Is it too early to begin a Fantastic 4 thread? Take all the posts etc and transfer them over???

This thread is about more than the F4. It shouldn't be moved under any single franchise.

It would have been hard to believe a year ago that this would be my biggest concern regarding rights, but I'm starting to get nervous about the BS Sony is trying to pull.

The idea of Venom without Spidey is screwy enough, but now Kraven? I've been sort of looking forward to/hoping for Kraven as a Spidey villain at some point, but it looks like Sony might crap all over him before that can even happen.

And what's really making me nervous is I think Venom might do reasonably well. I think non-comic book fans might think it looks cool and make it profitable.

I showed the trailer to my wife (who has trouble remembering that Superman and Spider-Man aren't in the same universe) last night and told her "I want you to just check this out and give me your honest opinion"...

... She says it looks pretty cool and she wants to see it. :wall:

Bloomberg:

(Disney)

tried to buy back TV rights to “Star Wars’’ movies from*AT&T Inc.’s Turner Broadcasting so that it can offer them on a new streaming video service, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Disney made a preliminary inquiry about regaining the rights, but met resistance, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks were private. Turner has the rights to show the films on its cable networks, which include TNT and TBS, and online until 2024. The programmer wanted financial considerations and programming to replace the lost films, one person said. The talks haven’t advanced further.

:wow: I didn't even know AT&T/Turner had them. I knew there was some TV show in the works, but I thought that was Disney.

Do they at least have some partial control?

Disney should offer them the rights to Starsky and Hutch and some other classic ABC shows. That actually might be sort of cool (if they did it right).

Yeah, quite interesting.

I don't know anything about this side of it though.

I don't think the article is referring to tv shows though but specifically for movies.

Okay, wait. I was just doing some research. I thought it meant the rights to new TV content, but apparently it's the TV rights to show the movies? Right?

 Yeah, after some confusion with the first few articles I read discussing Jon Favreu's series for the streaming service, I started to realize it was the film rights.

The series is much more interesting to me (and I suspect many viewers). I already own all the films on Vudu.

It makes you wonder what the lineup for the MCU Sinister Six will be

Sony is certainly acting like the Spidey deal will be a relatively short one. I could see an extension to finish the trilogy, but I doubt the MCU is getting to S6.

Assuming a 3rd movie gets negotiated, the S6 will be what the 3rd movie is about. I would bet all my money on it.

Well you already got Scorpion, one of the Chameleons, the Vulture if he backslides, all that’s left is Doc Ock, Electro and Sandman to complete Voltron.

If Sony tries to do a solo Doc Ock movie I’m gonna scream.

I can see them replacing Tinkerer for Ock.

We all have our favorites Willie, but in the end true fans like us care about the entire Marvel pantheon. If not all, then the vast majority. Most of them are great characters and we want them all done justice.

I think Spidey and his related characters is going to be what keeps us worried going forward.
I might be freaking out at the eminent evisceration of Jean/Phoenix next Feb. But at least there is still hope it will be shelfed. And even if it isn't, they won't be able to mess with my mutants for much longer, the morons that have been disrespecting them for far too long.
Hulk and Namor are being held hostage by Comcast/Universal, but at least they're not allowed to make horrible films to inflict them on us and the unsuspecting public.... But Sony, they're a big problem.
Times like these I wish Thanos' snap were able to affect the entire multiverse and cross over into our reality, erasing several problem children :woot::o

Well if they do bring Spider-Man back, and they have the right creative people on it, they could potentially build something cool - even though it might drive us crazy to have a taste of Spidey in the MCU only to get him yanked.

But even though the potential is there, they seem to be half-assing it at the moment, so I don't have a lot of confidence they'll really do it right. They might limp along with something that makes enough money to keep it going and that's a scary possibility.

I think this is the next domino to fall - hopefully soon.

Then we and Marvel can put all of our focus on Sony and Spidey.

Is there a good list anywhere of all the Spidey related characters that Sony controls?

I'm curious what they actually have (or don't have) to work with.

This actually shows Disney is interested in buying rights for the streaming service. Have they reached out to Paramount yet to get those pesky rights (Indy first 4/future participation, Titanic domestic, Terminator reboot domestic)?

Probably reached out to Sony and Universal regarding those Marvel contracts as well.

I have the full list, I'll post it later.

Sony's been wanting that Sinister Six for forever and just wanted to jump into that ****. Lest we all forget the ill-fated Sinister Six film. Thing is Marvel Studios' 1st solo Spidey effort already has begun seeding it, the right way.

 Thanks. I've never really thought much about it, but with X-Men and FF coming home, Sony will be the one with the big remaining rights package, and I'm really curious who is included.
