I do feel a bit bad for them though. For the people just doing their job. It does paint a dire picture at the environment at Fox as the deal reaches the finish line. Executives not showing up or being hired by other companies. Temps coming in to cover the last few days of operation etc

''Nobody has come around and said, 'This is what’s going on.' Why can’t they just tell us that there is no place for us? Why can’t they let anyone know?" "We are not leaving because we didn’t make money for the company or we did a bad job. We are leaving because of pure capitalism."

He's not wrong...for the most part. I hope the people who will be laid off will find jobs elsewhere. Very sorry that they're losing their jobs.

I don't want to make it a race thing, but since we're living in the "woke" era, let me just be real and tell you guys that this is a textbook example of white privilege. If you act like you didn't know what it was before, James Gunn getting rehired by Disney is a prime example. Powerful white man has a scandal, powerful white man gets a slap on the wrist and his job back.

Let's just say if this was Ryan Coogler who made these tweets about urinating on little kids and doing all that nasty stuff, you can bet your ass they'd never rehire him. Quentin Tarantino probably would've been directing Black Panther 2.

I'll give Disney one thing, they know how to keep us talking. Never a dull moment in the MCU.

I don't buy your premise for a second that Ryan Coogler would have stayed fired had he made the same tweets and took full responsibility and owned up to his mistakes without burning bridges the way Gunn did. In fact I doubt very much they would have fired their only minority director who just had just directed a movie that grossed 1.3 billion dollars. The mainstream media outrage would have been through the roof pressuring Disney to take him back. I can see the headlines "Alt-Righ racist trolls use 7 year old tweets to get Marvel's only minority director fired!"

Even if they had fired him I have zero doubt they would have re-hired him(assuming he took the same high road route that Gunn did)

I'm personally quite pleased that outrage culture took a big "L" on this one.

"Nobody has come around and said, 'This is what’s going on.' Why can’t they just tell us that there is no place for us? Why can’t they let anyone know?

Because they legally can't until closing is official. Kinberg is correct about this later in the article.

Simon Kinberg said:
But we haven’t had formal talks because until the merger is official, they’re not allowed to have those kinds of conversations with the folks at Fox or myself,

Fox's X-Men films don't matter because they just don't. Feige has his own idea of how the X-Men will fit into the MCU and he's got no real need for Fox's stuff.

So it's okay to give this man all this money to direct/write a movie to fund his pedophiliac fantasies all because we want a sequel?

We might as well let Bryan Singer come back and do MCU X-Men while we're at it.

I'm just not with it guys, I don't care how you justify it. But that's just me.

James Gunn made stupid jokes about the subject ten years ago on twitter. Singer is accused of actual sexual abuse of minors. Big difference.

The movie feels like a lame duck now that we know the property is going to get rebooted.

and black privilege doesn't exist or "woke" privilege? Look at Jussy Smollett, he tries to start a race war, and all the "woke" people out there are either quiet or defending him, plus he still has a job.

Smollett is in prison. And nobody defended him once the truth came out, not that I saw anyway.

Hey, @Zyraquis I just came across this article from Chile that came out days after Disney/Fox said they expect to complete their merger on March 20. They say that their still no decision yet from FNE and they are still deciding, You said that Disney will not make a close date until they obtain all regulatory approval, but this is weird that they still possibly need Chile. Maybe it's possible Chile gave their approval but it is not online yet. That seems weird.

I agree with everything you said, but Gunn was unfairly fired and I'm glad he's back. Decade old jokes shouldn't be a strong enough reason for anyone to get fired. Since he never indulged in it and apologized without making any excuses for his actions, he deserves to have his job back.

Police arrested him, same police that "woke" people hate on. Terrance Howard defended him, as did others. Didn't he return to work? I know they didn't kick him off the show, just cut him out from scenes.

Who, exactly turned on him? Has Ellen Page who was practically crying a talk show, said anything about the hoax?
Last I heard Kamala Harris didn't even know what she said when the truth came out.

Bottom line, what Smollet did was far worse a crime than a decade old joke on social media, and he still has a job. So nobody better start with this James Gunn white privilege B.S.

Okay I’ll let him rock.

Hope the world just isn’t surprised if something else crazy comes out about him.

I'm not surprised if something crazy comes out about anybody. I don't know these people. But we shouldn't punish people preemptively. As far as I know there haven't been any really serious or criminal allegations made against Gunn. If a victim comes forward and accuses him of abuse, that's entirely different.

If his cast or crew turned on Gunn, as they did with Roseanne, I wouldn't have had a problem with Disney deciding to move on. But there's zero evidence anyone, including those who brought their children to work, had any concern with the director's behavior either on or off the set. By all indications he's a harmless goof with an odd sense of humor.

This is a completely different situation than the one with Singer, who has been putting boys into compromising positions on set for over two frikkin' decades. I have zero problem with holding people in positions of power to a very high standard of conduct, but expecting creatives to be completely pure of thought is a smidge ridiculous.
