and the comics get canceled like what happened to the Fantastic Four?
It's not exactly a major, groundbreaking observation. IMHO it's hardly scintillating commentary for the WSJ to make such a statement. A young person could probably make the same observation as well. Considering how important Marvel Entertainment has been for Disney, and considering that X-Men is still a strong entertainment brand, and Fantastic Four has that potential as well. Yeah, you would think Disney has a vested interest in controlling all the film and TV rights for the properties they technically already own.
They will find a home. Disney has been working on its own streaming service, so the reason they may leave Netflix doesn't mean they are going to go nowhere at all.
I think any other publicly traded company has to be publicly forthcoming with any purchases especially in the case of purchasing voter shares of a rival.Since the buyer is undisclosed, it's not crazy to think Disney could have snapped up those shares.
I mean what if Netflix has a clause which prevents Marvel from relocating the shows elsewhere? If Disney can't migrate the shows, then Disney can put a freeze on anything related to the characters. Fans won't be happy but I can see this happening over DVD rights and access to earlier seasons.

Besides, money talks. I could see Netflix taking a payout from Disney to use to buy more original content.Marvel made deals with Fox and Sony originally from a position of weakness.
Disney/Marvel Studious made their deals with Netflix from a position of strength.
I don't see Disney giving anyone anything that would lock them out for any significant time that they know they can make money from.
Sure, that's a possibility. However given how red hot the news has been I think Disney would be issuing a press release very quickly. Then sitting back and watching the stocks skyrocket again.Within what time frame? I'm sure you're right, there would have to be disclosure at some point, but if the transaction just occurred, they probably have some time before they need to make that disclosure.
