oof. Looks like Dark Phoenix had some test screenings recently. Yea disney needs to shelve this.

So Mystique is the one that’s going to die?

Is it too late to sell it to Netflix?

So, how much more money will Fox throw at Dark Phoenix for reshoots?

So Mystique is the one that’s going to die?
Yes. Jean kills her by accident which causes a schism between between Beast and Xavier because of the questionable way Xavier has handled the Jean Grey situation. Beast blames Xavier partly for her death and joins Magneto’s group to aid him in killing Jean.

So one of the guys that was in charge of Fantfourstic... directs a movie as bad as Fantfourstic- what a shock! Yeah, this thing belongs in the dollar bin. Actually, no- the dollar bin is too good for this dumpster fire.

Makes you wonder if that "theres still hope" tweet isnt a refrence to whats going on behind the scenes. In an effort to calm nervous fans.

Well that explains the scene in the trailer with Beast and Xavier sitting at the table and Charles breaking the glass. It also confirms who the funeral is for all tho I think most of us figured it out.

Fox-Men 2000-2019.

Honestly it makes perfect sense to shelf this damn thing and New Mutants. Release it later on Disney+ as a Marvel Legacy (i.e. Non MCU) title. Disney has written off tens and hundreds of millions of dollars before (they just wrote off 157MM on Vice this past quarter). They have also written off over 100MM for Gigantic and other movies IIRC. Dark Phoenix would bomb. It is releasing on a packed schedule as well. Releasing this movie will do long term damage to the brand and it'll do nothing but make the Dark Phoenix saga a further out possibility in the MCU.

The last ensemble X-Men movie was in 2016 and it sucked. The two that came after that were Logan and Deadpool, well received and liked movies. Let Apocalypse be the last ensemble Fox X-Men movie and by the time they are ready to release a new one in the MCU in 2021, 2022 or so it'll have been 5 or 6+ years since the last Fox one and people will be hungry for a new one. Same thing as the Fantastic Four with the last turd coming out in 2015 with a new FF in 2021, 2022 or later it'll have been long enough to wipe the stench off the last one.

Writing off the 200MM or whatever on Dark Phoenix and New Mutants is, undoubtedly, the best long term bet for Disney.

Can we start calling it Dark Phoenix in Name Only?

I can imagine how many lines Alexandra Shipp has in that travesty. I can’t wait for her and Tye Sheridan to go away.

Fingers crossed the deal closes at the end of the month and we can move on from ever needing to speak of Dark Phoenix or New Mutants. Feel bad for the cast and crew but thats as far as my sympathy goes. For the sake of the X-Men as a brand these movies should not be released maybe a year and half from now they can dump them on Disney+

I’m gonna give Dark Phoenix a chance but reading all of this isn’t surprising when you consider all that has led up to this point with the behind the scenes trouble during production and post.

At this point I really just wanna get past it.

Is "Dark Phoenix" Kinberg's sequel to last years movie, "Love, Simon"? :o

This is what baffles me. With the troubles they had with Josh Trank, Simon Kinberg was the key, creative driving force behind Fant4stic. And he thought it was good right up until the end. If he made that and thought it was good, why would anybody think he could make a good film and hand him the keys to the X-Men?

I don't need advance screenings or the obvious problems (that have delayed and delayed the project) to make any presumptions about this film. I knew from the moment they allowed Kinberg to make this it would be bad.

I see what you're saying, and agree to a point. But someone can be more right for one property over another. So you can have someone who maybe is a poor fit for FF that is a proper one for X-Men or vice versa. I had little faith in Kinberg directing this based on his experience level as a director and given his history as being part of some bad entries in this very series (though he helped with good ones also), but less so for Fan4stic. That movie was awful, but again that can just mean his sensibilities were wrong for that particular property.

I was shocked to discover Simon Kinberg was a producer on Cinderella. Maybe he was really an executive producer and Disney just let him say that he was a producer out of charity, because that film was too good for his talents. There were a couple of other producers anyway.

I don't expect Disney will be tossing a lot of work his way. I know he expects to be filming the sequel to Dark Phoenix and maybe Fant4t2stic, and perhaps other Fox X-Men spin-offs. Maybe Disney will do a Truman Show-style trick on him where they keep him in his own little world where he thinks Fox are still moving forward with all the projects and there is no Disney-Fox deal.

You're too kind. Keep Kinberg and Singer AWAY from MCU X-Men and Fantastic Four.

If anything give them Inhumans or Howard The Duck.

ETA: Give Singer nothing, I keep forgetting he's a pedophile.

I agree, and with the template and cast he has for Dark Phoenix, that alone should give him an advantage over Fant4stic.

... but the Dark Phoenix story is also a high-flying, grand, epic story and hearing him talk about how "grounded" he wants to make it makes me feel that he's making similar mistakes with similar projects.

Dark Phoenix probably won't be as bad as Fant4stic (that would be a very tough task), but based on everything I've heard him say over the past several years, I have zero confidence in his ability to understand and tell a proper story. I actually think some of the better elements of Fant4stic may have come from Trank (Chronicle was a pretty good film) and the worst ones may have come from Kinberg.

With all that considered, My prediction is DP will be a little better than Fant4stic, but, by far, worse than any other X film.

Oh, I agree he is a poor fit for this story. But maybe a character more actually grounded he could maybe do something good with. Who knows? But yeah, he was a poor choice for this project.

The Inhumans deserve better. They don’t need to be butchered a second time.

I think the best we can expect for them to ever be mentioned in the MCU again would be some kind of graphic that says "The Inhumans left Earth and died on their way to their home planet."
