Aww Man

Just found out bout James Gunn. Work has already begun and they were bout to start filming in a few months. That film will still be Gunn's baby. But this sucks for the cosmic future.

Clearly you haven't watched all Waititi's films..

This is true. I've only seen What We Do In The Shadows and Thor 3. All I know that when it came to doing serious, poignant moments in Thor 3 he failed rather badly. He nailed the comedy, visuals and action though.

I recommend you check out Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Yeah and even what we do in the shadows had some poignant moments.

I wonder who fired the bullet with Gunn? Disney or marvel or both? And if it wasn’t marvel I wonder how they feel about the whole thing

Alan Horn. Kevin Feige's boss.

This whole ordeal just makes me wonder... when the hell is Bryan Singer going to get his just desserts??

Gunn is totally an idiot for those tweets, but dammit Singer has been caught on camera and there's so many stories floating around about him and underage boys! Yet he just continues to fly under the radar.

Ugh.

I guess he was kind of dropped from the xmen a while a go so he can’t get fired from that.

But yeah Singer needs to cop it

Singer was charged with raping a teenager yet he still got to do Apocalypse and Gifted. What Gunn did was stupid but he’s apologized for them many times and has clearly changed, which reflects his current work.

Thank you.

But we're deprived of a GOTG3 and cosmic MCU stories from this man, all because he said some stupid shxt years ago. But Singer can go to the Junior High Prom and turn Apocalypse into Goldust from WWF.

Double ugh.

This is shocking news. I thought at first it was a joke when i saw it. It came out of the blue when we were just talking about Gunn as a potential director for FF earlier today.

Disney were probably under the gun to fire him. But they surely knew about these Tweets themselves all this time.

He shouldn't have written what he wrote, but then he should've at least deleted them years ago when he became more of a public figure with GOTG. Becoming famous like that will bring you under more scrutiny. If you're in the public eye, don't say anything controversial, especially on social media.

It would've been worse if it were Kevin Fiege.

Now has Simon Kinberg said anything controversial in the past so that Dark Phoenix might get pulled too?

Kinberg said FantFourstic would be great. Is that enough?

Singer was fired from that Freddie Mercuary biopic a while back. While Fox never clarified why he was fired I think it’s safe to assume it had something to do with the allegations.
Here’s what X-Men producer Laura Schuler Donnor had to say about Singer quite recently after it was reported that Singer asked to remove his name from both Legion and Gifted.

”Listen, I love Bryan, but Bryan has a lot of demons. Bryan has some problems, and Bryan needs to take care of his personal problems. That’s all I can say.”

I wouldn't want Waititi to direct GOTG3, he would turn it into plain comedy. There's humor too in the two previous movies, that's true, but there are also actual serious moments and situations, something that I never saw in Ragnarok (which is supposed to be the most important and impactful Asgardian event.).

Brian Singer just needs to say something against Trump, Trump supporters will do the rest.

The digging up of Gunn's past tweets probably had more to do with the way he was being combative with Star Wars fans.

Imagine if this were the smoking gun that brought down Disney at the last minute in this Fox deal. There's always a twist in the tale. They had to get rid of Gunn as soon as possible so as not to have their name dragged through the mud.

Honestly, I can see that. Keeping someone around who was speaking about things that well, didn't quite align with Disney's brand..., probably would have given some investors pause to become entangled with.

I'm still completely shocked by the news...

Just imagine if they fired Feige over something like this then that would be really catastrophic to the MCU.

From set reports I read when Singer was fired, it was his erratic behavior, frequent absences and abuse of the cast, rather than the sexual assault allegations, that caused the producers to fire him. He allegedly fought with Remi Malek and even became violent at one point, throwing things at the star in front of others. Another cast member actually quit in the middle of production but was convinced to finish the film. Singer also refused to show up for days at a time, which caused filming to shut down. The cinematographer had to step in to direct during Singer's absences.

Singer had been warned by the studio president that unprofessionalism wouldn't be tolerated, but he promptly defied her by acting out on set. It was a situation where the studio had put up with bad behavior by the director literally for decades before finally deciding that they had had enough. It's a sad testament to the morals of those involved that Singer was allowed to continue with his career after credible allegations of sexual assault were leveled against him, however. He would still be working today, rape allegations notwithstanding, if he hadn't acted out on the set of a film.

Still in disbelief at the one-two punch of bad news today. Hopefully some of you know what I'm talking about.

The question I'll pose is this: is the writing already on the wall for Marvel Studios' first failure with this? Or will they be able to course correct? Or- and I do hope this isn't the conclusion they come to- should GOTG3 be cancelled to avoid the potential risk of damaging the brand?

All of that is possible. They'll likely course correct and then quickly put the film behind them. Feige always has back-up plans, so he's probably reshuffling the MCU deck as we speak.
