There are millions of children around the world who have to deal with watching white people (usually straight) onscreen and feel alienated because Hollywood decided to prioritize a race that did not deserve special treatment and abandon the other. These characters were created in a time where nearly every single comic book character was white because they didnt want to offend the south, among other reasons. Nothing changes about the 4 if Sue was black or if Ben was a Muslim. Either you need to stop using the reflecting the source material excuse or accept you need to grow up and realize America doesnt look like it did 50 years ago.
Sprayberry actually is a good choice for Johnny imo. Alden would make a better Logan
And vice-versa with me growing up black (half black, half asian) in America. It never stopped me from relating to Peter Parker or Scott Summers or any other because their skin color was different from mine. I understand the need for more representation - and I think the MCU X-Men really should represent this but I don't see the need for race swaps on the F4. Just do them faithfully. Those kids will just have to DEAL with it. Plain and simple. Being white has never stopped me from liking john stewart or blade or black panther. The opinion that people cant relate to superheroes if they dont share their skin color is just silly and desperately looking for something to be offended by.
I never understood the "best actor" for the part argument. The best actor would be white because the "best actor" would check off all of the boxes.
But no one's going to tick off all those boxes because A) We're talking about real people portraying cartoon characters and B) Long time characters have had dozens of artists and look differently depending on who is pencilling and coloring the pages.
For example, my favorite for Ben Grimm is Terry Crews, who has expressed interest in the role. He's a bit older than most folks would prefer and a smidge darker. But he has the heart, the humor, the physicality and the big personality, which I think is going to be the hardest part of casting Ben.
I definitely agree skin tone should be a consideration, but not the only one.
Crews then becomes another black actor who ends up with the heavy make-up or vfx role. It's sorta like that redhead conspiracy. For example, my favorite for Ben Grimm is Terry Crews, who has expressed interest in the role. I agree I like Crews, but I don't know if you want give more clout to that theory. It's already happened to Ray Fisher, Zoe Saldana, and Djimon Honsou.Crews then becomes another black actor who ends up with the heavy make-up or vfx role. It's sorta like that redhead conspiracy.
Is Terry Crews going to have blue eyes if he plays the Thing? Because he's so often referred to as the ever-loving blue-eyed Thing. You can't change that.
Years ago, Tom Hanks wouldve been the ideal Reed but that ship has obviously sailed(hes too old).
In the early 2000s, George Clooney wouldve also been a good pick: Hes shown he can easily nail the confident leader qualities(Ocean 11) and hes played more darker, obsessive characters before. Also folks see the Descendants he can also portray the patriarch quite well.
I actually see the point with Alden. I'm just trying to skew young. Maybe Richard Madden or Sam Claflin? I don't know.
Contact lenses. That'd literally be the cheapest special effect in the budget.
I think it's important to keep the character's religion and eye color, but that's no reason to narrow the actors you audition.
Because it would suck to wait nearly 5 years after the deal is finalized to see the F4 in the MCU. 2022 is the latest they'd have to make the movie. If its done by December - Marvel could immediately begin development on a F4 film and make a 2021 release.
Besides that fact, they can and should introduce these characters in another character's film first. The F4 brand is highly toxic right now and the best way to rejuvenate the franchise is through the MCU brand.
November 2021... the 60th anniversary...
They've been telegraphing their intent for a while at Marvel Studios...
That's not the point. I'm not talking about how they would do it. I'm talking about whether they're going to have a black guy with blue eyes, because that would look extremely unusual.
Claflin as Reed![]()
Yes, yes, no, yes.Sam Claflin, Jake Johnson, a blonde actress born in 1996, and Dylan Sprayberry?
