Frankly I don't see any reason the movie aspect will make the deal difficult to go through approvals. The regional sports networks might be the bigger issue but even that won't hold up much.

 I do like the idea of Seth Rogan. I'm not sure if he looks athletic enough, but he is a big guy... maybe he can do a Chris Pratt-like transformation.:cwink:

I would cast him as The Green....Bee.

I wanna see Annihilus on the big screen. Ever since Annihilation Wave, I've been wanting Annihilus to appear in the MCU.

A Fantastic Four movie not only needs a lot action and great villains, but also lot of heart.

This speech made by Ben in the recent Marvel 2-in-One is how the dynamics of the team should be:

Now that the FF are imminently arriving in the MCU, how long before their own regular comic series starts up again?

I'm assuming we'll have roughly a year of Johnny and Ben looking for Reed and Sue and then a reunion and a revived FF comic book.

... but I also think that's been planned since before the deal was finalized.

It's just far more satisfying now.:woot:

A report from Deadline is suggesting Disney may spin off the 20th Century Fox Studio if that is a sticking point in the deal not closing. I have to think the Mouse would peel off Avatar, Star Wars, X-Men and the FF before letting it go, but it's still all speculation at this point.

They'll definitely excise the parts they want most. The sticking point then becomes what properties they let go with it.

It makes me wonder if making the studio available for sale again would bring Universal back to the table.

Maybe everything except the properties Zarex mentioned.

If these other properties end up being sold to Universal, that means that Paramount would have both the Orville and some of the classic Star Trek series and films.

Maybe Disney will want to keep Peanuts and the Simpsons?

Actually no. Paramount and Universal are separate companies.

To be determined. This is just a potential concession that they could offer to get the deal done.

If they're only taking selected properties, then it's not really owning 20th Century Fox at all. It would be just like if Fox sold them all their Marvel stuff and their Star Wars stuff and just continued. How would Disney have actually acquired Fox?

This is what's confusing to me as well. If they did, they wouldn't even own 20th Century.

I think if it went that way, 20th Century Fox would remain as a studio with their facilities, personnel etc. all there ready to make films, but a lot of their content would be stripped away.

And in some ways, that might be sort of cool. They could start fresh with new stories and maybe provide some unique, creative content as they get back to their roots.

I know I'm about to get shot to shreds by the flak cannons of "That ain't right", but what if the kid that Pietro died saving in AoU is a certain, very young, Victor....

I tried, and still missed his name. But, crackpot theory of the day, under the idea that this has been coming for a long, long, and longer time than we think.

After all, they retconned the kid from IM2 to be Parker...

Just to keep it clear: is there the possibility of Fantastic Four (along with Galactus, Surfer, etc.) and X-Men not going to the MCU??

Only if DOJ completely rejects the deal between Disney and Fox, but I don't see what happening; their lawyers have probably already done their homework before they okay this deal, and I think this approval process is just a formality.

Good to know. Thanks!

I wouldn't stress too much on the Cowen's analyst is saying. I have read different reports saying what could be the triggering point for the DOJ is the RSNs or control of Hulu. Or nothing could trigger it. Trump has already congratulated Murdoch as well.

Bottom line, no one knows.

My personal guess would be, nothing triggers it, DOJ shows concerns but will play ball with maybe some small concessions for divestitures and/or behavior (i.e. x amount of movies in a year, no arm twisting business - cable/ISP providers or theaters - etc), DOJ requires divestiture of RSNs, DOJ requires divestiture of Hulu 30%, DOJ requires divestiture of Fox Films.

I would say almost zero chance of that.

The deal could get scaled back slightly, but that component is completely uncontroversial (it's a license to characters that Disney/Marvel already own), so that part is almost certain to go through even if other concessions are made to satisfy the DOJ.

Yeah. They've already structured this in a way they think will pass (maybe after some hand-wringing on the part of some politicians so they're not viewed as push-overs).

And if there's a problem, there's likely a plan B, plan C etc. that would have even better chances of passing.

This story is just reporting on plan C... which will probably never happen.

It's possible that the merger ends up similar to Ted Turner's purchase of MGM back in the mid eighties. Ted paid $1.7B (including debt) for the famed studio and sold off everything but the library less than a year later. This lowered the purchase to about $1.2B, which was necessary due to the deal being financed with junk bonds.

Disney won't be under the same financial pressure to strip away and sell off assets, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Mouse spins off assets they were going to move anyway - investments in A&E Networks and Vice, Blue Sky Studios, and perhaps a good chunk of 20th Century Fox Studio - so the pols can tell their financial backers that they won.

Yeah, Disney certainly doesn't have any need for the hard studio assets since they have their own. If they get the whole package, they'll likely sell off the studio assets one way or another and it probably has more value as a working studio than broken up as land, lights, cameras office furniture etc. - if they can find a buyer interested in keeping it running.

And the only reason the studio is included in the deal is that's probably a condition Fox wanted. They want to make one big deal and get rid of everything rather than trying to find a separate buyer for the studio, so they'd rather let Disney deal with that as long as the DOJ approves.

Disney can get into the furniture business. They can set up their own version of Ikea. Or maybe the camera business. We'll see Mickey Mouse cameras alongside Nikon, Canon, Olympus etc.
