DOJ approval is one step. The shareholders also still have to vote on the bid. It's still going to take a while.
There are other regulatory hurdles internationally as well, but this was the big one.

The shareholders were going to vote on July 10, but that was indefinitely postponed. The 21st Century Fox board REALLY needs to reschedule it for soon, now that the DOJ says "You may merge with Disney on the condition of divesting the RSNs."

A Federal judge also has to approve of the settlement between the DOJ and Disney (with Disney selling off the RSN's).

As a matter of procedure, the DOJ had to file suit against Disney to block the sale of the RSN's.

So Comcast is deciding whether to team with private equity investors now? They are so desperate.
I think when Fox's board came out and said that any tie up with Comcast was in danger of being blocked, that was their way of telling them "We are done here".

Granted, if Comcast comes back with yet another bid (even with help), they will probably make the same argument.

Interesting, thanks.

Silver Surfer and The Thing are the next 2 exclusives, but I am not sure if they are available stateside. Reed, Sue, and Johnny are available now, though. Reed was by far the hardest for me to find.

I went by my local Walgreens....they didn't have any of them. If they do get them I'll let you know.

Disney Wins DOJ Approval Of The Fox assets.

Disney’s statement per the Wrap:

“We are pleased that the DOJ concluded that, with the exception of the proposed acquisition of the Fox Sports Regional Networks, the transaction will not harm competition, and that we were able to resolve the limited potential concerns to position us to move forward with this exciting opportunity that will enable us to create even more compelling consumer experiences,” the company said in a statement.”

This basically sets the deal in stone. I doubt Comcast can do anything at this point.
They can try to take an offer directly to the shareholders. At this point, I don't see that succeeding.

IMO, it's over. Disney wins.

A little premature (process-wise)but..... Welcome home Fantastic Four. :ilv:

At this point, Disney should just let Comcast have Sky so they can wrap this up.

I want news that Brian is gracious in conceding defeat. Probably won't happen though. I anticipate Comcast will still throw a spanner in the works.

Yeah, same here. Sorry Spider-Fan, but nothing so far. I do have a couple more I can check on my way home, but the one I just went to is the biggest one I know of.

This is a FANTASTIC (You see what I did there?) outcome for Marvel fans, but Kabletown made out pretty well also assuming the bidding war ends here. If Roberts can come out of this with Sky & some RSNs without adding a huge pile of debt that should go into the win column.

Judging by their (in)action, they could appear to be doing just that. The bigger issue is what Comcast is creating for itself now. Like Dollar said:

Hedge funds push regulator to set higher Sky price
Investors seek revised valuation to reflect Disney’s move to outbid Comcast

Comcast may have to pay more for Sky as the higher Disney bid implies a higher valuation for the 39% of Sky and - therefore - the whole. If Comcast bids higher for FOX (let's say an insane 90B), that means Sky's price will also go up accordingly.
The more the push this up, the more out of reach it could become for themselves.

It's been a news drought since the last bit of news earlier that Disney won DOJ approval. We need something new!

Divestment of RSNs is kind of a big deal. I'm sure the only reason Disney is not fighting it is because of the pressure from Comcast.

It would make sense for them to buy FloSports to make up the loss of the RSNs and complement ESPN+. It would be a lot smaller, but a lot cheaper with tons of niche content.

What if Brian Roberts is rubbing his hands gleefully at the latest DOJ approval news, thinking to himself:

Welp.

I gotta find something to wear for the eventual Black Panther & Storm live action wedding. Y'all kids be good.

It would funny if Comcast ultimately plays itself when the dust settles. Them desperately pursuing a losing battle may cost them in the end

Yeah, where T'Challa walks Storm down the aisle maybe. If they make her a teenager around the same age as Shuri, then I don't see that happening.
