They should give Brad Bird a crack at the Fantastic 4.

The Incredibles is pretty much the same formula and he just recently proved he can do the action bit too with Mission Impossible.

He's on my FF director shortlist :yay:.

Fantastic Four:
- Brad Bird
- Paul King
- Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris
- Jon Favreau

X-Men:
- Joe & Anthony Russo
- Patrick Brice
- Alfonso Cuarón

Chronicle wasn’t really an indie picture, though. It was a mid-budget superhero film that did cost more than most Indie films. Something like ‘Cop Car’ directed by Jon Watts or Coogler’s ‘Fruitvale Station’ fits along those lines of what I consider an Indie film.

Bah. Semantics ;)

Btw I'm just busting your chops.

I just keep thinking about how the Russos went from directing the aggressively awful "You, Me, and Dupree" to directing arguably 3 of the best superhero movies of all time. It's just mind-boggling. Because of that, I'll be keeping an open mind no matter who eventually gets tapped to direct the MCU FF

Good choices. If the Russos took X-Men (and there were some rumblings that the rights coming back played a part in their interest in returning to the MCU), then I would suddenly feel a lot happier about the project, and at least the worst case scenario would be a lot higher than otherwise.

Brad Bird seems like a no-brainer, but I would have chosen him if Incredibles 2 was never released. The FF need to get away from comparisons to that franchise and Bird as director would make it feel too similar to the Incredibles

I also think he's done telling that type of story. I want someone a bit out of the box and not thought of before.

Yeah, it’s partly because Marvel already has a vision for where they want to go. A recent example is with Black Panther. When Marvel came to Coogler they already had general idea of Black Panther which was pitched to Coogler as a sort of the MCU’s verison of “James Bond” which was a vision that Coogler gladly went along with. That’s not to say they don’t let directors put their creative stamps since they only have the basic idea to which they allow talented directors like Coogler to flesh them out and build upon with his own ideas — it’s the perfect collaborative environment that no studio has come close to emulating.

By the time Marvel is talking to the future Fantastic Four director they would’ve already figured out what the general direction the MCU FF will be.

Zack Snyder's Fantastic Four.

Christopher McQuarrie for X-Men. Also Tim Miller.

Ideally I'd love Edgar Wright for FF, but alas.

I still believe Josh Trank could have directed a great Fantastic Four film for Marvel. They would have given him a much better script and better production design. They wouldn't have let him go so far off-course.

Josh Trank came in with a bad idea, and Fox let him run with it. As long as he would have been willing to make the film Marvel would have wanted, I think he could have made a good film.

I still blame Kinberg more than Trank and that's why I feel nearly certain that Trank's Al Capone film will be way better than Dark Phoenix.

The Russos most definitely should handle X-Men. They handle the ensemble cast dynamic very well.

Infinity War everyone really had a chance to shine. I didn't see where it was completely GOTG heavy like some were saying but everyone had a decent amount of action. That's exactly what the X-Men need.

I have a hard time imagining someone for the X-Men because I feel like the director needs to be able to tap into the core themes about bigotry and discrimination. That's why I felt like Bryan Singer was the perfect choice back in the day because as a gay man, he knew first hand what that experience was like and that helped a lot.

The Russos so far are my favorite choice because TWS and CW give me faith that they would do the X-Men justice.

Considering their track-record, I trust Marvel to pick the right guy, even if it seems a head-scratcher at first.

If they hire Simon Kinberg, I'm out, but I'm with them on just about anybody else.

...oh, and Scott Buck too, Dark Raven.:oldrazz:

Hope we get viral marketing like this once they get X-Men:

How about Kelly Fremon Craig (Edge of Seventeen) or Stephen Chbosky (Perks of Being a Wallflower)

I'd like Favreau to get a crack at either FF or X-Men.

Pretty much the entire MCU is due to his Iron Man movie kicking it all off being so successful.

It would be a good way to kick off a new era of the MCU, while instilling some confidence with someone that already successfully kicked off the first era.

I remember those. :csad: I think from God Loves, Man Kills? Or Days of Future Past? But yeah, the viral marketing could definitely play into the rise of mutants and the mass hysteria that emanates from it.

Maybe Marvel could use that WWHI news thing to track the number of mutants appearing around the globe

More like Liemon Kinberg and Scott Suck amirite!?

Apologies. My inner 12 year old just has to come out sometimes.

Viral marketing is a Fox thing...

John Krasinski's X-Men, starring John Krasinski as Professor Xavier, who's an awesome man. The students are supporting characters.
Joss Whedon's X-Men. Very similar to the comics. Female mutants are so oppressed they're actually barefoot.
Quentin Tarantino's X-Men. He leverages the R-rating to explore the limits of bigotry. Female mutants are still barefoot.

I think Stephen Chbosky would be best choice. See how he handled Patrick (the gay character) or Kelly Fremon Craig from EOS. She did a great job with that film.

How about Ava Duvernay? AWIT wasn't the best but she directed Selma and she was very close to signing on to Black Panther, so she's definitely on Feige's radar.

I thino Whedon should produce. His Astonishing X-Men run was amazing

James Gunn has been fired as director of Guardians 3.

OMG.
