The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - Part 13

I wouldn't wish Fant4stic on anyone, but as an FF fan, it's hard to feel sorry for anyone (and I'm not talking about Jaymes) who is upset about a potential deal because they think the quality and/or quantity of X-Men films might suffer.

The X-Men have had their share of movies which have been considered successful. The FF haven't had any yet.

The general audience might not even know the difference between the MCU and the X-Men universe. They don't consider the X-Men films, especially with Hugh Jackman or Patrick Stewart any less official.

And because Professor X was cast so iconically with Stewart, I don't think any actor who plays him in the MCU could match him.

I do NOT see Marvel Studios giving the mutants the shaft, I see them getting stories others could never touch.

I say the muties will show up first, then the FF.

Villians, I'm all for an MCU Hawley Doom film, and wonder, given the talks have been going a while, if the Marvel Studios logo will be on all next year's films anyway, by some early deal cut. I think the rush for flicks on Fox's part was both negotiation tactic and grab for last bits of cash on franchises they knew they were losing anyway.

One thing that Marvel could do if they got the X-Men back is put Beast in the Avengers. We've never had that yet, and it would be fresh instead of seeing the same old X-Men dynamics.

I'd like the more monkey-like Beast who hung out with Wonder Man.

I associate Beast just as much with the Avengers as with the X-Men.

Quicksilver can come back and the join along with Wanda

Fox may get 25% of Disney stocks?? Isn't that a big too much?? No wonder talks stalled; Disney would not be willing to handover such a large chunk...

I think Disney probably favours a cash transaction. 25 billion and done. But Murdoch wants stocks in Disney.

James Murdoch is no right-wing zealot like his father so i do not fear him being given a role in the Disney infrastructure. It'll probably be one of those financial posts anyways.

It'll probably come down to a cash/stock deal. I doubt very much as well that the board would allow Fox to get that much stock. IIRC, that would make Fox the largest shareholder.

Not going to happen. If there is ANY franchise that has Disney written all over it, it's the F4. If Disney had them instead of Avengers, trust me, they'd be the first to launch the MCU. No way Disney doesn't launch these guys asap.

 The moment Disney gets the F4, get ready for an explosion of merchandise. They are going to push them like there is no tomorrow.

Exactly! That is the ONE franchise I can see exploding under Disney, even more so that Spiderman..........and that speaks volumes.

Then book FF2 for 2022. No WAY on my view that they would miss the 60th anniversary of the FF and Marvel as Marvel.

The FF could be the live action version of the Incredibles.

In an all stock deal ALL FOX shareholders, voting and non voting, may get nearly 25% of Disney voting stock (the Mouse doesn't issue non voting shares). Most of those stock holders are institutional investors who already own shares in the Mouse. The Murdoch family own 39% of 21st Century Fox voting shares, which is a small % of the total shares outstanding. The Murdochs will end up with much less than 10% ownership of Disney.

Thinking what Brad Bird or James Gunn could do with the property...:drl:

There is ENORMOUS opportunity. If Disney pulls this off is a gigantic win for them. However if they can take it a step further and secure some rights back from Comcast in exchange for some of the properties from Fox, then that would be some serious magic.

To put things in perspective. The largest current shareholder of Disney is the estate of Steve Jobs who had 7%.

I doubt Disney would give up that huge amount of stock instead of cash. That 25% stake would be for the whole deal and no cash at all. The smart and likely only move for Fox is to go for both with the onus of the $$$: Get whatever Disney stock Iger might be willing to go with (and I can't see that being high at all. Maybe 5% at the most at a guess), and take a huge cheque.

I think Iger is currently the biggest Disney shareholder and he doesn't have close to 25%. He holds something like 7% I think (stand to be corrected, guestimating at my end). Steve jobs widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, was the previous highest shareholder (had 7.5% with 130 million shares) after Jobs got Disney stock for his big stake in Pixar. She has halved that since.

What the hey, let Taika have it. Unless the Russo's are willing to do it.

**** yes.

Give me my MCU FF film and give it to me now.

Make the flat iron building the Baxter building and make Avengers/Stark Tower Oscorp

That's interesting. I didn't think Steve Job's wife ever really got herself that involved. Otherwise, yes I don't see the Murdochs getting anywhere close to 25%. Thankfully the board and shareholders of that company are more or less pretty even.

Had not considered that Fox's stock is obviously spread among numerous investors as well. A stock trade at 25% would bring the Murdoch's personal share of that down considerably.

Thing getting me is who restarted talks, some say Dis, some say Fox, all cite the Bloomberg report almost verbatim.

So who is instigating it? And is it really for the whole shebang in entertainment creation, or just parts? I know the reports say all, but... reports can be wrong, or misinformed intentionally by one side or the other as a ploy in the negotiations.

I hope, I hope, I hope...

Damn it, I'm starting to get excited now.:chd:

It's going to happen. Most likely even before Infinity War comes out.

I am sure the deal is ahead and Disney want to keep it under wraps for now until the right time...SDCC 2018 or Marvel Event # 2...

When they announce the names of the films for Phase 4...SDCC 2018 is the best bet imho. Biggest stage possible.

With DCEU looking like it will eventually fold, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney bought DC from WB in the next decade and rebooted the DCU in the RIGHT way and eventually do a Marvel Vs DC crossover RIGHT.

I don't think Iger holds anywhere close to 7%. Dude would be listed in Forbes billionaire list if he held that much. And he's not. He's not even worth 1B, he doesn't even own 1% of the company.

The biggest individual shareholder of Disney is either George Lucas, Isaac Perlmutter, or Laurene Jobs. Jobs was a clear number 1 until she halved her shares earlier this year and now we don't know because if you own less than 5% you don't have to publicly declare it. Therefore we don't know if she divested more shares (or bought more). Likewise, we don't know - and have never known - if Lucas or Perlmutter have divested or bought more DIS shares.

Even the Mouse and Marvel couldn't prevent leaks that long.

This deal, if done, look for a major presser by both sides, joint maybe, and if the portion for ANH and the Marvel rights is separate, to prevent that from being canned by a nixed deal at SEC/DOJ, then Marvel and Lucas. That is your sign, a series of Press conferences announced, in rapid succession. Marvel/Lucas might just do a Webcast thing on it, to show off fast, and test the Disney streaming service platform, if ready.
