Perfection.

They could just start with a closeup of his eye(s), pan out, then fade out. Done.

I was watching X2 last night, and couldn't but be reminded how they seemed to go out of their way to make a fool of Cyclops or just under utilize him. I remember years back being turned off by that, and by the constant use of Wolverine.

Yep that film it was it's worse sin was trying to tear him down so much. It wasn't just under development like Storm or Rogue (though both got an arc in that film, not him). The lengths they went to immaculate him were gross. Singers worst sin (edit: yes I see the irony in that statement).

They did show they were setting him up for more in the sequel and we all know that didn't happen. Still, even said all that, Singer put imo much more heart in the themes of the source material than Disney has yet (maybe ever could). It stems from their inability to be truly dark and be sincerely in that darkness without going meta. That is the part I want them to take from Fox's X-Men if/when they reboot.

That being said I think IW has glimmers of that tonal shift so credit where it's due.

Did we just become best friends LOL???? I LOVE the way you think...and throw in a crushing of his goblet while saying RICHARDS! with contempt and I may just need to be taken out on a stretcher LOL

That's what was so disappointing about Singer's run. Wolverine was so central that nobody had any time to really shine. Cyclops biggest contribution was just shooting Magneto in the back.

Biggest let down of the X series, other than the completely missed opportunity of having Colossus and Juggernaut in the same movie and not even having them meet.

With the Thanos reveal, I think half the audience wondered: “Who’s that?”, but I think even the casual fans will recognize Doom.

Well Thanos will probably get some recognition from those who remember him from GOTG (providing they recognise him from the changes), but Fantastic Four and Doom have been a part of the wider pop culture for decades. Even the first two Fox movies would probably give him more general recognition IMO.

edit: Genuine question, do you only agree with the Leo guy because he is on your "side" thinking Disney is perfect and shouldn't be challenged or criticized?

Thanos looked pretty bad like a painted purple Bruce Willis. :oldrazz:

What? No. I just agree with him on that. And you are crazy if you think Thanos's CGI is messed up. It darn near looks flawless.

Well i guess both Willie Lumpkin and me are crazy because it wasn't and I still think it left much to be desired and he agrees.

I think the thing that bothered me most was when he was speaking. The words and lips didn't seem to sync up and there was something unnatural about it. When I watched it with no sound, it looked and felt better.

Elements of the trailer came off as a little unfinished. With all of the leaks they had to put something together quickly to get ahead of it and control the momentum.

I wouldn't get too worked up for any of it. They'll touch it all up before it releases in May.

I thought Thanos looked great. Looks just like his brother Rick Thanos who owns a pawn shop in town:

I picked up Mjolnir real cheap but it was in pretty bad shape.

But yeah the dialogue was definitely not in sync - I don't think it was meant to - it was purely backdrop audio. Maybe an odd creative decision I dunno?

Maybe the words and lips didn't sync up because the dialogue came from another part of the movie and they just showed an image of Thanos for the purpose of that particular scene. That often happens with trailers. I don't think the dialogue necessarily will match with what we see here in the final cut but might come from somewhere completely different.

This is one of MANY Doom moments that needs to happen in the future after his own "homecoming" to the MCU...

Both Great Doom moments. I could see a moment like him brooding on the Throne being as part of his origin in a Fantastic Four movie, and then much later when they build up again to a Infinity War style spectacle film in the form of Secret Wars having him siphon the power of Galactus and then take on the Beyonder where a scene like that could reveal itself. Doom is awesome!

Yeah, he's shaping up to be possibly the baddest-ass comic book movie villain of all time, but as much as I'm looking forward to the movie and Thanos seems very promising, the trailer was marred for me slightly by a difficult-to-explain feeling that there was something 'off' related to the depiction of Thanos.

Yeah, I thought the words were more of a narration then coming from a specific individual shown on screen.

I saw this on Twitter this morning and have been meaning to repost here, but forgot until just now:

I might have to watch it again with that in mind. Maybe mixing and matching sound with what was happening was the thing that really felt 'off' to me.

Yeah, I just watched it again and it looks like he might not even be speaking in the part that was bothering me. It might just be a pure voiceover.

... so it seems the part that bothered me most was a simple matter of trailer editing and me not paying enough attention.

Most of it was trailer narration from other scenes, the only time the lines were synced with the image was for about half a second when he took the stone from Vision.

EDIT. See your post above.

Yeah, I think the only character that speaks in the trailer is Black Panther when he says someone get this man a shield. Other then that it all looked like voice over's to me.

Yeah, it looked like Thanos might have said the word "But" for a split second or so before it switched screens and then reverted back to the narration where it finished the sentence "this does put a smile on my face". I think we might be over analyzing it though, I am sure most people would not even notice it.

:funny:

It's really sort of funny in hindsight and interesting to think about the tricks my brain plays on me.

I watched it a couple times yesterday and those moments I thought showed Thanos speaking were really throwing me and making me feel like Thanos wasn't working.

Then this morning I watched it with no sound and it suddenly worked a lot better and the visuals on Thanos looked really good. I couldn't figure out why there was such a contrast with and without the sound, but it was the way my brain was perceiving the sound and assuming I was watching the scene in which he was actually speaking, and that didn't match up.

It's probably not an issue with people who aren't as dumb as me. :o
