DOJ near approving Disney bid for 21st Century Fox assets, Bloomberg saysThe Justice Department could clear Disney's (DIS) bid for Fox (FOXA) assets in as soon as the next two weeks, which would boost the company in its fight with Comcast (CMCSA) for the assets, according to Bloomberg.

And more from Bloomberg:

*Walt Disney Co.*is close to winning U.S. antitrust approval for its $71 billion deal for*21st Century Fox Inc.’s*entertainment assets, according to a person familiar with the matter, creating a potentially insurmountable hurdle for a rival bid from*Comcast Corp.
The*Justice Department*is set to approve the deal in as soon as two weeks, said the person, who declined to be named because the investigation is confidential. Disney has agreed to sell some assets to address competition problems stemming from the tie-up, according to the person.

Is Brian Roberts really that off his rocker to risk his job over this?

Just take the loss, man.
Roberts technically can’t be fired since he owns Comcast but man this has got to be pissing off his investors mightily. Quite a few them are proabably pulling their hair out in frustration over Roberts shenanigans, lol.

Comcast Is Said to Plan $41/Share Fox Counterbid: Fox Business

Well if he wants to continue owning a major corporation, he’d be wise to walk away from this

So Comcast is matching or exceeding Disney’s offer by a considerable amount?

Because if it ain’t the latter....

Winning DOJ approval doesn’t mean they’ll win the race but it would be a major obstacle out of the way and a significant advantage over Comcast

If this is true, it's huge. Even if Comcast goes higher, a lot of shareholders will likely prefer a lower bid that's nearly ready to close. Comcast could go to $75 billion and nobody would care.

Comcast would have to go higher by the amount that shareholders value the security of the Disney bid based on this extra information, as well as the break up fee, and that just to match.

That's staggering. They've been talking about summer 2019, after Avengers 4 hits theaters.
The Russos could actually film a 30-second tie-in at the end of August.

The pressure's really on Comcast now to not just respond, but to respond big and to respond soon.

If Comcast hasn't at least indicated an intention to bid again by this weekend, I think people will just start moving forward with the idea that it will be Disney.

And if that path seems clear and easy, Comcast will have a lot of trouble derailing that freight-train.

Well, they always said 12 to 18 months, and 12 would be when?

Are we sure, if that fabled phone call is made in late November-early Dismember, that we might not have our first easter eggs and end credits faster than light travels? Like, A4, or even CM?

They want that 60th anniversary for FF...

Wait, I thought it was meant to close next year?!?

Me too. Could it be a side effect of the AT&T/Time Warner ruling?

It still might be a while before it closes. We still need Fox and Disney shareholders to vote for one thing, and then there will be many more administrative details to tend to.

But DOJ approval would be huge, and would also give Fox and Disney motivation to speed up their votes and finish this (while Comcast is still trying to figure out creative ways to convince Fox shareholders they don't really want a quick, clean deal).

I put earlier in the thread that Comcast are expected to bid $41 (although this is from Fox Business):

Comcast to raise Fox assets offer to $41 per share, Fox Business reportsComcast (CMCSA) plans to counter Disney's (DIS) increased offer to acquire assets of 21st Century Fox (FOXA) with an offer of $41 per share in cash and stock, Fox Business' Susan Li reports.

For the whole deal to conclude? Yeah, there are plenty of administrative things that need to be done even if everything else goes to plan. It will still be a good while before the whole thing is over whatever happens.

Teases I absolutely DO NOT want if Avengers 4 is still re-shooting when the rest of Marvel content becomes legal:
The Fantastic 4. Those characters should be cast by the eventual director.
Klunky fanservice about young teenagers starting to manifest superpowers.

Acceptable: Kang scanning the past for temporal anomalies and getting the events of the film.
A white-haired Al Pacino in a suit and purple cape saying hi to Wanda.
