The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - - Part 14

Welcome to the forum, Power Cosmic (great username, by the way; I'm more into the X-Men side of things, as you can tell by mine, but we all have (had?) a common goal). You got here just in time!

Thank you! Oh, I'm very excited about the X-Universe coming to MCU too. Some of my favorite comics as a kid were uncanny x-men and new mutants. Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Havok, Sunspot, Cannonball, Magik, Wolfsbane are some favorites of mine to this day!

Man it is REALLY frustrating seeing all these articles and YouTube channels parroting the "Constantin owns the rights to FF" myth.

What is particularly galling to me is that when this gets done and the FF are inevitably part of the deal, all these sites that benefited from all their clickbaiting will simply claim that Disney must have worked something out with Constantin before the deal was finalized.

*Bangs head against the wall repeatedly*

I am now thoroughly convinced that this is only going down due to Improbability Waves that now resonate, over a year later, pulsing out from the Cubs winning the World Series.

That, or the world is about to end. Wait, Cubs won.... that is one of the true signs.... quick, get us our movie before Hela comes to collect us!

I certainly think that the space race story would still fit, infact it probably fits better today than it has any time since the 60s with the privatisation of space being worth billions.

I was thinking about the Kirby esthetic of Reed's tech and I did wonder it it could be done by having Reed be someone tends to look at things differently because he is just that smart. Someone that could cobble together tech that would leave people wondering how it could work. So one day he would strip the answer machine because he needed to borrow parts and the next day rebuilds it using an espresso machine. Just as happy with a tablet as stuff right out of a Jules Verne story. It would open up his tech to looking pretty weird at times.

You make Reed sound like MacGyver. But that's probably what he needs to be a bit like.

I see more Doc Savage than MacGyver.

Well I've said that before too, but also Indiana Jones. But he could be like MacGyver in the way he could improvise his way out of anything using any tech.

In Feige I trust.

There are an infinite number of ways they can do the FF, but based on what Marvel has done with their other characters, I trust that they will look at the gestalt and do something that captures the key elements that have defined the FF over the past nearly 60 years.

Unlike Fox, I think Marvel recognizes they can't just take one goofy element out of one story line and say: "It's 'comic accurate'. We saw in issue XXX that Reed was transformed to a ferret, so the fans can't complain if he's a ferret in this film."

I would prefer a modern FF because, as others have pointed out, they've always been on the cutting edge. But if they decide to do retro, I can see the fun in using Kirby's panels as story-boards with Johnny playing around with real old-time hot-rods, Reed smoking a pipe and wearing a coat and hat, and the retro futuristic Kirby designs with big, bulky cathode ray tube computers and big, bulky tubes, hoses etc. that seemed futuristic in the '60s but would look kind of clunky now.

But at this point I'm willing to sit back and see what they do. Every time a new Marvel film has come out, I've had mixed feelings. I've been thrilled they keep managing, over and over again, to find ways to bring these characters to life so masterfully, but I've been frustrated that they haven't had the chance to work their magic with the one property that I REALLY want to see.

So I'm just looking forward to whatever they come up with.

... and I'm not counting my chickens yet. I've felt this way for the past 8 years as I've hoped and hoped. Now it feels like it might really happen, but I've been disappointed too many times to celebrate prematurely.

Man I hate that Constantin films keeps rearing its ugly head....

Best case scenario is that Disney manages to buy off Constantin's contract and send them on their way as well. Problem solved! But Constantin knows that they'll get way more from Marvel running things than what happened with Fox and as a result will play hardball on a buyout, Forcing Marvel and Disney to just wait out the rest of the 7 year deadline (if that's legally possible).

Another scenario is that F4's status ends up like the Hulk's since I don't see Disney paying over $60B just to still have to split part of F4's box office with Constantin films. That and I'm not sure that the MCU can get away with just doing F4 cameo's and features w/o having to pay Constantin (Basically what they do with Hulk if the terms and conditions allow it).

Worst case scenario is that Constantin threatens to sue Disney for buying Fox and allowing the rights deadline to run out in which Disney will just use the excuse that Fox ruined 4stic so badly that they didn't want to take the risk yet (if this isn't already what's going on).

How can someone be sued for making a business deal? Disney can't be prevented from buying Fox just because Constantin don't like it or because Constantin have a contract with Fox.

If you buy someone else's business (and their clients or any business contracts) then usually a third party isn't going to have any say over that.

Then stop bringing them up.

Constantin films is a non issue. Links to a trade article were posted yesterday showing that the Constantin CEO sold the rights to FOX after the 1994 Corman film was not released in to theaters. If Constantin held the rights, they have transferred them to Disney immediately after the Mouse bought Marvel.

Constantin was not part of the proposed trade of a Daredevil rights extension for Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Constantin was not involved in the trade of Ego for changes to Negasonic Teenage Warhead. In stories from the trades detailing the behind the scenes chaos of FFINO Constantin is never mentioned. They get a production credit and a check. That's it.

FOX currently controls the FF license and that is moving on to Disney/Marvel Studios in the $60B deal that could be announced as early as tomorrow.

Yeah, can we move from this Constantine stuff, please?

Also, can we please get a teaser trailer for the possible announcement tomorrow? :o:oldrazz:

Just a little bit more to go. Within 24 hours we will know for sure..
It's been a long wait, but we've persevered. :D :D :D

Man I hate that Constantin films keeps rearing its ugly head....

The only thing that keeps rearing its ugly head when it comes to Constantin films and the FF rights is misinformation.

Just read what Zarex posted above.

Guess we can close this thread now? Unless we're fighting to get 100% rights to Spider-ma back?

This thread should never close. What's your hurry to shut it down?

This is a legacy thread and should always stay open to discuss IP rights.

Yup, even when they get 100% of the rights for Spider-Man, Namor and Hulk, the thread should continue for 100% getting the rights of DC :woot:

Not trying to be a negative Nancy but legal loop holes when there's 100's of millions (if not billions) on table have taught me different. Plus we're talking about Hollywood.

So like Willie Lumpkin has stated I've waited like 10 years for a real live action F4 film as well but I'm just not ready to put my guard down just yet.

Well last I heard, Hasbro was trying to sue DC over who own's the "Bumblebee" Trademark. Maybe Disney could settle this sooner.

....But then again DC's Bumblebee is too much like Marvle's Wasp.

That's because she's a straight up rip-off, as is Aquaman.

But, you do know the DC to Disney thing was a joke, right?
