See above. Reports are all over the internet that they are going to announce the deal on Thursday. This coming from reputable sources as well, so breath a sigh of relief and rejoice.

We were told it would be announced on Wednesday! Now it's Thursday! Soon enough it's going to be Friday and then next year! They are just dragging us along.

This news just made my day!

Did they say Wednesday previously? The only thing I heard was that an announcement might come some time this week and now it is.

IIRC, one report said it could be announced as soon as Wednesday

I would actually go as far as saying that I think the X-Men franchise will still outlast the current iterations of the MCU and DCU due to it managing a break away from a formula. Marvels way is clearly working but there will be a point in which the general audience get somewhat tired of knowing what is coming next. People typically say that the winter soldier was the best of those films and it is primarily because it broke the mould. Antman/Doctor Strange/Thor have all felt like sub plot movies and it shows in the response after their release. Big numbers up front but the quality arguably wasn’t there.

Wow, could xrs13 have been more wrong when he posted this back in October?

I want to see the last few posts of the original thread when it got shut down.

I would love to read all the FFINO defenders' posts from that time and how they were seeming to gloat back then in their victory.

Here's a post from the start of the reboot thread, but not quite what I'm after:

Jaxxon said:
It's the internet "fans" that caused this. There was so much negativity from announcement, then the vision of a younger cast down the ultimates route etc that Fox execs like any business owners made the decision to cut their losses.

And here's a post by Zarex on the issue of Constantin pictures and whether they'd be any trouble:

Zarex said:
One legendary troll with a history of attempting to pass off nonsense as fact raised the Constantin issue after FFINO began its descent into BO hell. It's a distraction, a non-issue. The production company is an original producer and gets a check and a credit from FOX. They're the Avi Arad or Jon Peters of the FF films.

Look at it this way - if Constantin was the major player, why did Marvel attempt to trade a DD extension for the Surfer and Galactus? According to said troll, the rights for DD and the characters enhanced by the power cosmic were held by two separate companies.

FOX has invested (wasted) hundreds of millions of dollars in their FF films. There's no way they would be spending that cash unless they were in control of the rights. Also, why didn't Disney cut a deal with Constantin when they bought Marvel? According to the troll, the Mouse could have avoided FOX altogether and brought the FF home in 2009 by sweetening the pot.

The Constantin issue is in the same category as the "The MCU has terrible villains! and ""The Trank cut would have been amazing!" arguments. It's lashing out by folks that swore an FF film In Name Only was going to be a huge critical and financial hit.

I'm guessing the person he is referring to is Digificwriter? Is that correct? He would've probably been in here hammering home the issue that Screen Rant raised yesterday about Marvel not getting the FF rights.

Wednesday is probably the day these execs are getting together to sign paperwork, filings, and a host of other paperwork. There are a lot of i's to dot and t's to cross. Paperwork has to turned over to attorney's for review and filed with SEC and DOJ. Much has to get filed before end of year.

They may also be recording a video announcement ala Iger+George Lucas. Things take time. Take this victory lap for what it is. Everything is gravy from here on out. :)

This is the original

The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread

which went on until

http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=492857&page=8

However there was also stuff like

The FFINO ZONE

From during production when the pro and anti sides had to be kept apart :P

Thanks. That last past of the original Keep Hope Alive thread isn't as interesting as I thought it would be. I think by that point all the FFINO defenders weren't posting in there but in the positivity thread or the main news and speculation thread.

Exhibit L. I know I've read that specific statement before along with others.

I don't understand why this Constantin rumor persists despite a deluge of information on the other side.

And this is exactly why they made the Corman film - so they could retain the rights long enough to SELL them, and that's exactly what they did.

And since that time, Fox has obviously and clearly and unambiguously controlled the license. There’s no evidence to the contrary and the obverse would defy common sense.

Fox has invested a lot in the FF and made small profits initially that turned into big losses more recently. And those were all on Fox's balance sheets - not Constantin's.
the rumors exist mainly because Constantin still has at least distribution rights in part of Europe. both the Story movies and the Trank version were distributet by Constantin in Germany and Austria. My DVDs of the Story movies have the Constantin logo featured in HUGE letters all over the covers and the Trank movie DVDs looked the same, as far as I can remember from not buying them.

I still LOL at just reading the name of that thread.

Yeah, I remember one initial report that said 'by the end of the year' then something that said 'possible as early as next week' then one that said 'possibly as early as Wednesday'.

I was planning to come in here on Wednesday (presuming it was unlikely we would have heard anything yet) and act mock-horrified that we didn't have anything yet, but this sort of throws a monkey-wrench in that plan.

... no that I'm complaining.:woot:

Aren't "positivity threads" still a thing in the DCFU subforums?

They are. I just did a search for the Fant4stic one and couldn't find it. Only the BvS ones came up. I want to read the FFINO ones though.

So it seems like Constantin may have limited distribution rights. That makes sense, but doesn't fit the idea that they're calling the shots.

So long as they can't/won't interfere where it really matters, Disney will probably tolerate/accommodate them.

It was a little weird. Wasn't it something like the "Hope" thread got shut down to try to create a positive and negative thread and then when the negative (FFINO) thread took over and was the only one people were posting in, didn't that get shut down for being too negative leading up to the release? I can't remember the exact details at this point.

it might interfere with me being able to get steelbox blu rays, though, since Constantin doesn't do that

Sadly, who knows how much longer we're getting physical media at all :csad:

Which pains me because I like having physical copies.

I believe this is part one of it (there was only 1 and a bit parts unlike the negative threads :hehe:)

The Positive Thread

Archived stuff tends to be hard to search for, I usually do it by doing a search of my name with the results getting listed by the threads if I know that I took part in it.

I still cannot help but smile when thinking about how Fantastic Four might have been the main catalyst that lead to this decision. The volatility of entertainment and the impact of Fanf4stic alone leading to a multi-billion dollar decision to completely exit the entertainment industry because of a film that for all intents and purposes shouldn't have been made was made anyway.
If we are going to consider FFINO, even unofficially, as the force behind this, the we should keep Kinberg away from everything and cancel his upcoming X-Men film... The guy is dangerous. He is a main player in the making of what, in some ways, killed 20th Century Fox. His incompetence crippled an industry giant.

The positive thread got shut down not long after people actually saw the movie, LOL! Once the movie was out and the BO and RT scores came in, everyone jumped ship outside of a small number.

It took a while for me to get used to it, but I'm pretty much all digital now... and it's great.

If I want to watch every Marvel film in order, I can do it without ever leaving my couch.

... as long as I have a bucket and my wife keeps bringing the Doritos. :funny:

I trust having the copy more. Don't have to worry about file corruption, whether something happens to my prime account or wherever I bought it through, etc. Yeah, discs can scratch, but not for someone like me who takes care of them.

I'm not sure if this was the "official" one. I remember creating that because people were complaining that the forum was too negative. So I created that one partly to show how few people there were who really had positive comments... and that thread kept getting buried beneath the sane ones.:woot:

But then I think there was some sort of official creation of binary positive and negative threads after that... but it's all very hazy to me now.
